RESUMO

Apple snails of the genus Pomacea Perry, 1810 (Mollusca: Caenogastropoda: Ampullariidae) are native to the Neotropics and exhibit high species diversity, holding cultural and ecological significance as an important protein source in Peru. However, most genetic studies in Pomacea have focused mostly on invasive species, especially in Southeast Asia, where they are considered important pests. In this study, we assembled and annotated the mitochondrial genomes of two Pomacea species native to the Peruvian Amazon: Pomacea reevei Ampuero & Ramírez, 2023 and Pomacea aulanieri (Deville & Hupé, 1850). The mitogenomes of P. reevei and P. aulanieri comprise 15,660 and 16,096 bp, respectively, and contain the typical 37 genes of the animal mitochondria with a large control region of 292 bp in P. reevei and 524 bp in P. aulanieri-which fall within the range of what is currently known in Pomacea. Comparisons with previously published mitogenomes in Pomacea revealed differences in the overlapping of adjacent genes, the size of certain protein-coding genes (PCGs) and the secondary structure of some tRNAs that are consistent with the phylogenetic relationships between these species. These findings provide valuable insights into the systematics and genomics of the genus Pomacea.

Abstract The Pleurobranchida are sea slugs that group around 100 species distributed in the seas worldwide, but with a greater diversity in tropical and temperate coastal environments. In the Eastern Pacific, 2 families, 4 genera and more than 10 species of Pleurobranchida have been reported. The species Berthellina ilisima Marcus & Marcus 1967 common in the Eastern Tropical Pacific Province is formally recorded in coastal waters of Tumbes, Peru. The anatomy of the digestive, circulatory, reproductive and nervous systems of B. ilisima is described, which constitutes the first description of the internal anatomy of a Pleurobranchida for Peru.

RESUMO

During the past century eight species of sea hares of the genus Aplysia were recorded from Peru. However, there is disagreement about how many of these species are valid and their taxonomy needs to be critically evaluated. Based on detailed morphological examinations, this study presents a redescription of Aplysia nigra d'Orbigny, 1837 and Aplysia inca d'Orbigny, 1837, the most common species of Aplysia along the Peruvian coast. They showed consistent morphological differences, mainly in the foot, parapodia development, opaline gland, jaws, radular teeth and penial morphology. Anatomical data for both species are provided for the first time, as well as a comparison with other species of Aplysia reported for the Eastern Pacific. The records of Aplysia keraudreni Rang, 1828, Aplysia dactylomela Rang, 1828 and Aplysia juliana Quoy & Gaimard, 1832 for Peruvian waters are likely erroneous and need to be verified based on collected specimens.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: This study investigated the safety and clinical activity of lumretuzumab, a humanised antihuman epidermal growth factor receptor 3 (HER3) monoclonal antibody, in combination with carboplatin and paclitaxel in first-line treatment of patients with squamous non-small cell lung cancer (sqNSCLC). HER3 ligand heregulin and HER3 protein expression were evaluated as potential biomarkers of clinical activity. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This open-label, phase Ib/II study enrolled patients receiving lumretuzumab at 800 mg (flat) in combination with carboplatin (area under the curve (AUC) 6 mg/mL×min) and paclitaxel (200 mg/m2) administered intravenously on a every 3-week schedule. Adverse event (AE) rates and tumour responses were determined. Heregulin messenger RNA (mRNA) and HER3 protein expression were investigated in archival tumour biopsies. RESULTS: Altogether, 12 patients received lumretuzumab in combination with carboplatin and paclitaxel. The most frequent AEs were gastrointestinal, haematological and nervous system toxicities, which were generally mild and manageable. Partial responses were observed in 3 of 12 patients lasting 81, 177 and 207 days. All responses were achieved in tumours expressing higher heregulin mRNA levels. CONCLUSION: Lumretuzumab in combination with carboplatin and paclitaxel was well tolerated. Objective responses were enriched in tumours expressing higher heregulin mRNA levels.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The increasing incidence and poor outcome associated with MPM requires finding effective treatment for this disease. PD1/PD-L1 pathway plays a central role in tumor immune evasion and appears to be predictive and prognostic marker. PD-L1 is expressed in many different human cancers but its role in MPM has yet to be established. The aim of this study is to evaluate the expression of PD-L1 in MPM. METHODS: 119 MPM patients (p) from two institutions between November 2002 and February 2014 were reviewed. Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue was stained with anti-PD-L1 (clone E1L3N). Cases showing more than 1% of tumor cells expression of PD-L1 were considered positive. RESULTS: PD-L1 was analyzed in 77 p with tumor tissue available and was positive in 20.7% p (14 samples in membrane, 16 in cytoplasm and 4 in immune infiltrate). PD-L1 intensity was weak in 56.2%, moderate in 25% and strong in 18.7% p. There was a significant relationship between PD-L1 expression and histology (PD-L1 expression 37.5% in no-epithelioid tumor and 13.2% in epithelioid; p=0.033). The median survival in p PD-L1 positive was 4.79 vs 16.3 months in p PD-L1 negative (p=0.012). CONCLUSIONS: We have shown PD-L1 is expressed in 20% of patients, associated with no epithelioid histology and poor prognostic in MPM. Our results suggest PD-L1 warrants further exploration in selecting p for immunotherapy.
