RESUMO
Hardphase ELISA was used to compare the blood sera of patients with malignant skin lymphomas and HIV infection and of healthy volunteers for autoimmune antibodies to CD4. Antibodies to CD4 were not detected in the volunteers (30 sera) and in the patients with malignant skin lymphomas (52 patients with different disease stages). The antibodies were found in 4 of 11 HIV cases.

Disorders in restructuring of T-cell receptor gamma-chain in DNA from skin biopsy specimens and peripheral blood lymphocyte of patients with malignant skin lymphomas at different stages of the disease were detected by PCR. Nucleotide sequences of monoclonal T-cell receptors were determined. The study showed that DNA sequences from the skin and lymphocytes did not coincide in some cases.

The concentrations of tumor necrosis factor-alpha, interleukin-1beta, interleukin-2, interleukin-4, and the content of antibodies to H1 histone fraction in peripheral blood lymphocytes, epidermis, and serum were evaluated in patients with mycosis fungoides. It was found that as the disease progresses, cytokine synthesis is switched from Th1 to Th2 class and production of proinflammatory cytokines increases, which indirectly promotes the development of the autoimmune reaction.

Histone proteins and nucleic acid precursors were studied in 10 normal subjects and 20 patients with disseminated psoriasis before and after combined therapy including Enkad. A drop in the concentrations of H1 histones was detected in the blood lymphocytes and plasma in parallel with an increase in the concentrations of arginine-rich histones and a many-fold decrease in the acid-soluble fraction representing a pool of nucleic acid precursors. After combined therapy the ratio of lysin- and arginine-rich nuclear proteins in blood lymphocytes changed significantly and approximated the normal value; the distribution of histone-like proteins virtually did not change in the plasma, but the level of plasma and erythrocyte acid-soluble fraction normalized. This indicates positive changes in nucleic acid transport after therapy. The authors demonstrate the possibility of these findings for evaluation of the treatment efficiency.

The pool of free purine derivatives and activities of the key enzymes of purine metabolism (adenosine deaminase, purine nucleoside phosphorylase, and 5'-nucleotidase) in lymphocytes, erythrocytes, and epidermis homogenates were measured in 20 normal subjects and 15 patients with psoriasis by high-performance liquid chromatography. The levels of AMP, GMP, and IMP purine monophosphates are decreased in the epidermis and red cells of psoriasis patients, whereas the final products of hypoxanthine, xanthine, and uric acid metabolism are accumulating, and the activities of ADA and PNP are increased double in the skin, all this indicating purine derivatives catabolism.

The authors analyze the results of examinations of the lacrimal fluid by the crystallographic method in 123 patients with inflammatory, dystrophic, and tumor diseases of the eyes and orbit and in 20 healthy controls. The examinations have revealed essential changes in the lacrimal fluid crystallograms of normal subjects and patients with various ocular and orbital diseases, which fact recommends this method as one of the tools for the differential diagnosis of diseases of the organ of vision.

Tonsils from 10 patients (18-40 years old), with chronic tonsillitis were studied by means of histological methods as well as by high pressure liquid chromatography. In 5 patients with decompensated forms of the disease, accompanied by heart impairments during 1-3 years, only slight alterations in epithelial and follicular parts of tonsils were observed, while pronounced destruction of tonsil cells was detected in other 5 patients suffering from repeated anginas. The following purine and pyrimidine derivatives were identified in faucial tonsil tissue of all the patients with chronic tonsillitis studied: adenine, guanine, adenosine, guanosine, inosine and uridine. Distinct increase in content of these derivatives as well as occurrence of xanthine and uric acid (non-identified in the first group of patients with chronic tonsillitis) was noted in the patients with maximal destruction of faucial tonsil cells.

A comparative assessment of a series of laboratory tests has been made in 206 patients with infectious-allergic myocarditis. Routine laboratory parameters were shown to be of little informative value. Neutrophil alkaline phosphatase activity, the index of neutrophil damage with respect to soluble cardiac antigen, basophil and eosinophil degranulation, and absolute blood basophil and eosinophil quantity were found to be the most meaningful criteria for the assessment of the activity of inflammatory and allergic processes in patients with infectious-allergic myocarditis.

The reaction of damage to the blood neutrophils (the IND test) by a soluble cardiac antigen was studied in 10 healthy individuals, in 15 persons with infectious-allergic myocarditis and in 13 persons with myocarditic cardiosclerosis. Autoallergic shifts in relation to the cardiac antigen were revealed in half of the patients with infectious-allergic myocarditis and in one third of persons with myocarditic cardiosclerosis. The shifts were more marked in patients with infectious-allergic myocarditis.
