RESUMO

University students are at high risk of sexually transmitted infections due to the lack of adequate sexual education, as well as multiple associated factors, which lead to risky sexual practices. It is important to update data about sexual behaviors to identify the main factors associated with sexually risky behaviors. The present study aimed to evaluate the current prevalence of sexually risky practices in medical students. A cross-sectional study was conducted among medical students through an anonymous self-administered online questionnaire including demographic characteristics and sexual behaviors. We used descriptive statistics and multivariable regression to analyze the data collected. A total of 1520 undergraduate medical students aged between 18 and 28 years old were included in the study. Sixty percent of the students were sexually active with a higher proportion in men (70%), likewise, they had an earlier sexual debut (16.5 vs 16.9 years old), and a greater number of lifetime sexual partners than women (3.8 vs 2.2). The main sexual activity in both groups was vaginal sex with high use of condoms (75%), however, most of them (67%) reported having unprotected oral sex. Logistic regression analysis showed that condomless sex was associated with having oral sex, anal sex, and being female. The findings of this study showed that medical university students are involved in risky sexual behaviors, the major risk factor was unprotected oral sex. Based on these results, we recommended designing interventions to improve sexual education and preventive approaches from early stages such as in middle school students to mitigate sexually transmitted infections among medical university students.

Most advanced medical imaging techniques, such as positron-emission tomography (PET), require tracers that are produced in conventional particle accelerators. This paper focuses on the evaluation of a potential alternative technology based on laser-driven ion acceleration for the production of radioisotopes for PET imaging. We report for the first time the use of a high-repetition rate, ultra-intense laser system for the production of carbon-11 in multi-shot operation. Proton bunches with energies up to 10-14 MeV were systematically accelerated in long series at pulse rates between 0.1 and 1 Hz using a PW-class laser. These protons were used to activate a boron target via the 11 B(p,n) 11 C nuclear reaction. A peak activity of 234 kBq was obtained in multi-shot operation with laser pulses with an energy of 25 J. Significant carbon-11 production was also achieved for lower pulse energies. The experimental carbon-11 activities measured in this work are comparable to the levels required for preclinical PET, which would be feasible by operating at the repetition rate of current state-of-the-art technology (10 Hz). The scalability of next-generation laser-driven accelerators in terms of this parameter for sustained operation over time could increase these overall levels into the clinical PET range.

Introduction: Antibiotic-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii is a very important nosocomial pathogen worldwide. Thousands of studies have been conducted about this pathogen. However, there has not been any attempt to use all this information to highlight the research trends concerning this pathogen. Methods: Here we use unsupervised learning and natural language processing (NLP), two areas of Artificial Intelligence, to analyse the most extensive database of articles created (5,500+ articles, from 851 different journals, published over 3 decades). Results: K-means clustering found 113 theme clusters and these were defined with representative terms automatically obtained with topic modelling, summarising different research areas. The biggest clusters, all with over 100 articles, are biased toward multidrug resistance, carbapenem resistance, clinical treatment, and nosocomial infections. However, we also found that some research areas, such as ecology and non-human infections, have received very little attention. This approach allowed us to study research themes over time unveiling those of recent interest, such as the use of Cefiderocol (a recently approved antibiotic) against A. baumannii. Discussion: In a broader context, our results show that unsupervised learning, NLP and topic modelling can be used to describe and analyse the research themes for important infectious diseases. This strategy should be very useful to analyse other ESKAPE pathogens or any other pathogens relevant to Public Health.

Several species of Acanthamoeba genus are potential pathogens and etiological agents of several diseases. The pathogenic mechanisms carried out by these amoebae in different target tissues have been documented, evidencing the relevant role of contact-dependent mechanisms. With the purpose of describing the pathogenic processes carried out by these protozoans more precisely, we considered it important to determine the emission of extracellular vesicles (EVs) as part of the contact-independent pathogenicity mechanisms of A. culbertsoni, a highly pathogenic strain. Through transmission electronic microscopy (TEM) and nanoparticle tracking analysis (NTA), EVs were characterized. EVs showed lipid membrane and a size between 60 and 855 nm. The secretion of large vesicles was corroborated by confocal and TEM microscopy. The SDS-PAGE of EVs showed proteins of 45 to 200 kDa. Antigenic recognition was determined by Western Blot, and the internalization of EVs by trophozoites was observed through Dil-labeled EVs. In addition, some EVs biological characteristics were determined, such as proteolytic, hemolytic and COX activity. Furthermore, we highlighted the presence of leishmanolysin in trophozites and EVs. These results suggest that EVs are part of a contact-independent mechanism, which, together with contact-dependent ones, allow for a better understanding of the pathogenicity carried out by Acanthamoeba culbertsoni.

