RESUMO

The study on the extraction conditions, purification, and biological activity of slash pine (Pinus elliottii.) is important for the development of slash pine resources. The optimal process conditions for the extraction of slash pine polysaccharide (SPP) were determined, resulting in a liquid-solid ratio of 66.94 mL/g, extraction temperature of 83.74 °C and extraction time of 2.56 h by using the response surface methodology, and the yield of SPP was 5.99% under the optimized conditions. Following the purification of SPP, the SPP-2 component was obtained and its physicochemical properties, functional group composition, antioxidant capacity, and moisturizing capacity were determined. Structural analysis suggested that SPP-2 has a molecular weight of 118.407 kDa, and was composed of rhamnose, arabinose, fucose, xylose, mannose, glucose, and galactose in a ratio of 5.98: 14.34: 1: 1.75: 13.50: 3.43: 15.79. The antioxidant activity analysis showed that SPP-2 has good free radical scavenging activity, and it was also found to have in vitro moisturizing activity and low irritation. These results suggest that SPP-2 has the potential for applications in the pharmaceutical, food, and cosmetic industries.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the factors related to postoperative recurrence in patients with localized laryngeal amyloidosis (LocLA) and to construct a nomogram prediction model (NPM). METHODS: We collected the data for LocLA patients diagnosed from March 2000 to May 2019 and clinical characteristics data were extracted. Factors related to recurrence were analyzed using multivariate logistic regression. The NPM was constructed for predicting the recurrence risk of LocLA. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve evaluated the distinguishing ability using the area under curve (AUC). The calibration curve was created to evaluate the consistency of the NPM. RESULTS: A total of 226 confirmed LocLA cases were included. One hundred seventy-five cases (77.4%) had localized single nodule, and 51 cases had more than one lesions. Sixty-three (27.9%) cases had no multinucleated giant cell (MGC) around amyloid, and 163 (72.1%) cases had MGC around amyloid. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that more than one lesions (odds ratio [OR] = 3.206 and 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.492-6.888; P value: .003), subglottic involvement (OR = 2.926 and 95% CI: 1.300-6.585; P = .010), and no multinucleated giant cell (MGC) around amyloid (OR = 2.503 and 95% CI: 1.173-5.342; P = .018) had a statistically significant effect on postoperative LocLA recurrence (P < .05). The AUC of the ROC curve was 0.753 (95% CI: 0.667-0.832). The bias-corrected curve approached the ideal curve, with an average absolute error of 0.037. CONCLUSIONS: More than one lesions, subglottic involvement, and no MGC around amyloid are risk factors for postoperative recurrence of LocLA. The NPM constructed has good applicability.

RESUMO

Background: Poststroke depression (PSD) is a common neuropsychiatric disorder that affects the disability, mortality, functional recovery, and quality of daily life of patients. Xiaoyao Recipe (XYR) is often used to treat PSD and has achieved good clinical effects, but it lacks reliable evidence. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of XYR on PSD through meta-analysis. Methods: A comprehensive literature search was carried out in multiple databases, including PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Chinese Biomedical Literature Service System, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Database, VIP Database, and ClinicalTrials, from inception to July 1, 2021, to collect randomized controlled trials that applied XYR for patients with PSD. For a controlled trial, the search time limit was set from the time of the database's establishment to July 2021. Two experienced researchers independently screened the literature according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, extracted data, evaluated the quality of the literature, and used RevMan 5.3 software for meta-analysis. Results: A total of 12 studies were included in this study, involving 882 patients with PSD who were hospitalized or outpatients. The meta-analysis results showed that the total effective rate (p < 0.00001) of the test group (XYR or XYR combined with antidepressants) after treatment was high; Hamilton's Depression Scale score (p < 0.000001), Scandinavian Stroke Scale score (p=0.004 < 0.05), and Barthel index (p < 0.00001) were improved; the incidence of adverse reactions (p < 0.00001) was low; and the serum serotonin content (p < 0.00001) was high. Conclusion: Compared with antidepressant drugs, XYR is more effective and safer in the treatment of PSD patients. However, more high-quality studies are needed to further support the above conclusions.

RESUMO

CONCLUSIONS: The present study indicates that miR-21 is involved in progression from normal to pre-malignant laryngeal lesions (PLLs) and from PLLs to laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC). Furthermore, normalized PCR results for miR-21 might be used to discriminate between normal and ordinary hyperplasia before the emergence of dysplasias and pre-malignant lesions with malignant potential. OBJECTIVE: To investigate a sensitive marker that contributes to progression from normal tissue to PLLs and from PLLs to LSCC. METHODS: In 116 PLLs and LSCC patients and 19 without dysplasia matched sets of tissue and plasma samples from Beijing Tongren Hospital, miR-21 was analysed by droplet digital PCR and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction based on paraffin-embedded tumour tissue and plasma. RESULTS: Compared with controls, miR-21 levels in tissue and plasma were significantly higher for both PLL and LSCC groups (for both groups vs controls: p < 0.0001 for tissue; p < 0.05 for plasma). Areas under receiver-operating curves (AUC) for tissue miR-21 were PLL group vs controls: 0.9026 and LSCC group vs controls: 0.8681. For plasma miR-21, AUCs were PLL group vs controls: 0.7355 and LSCC group vs control: 0.6723.

RESUMO

AIMS: Concomitant occurrence of Mikulicz's disease (MD) and immunoglobulin (Ig)G4-related chronic rhinosinusitis (IgG4-related CRS) is extremely rare. We evaluated the clinicopathological features of MD patients with concomitant IgG4-related CRS (CRS-MD). METHODS AND RESULTS: Twelve CRS-MD patients were evaluated clinically and biopsy samples were taken from the lacrimal/salivary glands (n = 12) and nasal mucosa (n = 7) for assessment of IgG4-positive cells, using immunohistochemical techniques. Similarly, nine MD patients and 10 patients with common CRS were evaluated as controls. CRS-MD patients had higher serum IgG and IgG4 concentrations than MD patients (P < 0.05 for both). Lymphoplasmacytic infiltration, lymphoid follicle formation and sclerosis was prominent in the lacrimal/salivary glands in both groups; however, the magnitude of IgG4-positive plasma cells infiltration in the CRS-MD group was significantly higher compared to the MD group (P = 0.004). Similarly, evaluation of nasal mucosa revealed greater lymphocyte, plasma cell and eosinophil infiltration and lymphoid follicle formation, together with significantly higher IgG4-positive plasma cell infiltration in the CRS-MD group compared to the common CRS group (P = 0.004). CONCLUSIONS: Concomitant MD and IgG4-related CRS were characterized by a combination of IgG4-positive plasma cells infiltration in the lacrimal/salivary glands and the nasal mucosa and increased serum IgG4.
