RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this work was to identify the predominant fungal species present at vaginal site in different healthy cats including households, stray and cats in industrial dairy cattle herds. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fungal isolates of vaginal fluids of 100 cats were collected using the sterilized cotton swabs from discharges of vagina. The isolates were identified according to their morphological characteristics and biochemical profile. Were included 34%, 33% and 33% households, stray cats and cats of industrial dairy cattle herds of Mashhad-Iran, respectively. They were short hair cats. RESULT: Vaginal fungi were isolated from 69% of feline population. Fungal isolates were obtained from vagina of 22%, 25% and 22% of households, stray cats and cats of industrial dairy cattle herds, respectively. There were no significant differences among the cats. The highest fungal agent was recovered in cats of 1-2 years old. Twenty two different isolates were recovered in this study. The most frequently recovered species samples were Penicillum spp. (11%) followed by Aspergillus section Nidulanti (4%). However, the vagina of healthy cats could be contaminated by 2-4 different fungal agents. CONCLUSION: It is concluded that fungal infections can occur in vaginal cavity of different healthy kinds of cats.

RESUMO

We report the case of a woman with a characteristic transient skin rash, fever, severe polyarthritis, hepatosplenomegaly, lymphadenopathy and myalgia. The clinical and laboratory data led to a diagnosis of adult-onset Still's disease. The elevated levels of serum ferritin and caeruloplasmin could be important as diagnostic indicators.

RESUMO

A 7-year-old girl with generalized erythematous, scaling plaques and vesiculobullous lesions on the extremities was diagnosed as having pemphigus foliaceus. Lesional direct immunofluorescence revealed intercellular IgG, IgA and C3 deposition. The patient's serum gave positive reactions against one epitope of desmoglein 3 and the epitope of desmoglein 1 in enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays, but the blood sample for indirect immunofluorescence did not display any circulating antibodies. The patient was successfully treated systemically with prednisolone and dapsone. Currently, she is taking dapsone, 12.5 mg daily. She has been free of lesions for the last 3 years.

RESUMO

A 43-year-old woman developed annular and pustular cutaneous lesions preceded by tiny yellow pustules coating the surface of the oral mucosa. The clinical, histological and immunopathological evidence clearly showed that the patient had pyodermatitis-pyostomatitis vegetans. It is suggested that this disease is a distinct entity which should be differentiated from pemphigus vegetans.