BACKGROUND: Ellis-van Creveld syndrome (EvCS) is an autosomal recessive ciliopathy with a disproportionate short stature, polydactyly, dystrophic nails, oral defects, and cardiac anomalies. It is caused by pathogenic variants in the EVC or EVC2 genes. To obtain further insight into the genetics of EvCS, we identified the genetic defect for the EVC2 gene in two Mexican patients. METHODS: Two Mexican families were enrolled in this study. Exome sequencing was applied in the probands to screen potential genetic variant(s), and then Sanger sequencing was used to identify the variant in the parents. Finally, a prediction of the three-dimensional structure of the mutant proteins was made. RESULTS: One patient has a compound heterozygous EVC2 mutation: a novel heterozygous variant c.519_519 + 1delinsT inherited from her mother, and a heterozygous variant c.2161delC (p.L721fs) inherited from her father. The second patient has a previously reported compound heterozygous EVC2 mutation: nonsense mutation c.645G > A (p.W215*) in exon 5 inherited from her mother, and c.273dup (p.K92fs) in exon 2 inherited from her father. In both cases, the diagnostic was Ellis-van Creveld syndrome. Three-dimensional modeling of the EVC2 protein showed that truncated proteins are produced in both patients due to the generation of premature stop codons. CONCLUSION: The identified novel heterozygous EVC2 variants, c.2161delC and c.519_519 + 1delinsT, were responsible for the Ellis-van Creveld syndrome in one of the Mexican patients. In the second Mexican patient, we identified a compound heterozygous variant, c.645G > A and c.273dup, responsible for EvCS. The findings in this study extend the EVC2 mutation spectrum and may provide new insights into the EVC2 causation and diagnosis with implications for genetic counseling and clinical management.

Gastric cancer is one of the most common, aggressive, and invasive types of malignant neoplasia. It ranks fifth for incidence and fourth for prevalence worldwide. Products of natural origin, such as propolis, have been assessed for use as new complementary therapies to combat cancer. Propolis is a bee product with antiproliferative and anticancer properties. The concentrations and types of secondary metabolites contained in propolis mainly vary according to the geographical region, the season of the year, and the species of bees that make it. The present study is a systematic review of the main articles related to the effects of propolis against gastric cancer published between 2011 and 2021 in the PubMed and Science Direct databases. Of 1305 articles published, only eight studies were selected; among their principal characteristics was the use of in vitro analysis with cell lines from gastric adenocarcinoma and in vivo murine models of the application of propolis treatments. These studies suggest that propolis arrests the cell cycle and inhibits proliferation, prevents the release of oxidizing agents, and promotes apoptosis. In vivo assays showed that propolis decreased the number of tumors by regulating the cell cycle and the expression of proteins related to apoptosis.

Rhodococcus is a pathogen that is known to cause infections in animals and humans, mainly in cases of immunocompromised patients. A case of a pediatric cancer patient suffering from a bloodstream infection caused by Rhodococcus corynebacterioides was described in this work. Gram positive rods were isolated from blood cultures. The target bacterium was identified using a combination of biochemical tests, the MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry technique, and the analysis of the 16S rRNA sequence. Moreover, an antimicrobial susceptibility test was performed using the E-test. The isolated bacterium was identified as R. corynebacterioides. The 3-year-old patient was successfully treated with vancomycin and meropenem. This is the first published report of R. corynebacterioides in a pediatric patient diagnosed with retinoblastoma that developed a bloodstream infection. R. corynebacterioides should be considered among the opportunistic infectious agents affecting pediatric cancer patients.

