[Salivary gland tumor in authors' material]. / Nowotwory slinianek w materiale wlasnym.

The aim this work was to analyze the operated salivary gland tumors, taking into consideration the age and the sex of the patients. From 1980 to 1996 74 patients were operated including 40 women and 34 men, aged 21-78. Out of those 74 salivary gland tumors which were operated, conservative operation was carried out in 62 patients (85.2%) while in 11 patients (14.8%) it was radical operation. Most of the patients who underwent the operation were at the age between 31 and 60 (77.1%). In most cases--77.2% we had to do with mixed tumor of parotid gland and in 4% of submaxillary gland. Postsurgery complications in the from of complete facial paralysis were shown in 14.8% of the patients.

[Zinnat in ambulatory treatment of acute pharyngitis and otitis media in adult patients]. / Zinnat w leczeniu ambulatoryjnym ostrych stanów zapalnych gardla i ucha srodkowego u doroslych.

The aim of this work was the assessment of therapeutic efficacy of antibiotic Zinnat (Cefuroksym Aksetyl) in ambulatory treatment of acute pharyngitis and otitis media in 20 adult patients, aged 21-36. The efficacy of Zinnat was assessed on the basis of the smear from the throat and external auditory meatus to examine the culture and antibiogram, fever chart and self-assessment chart of symptoms which were assessed from 0 to 4. It was shown that Zinnat is an effective antibiotic in ambulatory treatment of acute pharyngitis and otitis media. It shows a wide range of antibacterial effect comprising most often occurring pathogens bringing about acute pharyngitis and otitis media.

[The evaluation of the usefulness of electronystagmography studies in Doppler's intracranial ultrasonography and brain stem evoked potentials in patients with vertigo]. / Ocena przydatnosci badan elektronystagmograficznych przezczaszkowej ultrasonografii dopplerowskiej i sluchowych potencjalów wywolanych z pnia mózgu u chorych z zawrotami glowy.

The aim of the work was the evaluation of correlations between the electronystagmographic results examinations and Doppler's intracranial ultrasonography and brainstem auditory evoked potentials in patients with vertigo. The were 68 patients tested (39 women and 29 men) aged 34-68 years. The obtained results showed for the correlations between the electronystagmographic results examinations and Doppler's intracranial ultrasonography and brainstem auditory evoked potentials.

The authors showed the case of oesophageal perforation during an attempt to remove of foreign body at 37-year-old man. The foreign body (bone) was removed by right thoracotomy.

The evaluation of oxygen species generation in blood granulocytes of patients with chronic inflammation of middle ear and palatine tonils. There were 38 patients tested (10 with chronic inflammation of palatine tonsil, 18 with chronic inflammation of middle ear and 10 healthy ones). There were statistically significant differences between the superoxide anion generation in patients with chronic inflammation of palatine tonsil and middle ear in comparison with to the healthy ones.

[The evaluation of granulocyte (PMNL) function of patients with chronic hypertrophy of larynx and paranasal sinuses]. / Ocena funkcji granulocytów (PMNL) u chorych ze zmianami rzerostowymi krtani i zatok przynosowych.

The evaluation of granulocytes function (PMNL) at patients with chronic hypertrophy of larynx and paranasal sinuses. There were 40 people examined and divided into: 10 patients with hypertrophy of larynx, 13 patients with hypertrophy of paranasal sinuses and 17 healthy people. There were evaluated: emission of chemiluminescence (CL), absorption of isotope (phagocytic index) in our modification migration in vivo and in vitro and the bacteriotoxic index. The function of granulocytes in patients with hypertrophy of larynx and paranasal sinuses were changed more in comparison with the healthy people.

[Esophageal foreign bodies in material received by the otolaryngological department of the Military Medical Academy]. / Ciala obce przelyku w materiale Kliniki Otolaryngologicznej WAM.

The authors described 26 cases with oesophageal foreign bodies during emergency service. The pork bone was the most frequent of oesophageal foreign body (57.7%).

[On primarily bifocal laryngeal carcinoma and bronchogenic cyst of the neck]. / W sprawie raka pierwotnego dwuogniskowego krtani i torbieli skrzelopochodnej szyi.

The authors discuss a problem of rarely occurring bifocal carcinomas with the presentation of their own case of laryngeal carcinoma and branchiogenic cyst of the neck. They pay attention to histopathologic features underlying the diagnosis of branchiogenic cyst carcinoma and to the necessity of oncologic alertness in tumors of these kinds.

[Laryngological evaluation of the state of health of workers in brown coal mines at Belchatów]. / Ocena laryngologiczna stanu zdrowia pracowników kopalni wégla brunatnego w Belchatowie.

Laryngological examinations were carried out in 528 workers and candidates for work in the mine. In 64 persons examined (12,1%) a temporary or permanent contraindications for employment were ascertained. They were referred to hospital treatment or proposed a change of work-post so as to fit it to health state.
