RESUMO

The favorable responses of crop species to low-dose γ irradiation can help to develop cultivars with increased productivity and improved stress tolerance. In the present study, we tried to reveal the candidate metabolites involved in growth stimulation of barley seedlings after applying low-dose γ-radiation (60Co) to seeds. Stimulating doses (5-20 Gy) provided a significant increase in shoot length and biomass, while relatively high dose of 100 Gy led to significant inhibition of growth. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry metabolomic analysis uncovered several compounds that may take part in radiation hormesis establishment in irradiated plants. This includes molecules involved in nitrogen redistribution (arginine, glutamine, asparagine, and γ-aminobutyric acid) and stress-responsive metabolites, such as ascorbate, myo-inositol and its derivates, and free amino acids (l-serine, ß-alanine, pipecolate, and GABA). These results contribute to the understanding of the molecular mechanisms of hormesis phenomenon.

RESUMO

Genetic and epigenetic changes were investigated in chronically irradiated Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) populations from territories that were heavily contaminated by radionuclides as result of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant accident. In comparison to the reference site, the genetic diversity revealed by electrophoretic mobility of AFLPs was found to be significantly higher at the radioactively contaminated areas. In addition, the genome of pine trees was significantly hypermethylated at 4 of the 7 affected sites.

RESUMO

Reflected high-intensity signals of left ventricular motion can be used for assessment of diastolic function of left ventricle. There are many correlations between reflected high-intensity signals, transmitral flow, and tissue Doppler imaging parameters. Diagnostic criteria of LV diastolic dysfunction based on measurement of LV motion are suggested.

RESUMO

Vascular duplex ultrasound duplex with simultaneous ECG registration was made to estimate the quantitative and time parameters of blood flow in the renal arteries with grade 1-2 arterial hypertension. There were increases in vascular resistance indices and acceleration phase index and a reduction in systolic phase index. There were correlations of the time parameters of blood flow in the renal arteries with age and lipidogram values.

RESUMO

Vascular duplex ultrasound study with simultaneous ECG recording was performed to estimate the timing parameters of blood flow in the common carotid, internal carotid, and middle cerebral arteries in patients with grades 1 and 2 arterial hypertension. There was an increase in the blood flow acceleration phase index in the common carotid and middle cerebral arteries and a reduction in the systolic phase index in the internal carotid arteries. There were correlations of phasic blood flow parameters in the extra- and intracranial arteries with age and lipidogram readings.