Fundamento: la carrera de Medicina en la Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de Villa Clara se vio afectada por la pandemia de COVID-19, lo que obligó a prescindir temporalmente de la enseñanza presencial y transitar hacia la educación a distancia. Objetivo: analizar la apreciación de los estudiantes de la carrera de Medicina sobre los resultados de la educación a distancia impuesta por la pandemia de COVID-19, en el curso 2020-2021. Métodos: se realizó un estudio descriptivo y transversal entre mayo-junio de 2021 en la Facultad de Medicina. Se utilizaron métodos teóricos para la fundamentación de la investigación; empíricos: cuestionario a los estudiantes; y estadístico-matemáticos para los valores porcentuales. Resultados: a pesar de que la mayoría de los estudiantes refirieron buenos criterios sobre la educación a distancia, el 5,1 % otorgó valoración de Mal, mientras el 9,4 % consideró Regular esta experiencia. Entre las principales dificultades expresaron insatisfacción con los programas implementados para las asignaturas, la no disponibilidad por razones técnicas del aula virtual de la universidad, la insuficiente preparación de los profesores para asumir esta modalidad y la no sistematicidad en la evaluación de las tareas docentes, lo que conllevó a pérdida del interés por el estudio. Se consideró positivo el número de estudiantes que contaban con dispositivos con conectividad a internet. Conclusiones: aunque los resultados mostraron una valoración positiva sobre la educación a distancia, esta experiencia generó sugerencias válidas dirigidas a su perfeccionamiento con la aplicación de estrategias basadas en evidencias científicas.


Background: the Medicine degree at Villa Clara University of Medical Sciences was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, which made it necessary to temporarily dispense with face-to-face teaching and move towards distance learning. Objective: to analyze the appreciation of Medicine students on the results of distance learning imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, in the 2020-2021 academic year. Methods: a descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out from May to June 2021 at the Faculty of Medicine. Theoretical methods were used for the foundation of the investigation; empirical ones: questionnaire to students; and statistical-mathematical for percentage values. Results: despite the fact that most of the students reported good criteria about distance learning, 5.1% gave a Bad rating, while 9.4% considered this experience as average. Among the main difficulties, they expressed dissatisfaction with the programs implemented for the subjects, the non-availability of the university's virtual classroom for technical reasons, the insufficient preparation of teachers to assume this modality and the non-systematic evaluation of teaching tasks, which led to loss of interest in the study. The number of students who had devices with internet connectivity was considered positive. Conclusions: although the results showed a positive evaluation of distance learning, this experience generated valid suggestions aimed at improving it with the implementation of strategies based on scientific evidence.

The α-synucleinopathies constitute a subset of neurodegenerative disorders, of which Parkinson's disease (PD) is the most common worldwide, characterized by the accumulation of misfolded α-synuclein in the cytoplasm of neurons, which spreads in a prion-like manner to anatomically interconnected brain areas. However, it is not clear how α-synucleinopathy triggers neurodegeneration. We recently developed a rat model through a single intranigral administration of the neurotoxic ß-sitosterol ß-D-glucoside (BSSG), which produces α-synucleinopathy. In this model, we aimed to evaluate the temporal pattern of levels in oxidative and nitrosative stress and mitochondrial complex I (CI) dysfunction and how these biochemical parameters are associated with neurodegeneration in different brain areas with α-synucleinopathy (Substantia nigra pars compacta, the striatum, in the hippocampus and the olfactory bulb, where α-syn aggregation spreads). Interestingly, an increase in oxidative stress and mitochondrial CI dysfunction accompanied neurodegeneration in those brain regions. Furthermore, in silico analysis suggests a high-affinity binding site for BSSG with peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPAR) alpha (PPAR-α) and gamma (PPAR-γ). These findings will contribute to elucidating the pathophysiological mechanisms associated with α-synucleinopathies and lead to the identification of new early biomarkers and therapeutic targets.

The current pandemic generated by SARS-CoV-2 has led to mass vaccination with different biologics that have shown wide variations among human populations according to the origin and formulation of the vaccine. Studies evaluating the response in individuals with a natural infection before vaccination have been limited to antibody titer analysis and evaluating a few humoral and cellular response markers, showing a more rapid and intense humoral response than individuals without prior infection. However, the basis of these differences has not been explored in depth. In the present work, we analyzed a group of pro and anti-inflammatory cytokines, antibody titers, and cell populations in peripheral blood of individuals with previous SARS-CoV-2 infection using BNT162b2 biologic. Our results suggest that higher antibody concentration in individuals with an earlier disease could be generated by higher production of plasma cells to the detriment of the presence of memory B cells in the bloodstream, which could be related to the high baseline expression of cytokines (IL-6 and IL-10) before vaccination.

