A PRISMA-compliant systematic review and network meta-analysis on the efficacy between different regimens based on Tripterygium wilfordii Hook F in patients with primary nephrotic syndrome.

BACKGROUND: The present study aims to comprehensively determine the efficacy of different therapy regimens based on Tripterygium wilfordii Hook F (TwHF) for patients with primary nephrotic syndrome (PNS) using network meta-analysis method. METHODS: Seven electronic databases were searched to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that compared the differences between different therapy regimens based on TwHF for patients with PNS. The risk of bias in included RCTs was evaluated according to the Cochrane Handbook version 5.2.0. Network meta-analysis was performed to compare different regimens. Primary outcomes were complete remission rate and total remission rate. The secondary outcomes were hr urinary protein excretion, serum albumin, serum creatinine, and urea nitrogen. Data analysis was performed using R software. RESULTS: A total of 40 studies involving 2846 patients with PNS were included. Compared with prednisone, the improvement in total remission rate and complete remission rate was associated with TwHF alone (odds ratio [OR] = 4.80, 95% credible intervals [CrI]: 2.20-10.00; OR = 6.30, 95% CrI: 2.90-13.00, respectively), TwHF+prednisone (OR = 2.10, 95% CrI: 1.30-3.50; OR = 2.40, 95% CrI: 1.50-3.80, respectively), TwHF+CPA (OR = 12.00, 95% CrI: 1.10-150.00; OR = 16.00, 95% CrI: 1.60-170.00, respectively), and TwHF+Cyclosporine A (OR = 28.00, 95% CrI: 3.20-250.00; OR = 35.00, 95% CrI: 4.50-270.00, respectively). Compared with TwHF alone, TwHF+prednisone showed less benefit in improving total remission rate and complete remission rate (OR = 0.44, 95% CrI: 0.21-0.91; OR = 0.38, 95% CrI: 0.19-0.77, respectively). TwHF alone, TwHF+prednisone could significantly reduce hr urinary protein excretion (MD = -0.69, 95% CrI: -1.30 to -0.14; MD = -1.00, 95% CrI: -1.90 to -0.14, respectively) and increase serum albumin (MD = 5.90, 95% CrI: 2.50-9.30; MD = 3.40, 95% CrI: 1.30-5.50, respectively) when compared to prednisone alone. TwHF alone showed significant reduction in serum creatinine when compared to CPA (MD = -19.00, 95% CrI: -37.00 to -0.56). CONCLUSIONS: TwHF alone, the addition TwHF to prednisone showed more benefit in improving total and complete remission rate, hr urinary protein excretion, serum albumin, and serum creatinine.

[Study of self-absorption effect on laser-induced metal plasma].

In order to reduce the effect of the spectral line self-absorption on the analysis result in the laser induced plasma and enhance the qualities of spectrum, the spectral information was recorded by the spectral analysis system consisting of a modular multifunctional grating spectrometer and a CCD detector etc., and the electron temperature and electron density of the plasma were measured with the spectroscopic methods. A plane mirror device was used to constraint the laser plasma, and a reasonable explanation was got through comparing the linear evolution under different experimental conditions and measuring the temperature, electronic density and sample evaporation. The result shows that when an appropriate plane mirror device was used to constraint the laser plasma, the axial temperature of the plasma increased and the radial distribution of the plasma becomes uniform; the electron density increased dramatically; however, obviously sample evaporation decreased, which may be the reasons for being able to effectively reduce the level of self-absorption spectral lines. Therefore, the plane mirror device could reduce the self-absorption effect in the laser-induced plasma. This makes it possible to choose a sensitive line that acts as analysis line in the quantitative analysis of the major elements. In other words, this promotes the measurement precision in the laser-induced break-down spectroscopy.

[Restraining effects of acupuncture on photoreceptor cell apoptosis in rats with retinitis pigmentosa induced by N-methyl-N-nitrosourea].

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of acupuncture on photoreceptor cell apoptosis in rats with retinitis pigmentosa induced by N-methyl-N-nitrosourea (MNU). METHODS: Fifty-day-old female SD rats were established into model of retinitis pigmentosa by once intraperitoneal injection of 50 mg/kg MNU, and randomly grouped to the acupuncture group and the model group for observing the cell apoptosis in rats and compared with that in normal rats at the corresponding time points. RESULTS: Acupuncture showed no effect on cell apoptosis at its peak of occurring, apoptotic phenomena still could be seen on days 5 and 7, but it was significantly less in the acupuncture group than in the model group (P < 0.01). Moreover, acupuncture showed a restraining effect on the up-regulation of caspase-3 activity. CONCLUSION: Acupuncture can restrain the MNU induced apoptosis of photoreceptor cells, the effect is correlated, to a certain degree, with the status of the apoptosis occurrence.

[Effect of acupuncture combined behavior intervention on children with autism].

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of acupuncture combined behavior intervention on children with autism. METHODS: Patients were treated by "Jin's three-needling" as the main measure with the assistance of behavior intervention, and the changes were compared among the three groups (29 cases in combination group, 15 cases in acupuncture group and 10 cases in intervention group) before and after treatment of various factors and scores estimated by the autism behavior checklist (ABC) and autism development checklist (ADC). RESULTS: In the combination group, the total scores of ABC and most factors of ABC including body movement, social communication and language factor were improved significantly after treatment (P < 0.01), but there was no significant changes in sense factor and daily life self-caring factor (P > 0.05). Comparison of most items of ADC before and after treatment also showed significant difference (P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: Acupuncture combined behavior intervention has better therapeutic efficacy in the treatment of children with autism.
