Bronchial asthma is a chronically disease with huge social economical consequences. Educational programs, which have been design for asthmatic patients and diminish asthma mobility and reduce medical cost. They also improve the patients quality of life. We show the results of our educational programs for asthmatic adults which were evaluated through a questionnaire applied to these patient one year after the program was introduced. The results show decreased of medicine required asthmatic crisis.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Asthma is a world health problem. Education of asthmatic patient has been proposed as a choice for diminishing mortality due to asthma. OBJECTIVE: To demonstrate that educational programs for asthmatic patients help to reduce disease's severity, crises and hospitalizations number and encourage a bigger therapeutic compliance. MATERIAL AND METHODS: 80 asthmatic patients were divided into two groups; first one received educational curse and second one does not. All patients received treatment according to international guides, including monthly consultation, flow-meter, and symptoms day book; an initial and final evaluation was made about disease's knowledge. Course consisted of a workshop including crisis management, use of inhaled medication, flow-metry and relaxation techniques. RESULTS: We studied 76 patients, with a mean age of 34 years; 36 were assigned to group 1 and 40 to group 2. Initial assessment of both groups was of 7.8, while final evaluation of groups 1 and 2 was of 9.3 and 8.4, respectively. Group 1 had lesser number of hospitalizations than group 2 (p-0.005), lesser number of emergency consultations (p-0.005) and a higher overall improvement than group 2, in which only 8 patients got well. A third part of the group 1 abandoned treatment, while patients that abandoned treatment in group 2 accounted for 79% (p < 0.0005). CONCLUSIONS: Educational programs for asthmatic adult patients diminish severity of disease, number of crises and hospitalizations, and also increase therapeutic compliance.

RESUMO

The hyper IgE syndrome is characterized by recurrent abscess on the skin, and airways and itching dermatitis. The data acquired in the lab is hypergammaglobulinemy, eosinophil in blood, tissue, sputum, with fagocitos, and quimiotaxis defect. Since 1972 it has been reported 150 cases in the world without no geographic difference and 2:1 relation with the masculine gender. The therapeutic ways are even controversial. The therapy with interferon alpha 2 beta is the alternative treatment so diminish the dermis inflammation as the seric IgE reduction. This case shows a patient with the classic clinic data and seric IgE levels who didn't present response to the habitual therapy, because of this. He was the switch to the interferon alpha 2 beta. Later on the therapy it wasesented clinical changes over the symptomatology with reduction in the over seric IgE.

RESUMO

Laryngeal papillomatosis of viral origin and bad prognosis is characterized by multiple recurrence that induced obstruction of air pathways. Surgical remove with laser CO2 is the elected treatment and the its combination with interferon (INF) has improved the prognosis of this recurrent viral disease. Here is a presents a preliminary study based upon such therapeutic scheme. Twelve patients diagnosed with laryngeal papillomatosis; 6 women and 6 men from 32 to 72 years of age were included into two therapeutic schemes: Group B, Combined: One woman and 5 men to whom the surgical procedure was followed by a initial local dose of 3 x 10(6) IU of INF alpha 2b (Intron A) and subsequently 10 X 10(6) (of the same INF were administered intramuscular every days during 15 months the statistical analysis (Fisher test) between patients of the both groups of treatment showed a significant (p < 0.0001) clinical improvement of the patients who received the combined treatment (B). In this group of patients was found incidence of the collateral effects such as: headache, fever arthralgias, depression and anorexia.

RESUMO

This report includes a partial interpretation of the possible mechanisms of action related with the efficacy of specific immunotherapy with allergens. This cannot be explained by only one mechanism which regulates the immune reaction, which is why there is the relief that there is a large field in immunology which has yet to be explore.

RESUMO

The therapeutic panorama of immunomodulation and its effects on the modification of the immune reaction is reviewed. Particular reference is made to the transfer factor as a therapeutic element in bronchial asthma, which insures its efficacy or innocuity.

RESUMO

The climatic conditions and the vegetation in the valley of Mexico are analyzed in virtue of their modification during the last few years which have consequently altered the surrounding ecological systems. In this article, we were particularly interested in describing the botanical characteristics of the gimnospermas, an abundant vegetation in Mexico.

RESUMO

This research reports the unique case of manifestation of symptomatic dermographism which includes all of its twenty five members of the family. Probing a genetic transmission autosomal dominant manner and taking into account the highly probable role of HLA in this illness. The symptomatic dermographism correspond to a group of physical familiar urticarias with symptoms appearing in early childhood and evolving throughout adulthood with seldom periods of remission. Due to the fact that all patients were affected, it was not possible to realize a typification of HLA antigens with persons not affected, to establish a relationship with the data obtained. However, results show a significant association of haplotypes; HLA A2 (78.95), B16 (68.4%), A1 (47.3%), and B5 (42.5%) among the most important. This is the first research that reports the analysis of HLA within the physical familial urticarias.