Infections caused by micro-organisms of the genus Candida are becoming a growing health problem worldwide. These fungi are opportunistic commensals that can produce infections-clinically known as candidiasis-in immunocompromised individuals. The indiscriminate use of different anti-fungal treatments has triggered the resistance of Candida species to currently used therapies. In this sense, propolis has been shown to have potent antimicrobial properties and thus can be used as an approach for the inhibition of Candida species. Therefore, this work aims to evaluate the anti-Candida effects of a propolis extract obtained from the north of Mexico on clinical isolates of Candida species. Candida species were specifically identified from oral lesions, and both the qualitative and quantitative anti-Candida effects of the Mexican propolis were evaluated, as well as its inhibitory effect on C. albicans isolate's germ tube growth and chemical composition. Three Candida species were identified, and our results indicated that the inhibition halos of the propolis ranged from 7.6 to 21.43 mm, while that of the MFC and FC50 ranged from 0.312 to 1.25 and 0.014 to 0.244 mg/mL, respectively. Moreover, the propolis was found to inhibit germ tube formation (IC50 ranging from 0.030 to 1.291 mg/mL). Chemical composition analysis indicated the presence of flavonoids, including pinocembrin, baicalein, pinobanksin chalcone, rhamnetin, and biochanin A, in the Mexican propolis extract. In summary, our work shows that Mexican propolis presents significant anti-Candida effects related to its chemical composition, and also inhibits germ tube growth. Other Candida species virulence factors should be investigated in future research in order to determine the mechanisms associated with antifungal effects against them.

Genomics has set the basis for a variety of methodologies that produce high-throughput datasets identifying the different players that define gene regulation, particularly regulation of transcription initiation and operon organization. These datasets are available in public repositories, such as the Gene Expression Omnibus, or ArrayExpress. However, accessing and navigating such a wealth of data is not straightforward. No resource currently exists that offers all available high and low-throughput data on transcriptional regulation in Escherichia coli K-12 to easily use both as whole datasets, or as individual interactions and regulatory elements. RegulonDB (https://regulondb.ccg.unam.mx) began gathering high-throughput dataset collections in 2009, starting with transcription start sites, then adding ChIP-seq and gSELEX in 2012, with up to 99 different experimental high-throughput datasets available in 2019. In this paper we present a radical upgrade to more than 2000 high-throughput datasets, processed to facilitate their comparison, introducing up-to-date collections of transcription termination sites, transcription units, as well as transcription factor binding interactions derived from ChIP-seq, ChIP-exo, gSELEX and DAP-seq experiments, besides expression profiles derived from RNA-seq experiments. For ChIP-seq experiments we offer both the data as presented by the authors, as well as data uniformly processed in-house, enhancing their comparability, as well as the traceability of the methods and reproducibility of the results. Furthermore, we have expanded the tools available for browsing and visualization across and within datasets. We include comparisons against previously existing knowledge in RegulonDB from classic experiments, a nucleotide-resolution genome viewer, and an interface that enables users to browse datasets by querying their metadata. A particular effort was made to automatically extract detailed experimental growth conditions by implementing an assisted curation strategy applying Natural language processing and machine learning. We provide summaries with the total number of interactions found in each experiment, as well as tools to identify common results among different experiments. This is a long-awaited resource to make use of such wealth of knowledge and advance our understanding of the biology of the model bacterium E. coli K-12.

