RESUMO

In alkaline media, slow water dissociation leads to poor overall hydrogen evolution performance. However, Ru catalysts have a certain water dissociation performance, thus regulating the Ru-H bond through vacancy engineering and accelerating water dissociation. Herein, an excellent Ru-based electrocatalyst for the alkaline HER has been developed by incorporating Ru into Se vacancy-containing CoSe2 (Ru-VSe-CoSe2). The results from X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, kinetic isotope effect, and cyanide poisoning experiments for four catalysts (namely Ru-VSe-CoSe2, Ru-CoSe2, VSe-CoSe2, and CoSe2) reveal that Ru is the main active site in Ru-VSe-CoSe2 and the presence of Se vacancies greatly facilitates electron transfer from Co to Ru via a bridging Se atom. Thus, electron-rich Ru is formed to optimize the adsorption strength between the active site and H*, and ultimately facilitates the whole alkaline HER process. Consequently, Ru-VSe-CoSe2 exhibits an excellent HER activity with an ultrahigh mass activity of 44.2 A mgRu-1 (20% PtC exhibits only 3 A mgRu-1) and a much lower overpotential (29 mV at 10 mA cm-2) compared to Ru-CoSe2 (75 mV), VSe-CoSe2 (167 mV), CoSe2 (190 mV), and commercial Pt/C (41 mV). In addition, the practical application of Ru-VSe-CoSe2 is illustrated by designing a Zn-H2O alkaline battery with Ru-VSe-CoSe2 as the cathode catalyst, and this battery shows its potential application with a maximum power density of 4.9 mW cm-2 and can work continuously for over 10 h at 10 mA cm-2 without an obvious decay in voltage.

RESUMO

Chromosome engineering is an important approach for generating wheat germplasm. Efficient development of chromosome aberrations will facilitate the introgression and application of alien genes in wheat. In this study, zebularine, a DNA methylation transferase inhibitor, was successfully used to induce chromosome aberrations in the octoploid triticale cultivar Jinghui#1. Dry seeds were soaked in zebularine solutions (250, 500, and 750 µmol/L) for 24 h, and the 500 µmol/L treatment was tested in three additional treatment times, i.e., 12, 36, and 48 h. All treatments induced aberrations involving wheat and rye chromosomes. Of the 920 cells observed in 67 M1 plants, 340 (37.0%) carried 817 aberrations with an average of 0.89 aberrations per cell (range: 0-12). The aberrations included probable deletions, telosomes and acentric fragments (49.0%), large segmental translocations (28.9%), small segmental translocations (17.1%), intercalary translocations (2.6%), long chromosomes that could carry more than one centromere (2.0%), and ring chromosomes (0.5%). Of 510 M2 plants analyzed, 110 (21.6%) were found to carry stable aberrations. Such aberrations included 79 with varied rye chromosome numbers, 7 with wheat and rye chromosome translocations, 15 with possible rye telosomes/deletions, and 9 with complex aberrations involving variation in rye chromosome number and wheat-rye translocations. These indicated that aberrations induced by zebularine can be steadily transmitted, suggesting that zebularine is a new efficient agent for chromosome manipulation.

RESUMO

Air quality model can be an adequate tool for future air quality prediction, also atmospheric observations supporting and emission control strategies responders. The influence of emission control policy (emission reduction targets in the national "China's 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015)") on the air quality in the near future over an important industrial city of China, Xuanwei in Yunnan Province, was studied by applying the AERMOD modeling system. First, our analysis demonstrated that the AERMOD modeling system could be used in the air quality simulation in the near future for SO2 and NOx under average meteorology but not for PM10. Second, after evaluating the simulation results in 2008 and 2015, ambient concentration of SO2, NOx and PM10 (only 2008) were all centered in the middle of simulation area where the emission sources concentrated, and it is probably because the air pollutions were source oriented. Last but not least, a better air quality condition will happen under the hypothesis that the average meteorological data can be used in near future simulation. However, there are still heavy polluted areas where ambient concentrations will exceed the air quality standard in near future. In spatial allocation, reduction effect of SO2 is more significant than NOx in 2015 as the contribution of SO2 from industry is more than NOx. These results inspired the regulatory applications of AERMOD modeling system in evaluating environmental pollutant control policy.
