RESUMO

Phylogenetic and chemotaxonomic analyses of Pelczaria aurantia ATCC 49321T (= DSM 12801T) indicate that this species is very closely related to Kocuria rosea. The DNA-DNA reassociation value of 87.1% determined for the type strains of the two species supports this finding. The results of phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rDNA of a subculture of the original strain of Pelczaria aurantia, deposited at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD, USA, as 'Neisseria aurantia', are identical to those for strain ATCC 49321T and indicate that Pelczaria aurantia ATCC 49321T is an authentic subculture of the original culture described by Poston (1993). On the basis of these findings it is concluded that P. aurantia ATCC 49321T and K. rosea DSM 20447T are members of the same taxon. The taxonomic consequences of this union are discussed.

RESUMO

Chemotaxonomic and 16S rRNA gene sequence analyses of four bacterial strains isolated from clinical material clearly demonstrated that these bacteria belong to the genus Nocardia. DNA-DNA hybridization data as well as the physiological characteristics of the isolates indicated that they are closely related and belong to a single species that differs from previously described members of the genus. The name Nocardia abscessus sp. nov. is proposed for these organisms represented by strain IMMIB D-1592T (= DSM 44432T). Strain IMMIB D-1592T exhibits 56.8 and 60.0% DNA-DNA relatedness to Nocardia asteroides ATCC 19247T and Nocardia paucivorans DSM 44386T, respectively.

RESUMO

A new strictly anaerobic, alkaliphilic, moderately thermophilic, fermentative, spore-forming bacterium, strain K1T, was isolated from manure samples (pH 6-8). Cells were Gram-positive, straight, non-motile rods that grew at temperatures of 37-66 degrees C (optimum at 62 degrees C) and in a pH range of 8.0-10.5 (optimum at 9.5-9.7). The bacterium fermented D-glucose, sucrose, D-fructose, D-trehalose and starch as carbon and energy sources. It required vitamins and its growth is stimulated by yeast extract. The major metabolic products were H2 and acetate. Cells were catalase-negative and could reduce nitrate to nitrite. The G+C content of the DNA was 42.2 mol%. Based on the phenotypic properties and 16S rDNA sequencing and DNA-DNA hybridization data, strain K1T (= DSM 12423T = ATCC 700785T = VKM B-2193T) was assigned to the new genus Anoxybacillus gen. nov., as a representative of a new species, Anoxybacillus pushchinensis sp. nov. 'Bacillus flavothermus' strain d.y., which was found to be closely related to strain K1T, is described as Anoxybacillus flavithermus comb. nov. (type strain = d.y.T = DSM 2641T).

RESUMO

The phylogenetic relationships of the type strains of 38 species from 15 genera of the family Enterobacteriaceae were investigated by comparative 16S rDNA analysis. Several sequences of strains from the genera Citrobacter, Erwinia, Pantoea, Proteus, Rahnella and Serratia, analysed in this study, have been analysed previously. However, as the sequences of this study differ slightly from the published ones, they were included in the analysis. Of the 23 enterobacterial genera included in an overview dendrogram of relatedness, members of the genera Xenorhabdus, Photorhabdus, Proteus and Plesiomonas were used as a root. The other genera formed two groups which could be separated, although not exclusively, by signature nucleotides at positions 590-649 and 600-638. Group A contains species of Brenneria, Buttiauxella, Citrobacter, Escherichia, Erwinia, Klebsiella, Pantoea, Pectobacterium and Salmonella. All seven type strains of Buttiauxella share 16S rDNA similarities greater than 99%. Group B embraces two phylogenetically separate Serratia clusters, a lineage containing Yersinia species, Rahnella aquatica, Ewingella americana, and also the highly related pair Hafnia alvei and Obesumbacterium proteus.