Genotyping of T. gondii in human cases is relevant to understand the transmission patterns and epidemiology of this parasitosis. However, this genetic characterization can be hampered by the difficulty of isolating the parasite from mild or asymptomatic cases and by the detection efficiency of molecular assays such as the multilocus nested-polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (Mn-PCR-RLFP). To propose an alternative for the genotyping of positive clinical samples of T. gondii with a low amount of the parasite DNA mixed within the host DNA or mixed infections, we carried out this study to validate the sequences of the SAG3 gene of T. gondii obtained after two rounds of amplification cloned into a bacterial model, thereby achieving the separation and identification of more than one genotype of T. gondii. Also, the detection limit of the parasite DNA and the fidelity of the reagents used in the nested PCR-RFLP in artificial clinical samples by sequencing were determined. T. gondii DNA was detected from 6.25 ng of DNA and 200 parasites/mL of blood. The fidelity of the AmpliTaq Gold™ polymerase after 65 cycles of amplification was 100%. Denaturation of the products obtained after two rounds of nested PCR amplification showed no evidence of chimera or artifact production. The cloning efficiency was 97.5% (39/40 clones), and none of the experiments produced recombinant sequences. Thus, the generation of chimeras with this methodology could be ruled out. Genotyping of clinical samples is important because there is no strain selection bias, as can occur in the bioassay (where more virulent strains can be selected over nonvirulent strains), and therefore, mixed infections can be detected through cloning and sequencing. Furthermore, these two techniques could be useful tools to genotype weak amplicons of any T. gondii gene obtained during nested PCR.

BACKGROUND: Currently, more than 300 genotypes of Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii) have been described throughout the world, demonstrating its wide genetic diversity. The SAG3 locus is one of the genes included in the genotyping panel of this parasite. It is associated with its virulence since it participates during the invasion process of the host cells. Therefore, cloning, sequencing, and bioinformatic analysis were used to deepen the understanding of the SAG3 locus genetic diversity of T. gondii in blood samples from feral cats. RESULTS: Six different SAG3 sequences were detected, five of which were detected in one feline. Three sequences were first reported here; one of them was an intragenic recombinant. In the cladogram, four out of ten SAG3 sequences did not share nodes with others reported worldwide. CONCLUSIONS: Cloning and sequencing of samples with more than one restriction pattern by PCR-RFLP were very helpful tools to demonstrate the presence of more than three genotypes of T. gondii in the blood of feral cats from southeastern Mexico. This suggests a potential mixed infection of multiple T. gondii strains and high genetic diversity of the parasites in felines in this tropical region of Mexico.

Knowledge of epidemiology, genetic etiopathogenesis, diagnostic criteria, and management of familial hypercholesterolemia have increased in the last two decades. Several population studies have shown that familial hypercholesterolemia is more frequent than previously thought, making this entity the most common metabolic disease with monogenic inheritance in the world. Identification of causal heterozygous pathogenic variants in LDLR, APOB, and PCSK9 genes has increased diagnostic accuracy of classical criteria (extreme hypercholesterolemia, personal / family history of premature coronary artery disease or other cardiovascular diseases). Genetic screening has been recently introduced in many European countries to detect patients with familial hypercholesterolemia, mainly affected pediatric subjects, asymptomatic or those at the beggining of their disease, to increase surveillance and avoid complications such as cardiovascular diseases. Cholesterol- lowering drugs should be started as soon as the diagnosis is made. Various combinations between drugs can be used when the goal is not achieved. New therapies, including small interference ribonucleic acids (siRNA) are being tested in different clinical trials.

The skin is the main external organ. It protects against different types of potentially harmful agents, such as pathogens, or physical factors, such as radiation. Skin disorders are very diverse, and some of them lack adequate and accessible treatment. The photoaging of the skin is a problem of great relevance since it is related to the development of cancer, while psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease that causes scaly skin lesions and deterioration of the lifestyle of people affected. These diseases affect the patient's health and quality of life, so alternatives have been sought that improve the treatment for these diseases. This review focuses on describing the properties and benefits of flavonoids from propolis against these diseases. The information collected shows that the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of flavonoids play a crucial role in the control and regulation of the cellular and biochemical alterations caused by these diseases; moreover, flavones, flavonols, flavanones, flavan-3-ols, and isoflavones contained in different worldwide propolis samples are the types of flavonoids usually evaluated in both diseases. Therefore, the research carried out in the area of dermatology with bioactive compounds of different origins is of great relevance to developing preventive and therapeutic approaches.

