RESUMO

AIM: Screenings make it possible to detect anomalies that can be treated and identify patients who require referral to a specialist. The objective is to identify the different areas of research and determine the most cited publications on screening in primary care. METHODS: An analysis of publications and visualization of citation networks has been carried out using the Citation Network Explorer software. The bibliographic search was carried out with the Web of Science (WOS) database using the search term: "screening AND (vision OR eye OR ocular OR visual)". RESULTS: We analyzed 16707 publications in all fields, 23919 citation networks have been found. The number of publications has increased, with 2021 being the year with the highest number. The majority are scientific articles and the predominant language is English. The most cited article is a global meta-analysis on the prevalence of glaucoma, showing the importance of screening for its early detection since it is essential to avoid blindness. Using the clustering function we found 8 groups with a significant number of publications where we have bibliography on certain eye diseases: glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, pediatric amblyopia, keratoconus and dry eye. CONCLUSIONS: The main areas of study in relation to screening are the detection of diseases such as glaucoma, retinopathy of prematurity, keratoconus and dry eye. As well as the detection through visual analysis of childhood amblyopia and vision loss in elderly patients. It also gives importance to performing ocular motility tests in problems of acquired brain damage.

Several groups studying the results of the classic sphincteroplasty show improvement of 75% of patients treated in a short-term follow-up, with a worsening of this data in the long-term follow-up down to an improvement of 50% of the patients. Some other groups published more optimistic results, showing an 80% success rate without any deterioration of the technique over time after introducing a separate repair of the internal and external muscles. We think that the introduction of some modifications in the classic technique, named “anatomic sphincteroplasty with combined reconstruction of external and internal anal sphincter muscles” may obtain very good clinical and anorectal manometric results both in a short and mid-term follow-up. In addition, increasing the pressive length in the anal canal may contribute to maintain more stable results over time (AU)

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: The implantation of multifocal intraocular lens (IOL) has increased in recent years, allowing patients to achieve good quality vision at all distances, independence from use of glasses, and consequently, an increase in quality of life. The main purpose of this study was to analyse the links between publications and authors via citation networks, as well to as identify the different research areas and determine the most cited publications. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The publication search was performed through the Web of Science database, using the terms «Multifocal intraocular lens¼, «Bifocal intraocular lens¼, «Trifocal intraocular lens¼, «Diffractive intraocular lens¼, «Refractive intraocular lens¼, «Accommodative intraocular lens¼ and «Extended depth of focus intraocular lens¼, for a time interval from 1989 to August 2020. The software used to analyse the publications was the Citation Network Explorer. RESULTS: A total of 1293 publications were found, with 11,730 citations generated in the network, and 2019 had the highest number of publications of any year. The most cited publication was «European multicenter study of the AcrySof ReSTOR apodized diffractive intraocular lens¼ by Kohnen et al., published in 2006. Four groups about different research areas in this field were found using the Clustering functionality: visual quality, IOL designs, ocular aberrations, or defocus curves. CONCLUSIONS: The citation network offers an objective and comprehensive analysis of the main articles on the different designs and classes of multifocal IOL.

Chitosan/poly(DL-lactide-co-glycolide) (Ch/DL PLG) composite scaffolds were fabricated by freeze-drying lyophilization, and were evaluated and compared for use as a bone regeneration scaffold through measurements of the compression mechanical properties of the porous scaffolds. Also, In vitro cell culture of Sprague-Dawley rat's osteoblasts were used to evaluate the phenotype expression of cells in the scaffolds, characterizing the cellular adhesion, proliferation and alkaline phosphatase activity. The gene expression of osteocalcin, sialoprotein, alkaline phosphatase, Type I collagen and TGFß1 were confirmed in the samples; moreover, it was confirmed, the mineralization by IR spectra and EDS analysis. Our results thus show that Ch/DL PLG scaffolds are suitable for biological applications.