Automatic document classification for highly interrelated classes is a demanding task that becomes more challenging when there is little labeled data for training. Such is the case of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) Clinical repository-a repository of classified and translated academic articles related to COVID-19 and relevant to the clinical practice-where a 3-way classification scheme is being applied to COVID-19 literature. During the 7th Biomedical Linked Annotation Hackathon (BLAH7) hackathon, we performed experiments to explore the use of named-entity-recognition (NER) to improve the classification. We processed the literature with OntoGene's Biomedical Entity Recogniser (OGER) and used the resulting identified Named Entities (NE) and their links to major biological databases as extra input features for the classifier. We compared the results with a baseline model without the OGER extracted features. In these proof-of-concept experiments, we observed a clear gain on COVID-19 literature classification. In particular, NE's origin was useful to classify document types and NE's type for clinical specialties. Due to the limitations of the small dataset, we can only conclude that our results suggests that NER would benefit this classification task. In order to accurately estimate this benefit, further experiments with a larger dataset would be needed.

The number of published papers in biomedical research makes it rather impossible for a researcher to keep up to date. This is where manually curated databases contribute facilitating the access to knowledge. However, the structure required by databases strongly limits the type of valuable information that can be incorporated. Here, we present Lisen&Curate, a curation system that facilitates linking sentences or part of sentences (both considered sources) in articles with their corresponding curated objects, so that rich additional information of these objects is easily available to users. These sources are going to be offered both within RegulonDB and a new database, L-Regulon. To show the relevance of our work, two senior curators performed a curation of 31 articles on the regulation of transcription initiation of E. coli using Lisen&Curate. As a result, 194 objects were curated and 781 sources were recorded. We also found that these sources are useful to develop automatic approaches to detect objects in articles by observing word frequency patterns and by carrying out an open information extraction task. Sources may help to elaborate a controlled vocabulary of experimental methods. Finally, we discuss our ecosystem of interconnected applications, RegulonDB, L-Regulon, and Lisen&Curate, to facilitate the access to knowledge on regulation of transcription initiation in bacteria. We see our proposal as the starting point to change the way experimentalists connect a piece of knowledge with its evidence using RegulonDB.

Infectious diseases are a significant problem affecting the public health and economic stability of societies all over the world. Treatment is available for most of these diseases; however, many pathogens have developed resistance to drugs, necessitating the development of new therapies with chemical agents, which can have serious side effects and high toxicity. In addition, the severity and aggressiveness of emerging and re-emerging diseases, such as pandemics caused by viral agents, have led to the priority of investigating new therapies to complement the treatment of different infectious diseases. Alternative and complementary medicine is widely used throughout the world due to its low cost and easy access and has been shown to provide a wide repertoire of options for the treatment of various conditions. In this work, we address the relevance of the effects of propolis on the causal pathogens of the main infectious diseases with medical relevance; the existing compiled information shows that propolis has effects on Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, fungi, protozoan parasites and helminths, and viruses; however, challenges remain, such as the assessment of their effects in clinical studies for adequate and safe use.

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are the most commonly used drugs due to their antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic properties. However, NSAIDs can cause adverse reactions, mainly gastrointestinal damage. Omeprazole (OMP) exhibits gastroprotective activity, but its protection is limited at the intestinal level. For this reason, it is essential to utilize a combination of therapies that provide fewer adverse effects, such as the combined treatment of OMP and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), an omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid with anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and gastroprotective activities. The objective of this study was to evaluate the pharmacological interaction between DHA and OMP in a murine model of indomethacin-induced gastrointestinal damage. The gastroprotective and enteroprotective effects of DHA (0.3-10 mg/kg, p.o.), OMP (1-30 mg/kg, p.o.), or the combination treatment of both compounds (3-56.23 mg/kg, p.o.) were evaluated in the indomethacin-induced gastrointestinal damage model (30 mg/kg, p.o.). Since DHA and OMP exhibited a protective effect in a dose-responsive fashion, the ED30 for each individual compound was determined and a 1:1 combination of DHA and OMP was tested. Isobolographic analysis was used to determine any pharmacodynamic interactions. Since the effective experimental dose ED30 (Zexp) of the combined treatment of DHA and OMP was lower than the theoretical additive dose (Zadd; p < .05) in both the stomach and small intestine their protective effects were considered synergistic. These results indicate that the synergistic protective effects from combined treatment of DHA and OMP could be ideal for mitigating damage generated by NSAIDs at the gastrointestinal level.
