RESUMO

The present study attempts to decipher the seasonal variations in hydro-geochemistry of groundwater in the Terekhol River Basin, western coastal region, Maharashtra, India. A total of 65 groundwater samples of post-monsoon (POMS) and pre-monsoon (PRMS) seasons were collected and analyzed for major ion composition using standard analytical procedures of APHA. Piper and Gibbs plots is used to elucidate the controlling factors which altering the groundwater composition. Scatter plots of ions indicate that major ions from lithologies exposed in the study area and anthropogenic activities are altering the groundwater chemistry. Statistical analysis includes correlation, factor analysis and cluster analysis used to interpret the hydrochemical data. As compared to the WHO drinking standards, all the groundwater samples are fit for drinking. Irrigation water suitability was ascertained based on SAR, %Na and KR indices. Overall, the groundwater chemistry in study area is reflects changes in natural processes rather than anthropogenic inputs.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Desmoplastic Ameloblastoma (DA) is a rare, true neoplasm of jaws with reported incidence of 4-13% among other variants of Ameloblastoma, however this appears distinct than the classic Ameloblastoma in anatomical distribution and clinical presentation. This is often mistaken as a fibro-osseous lesion because of its similar radiological appearance. MATERIAL AND METHODS: To describe the clinical, radiographic and histopathological characteristics through a series of new cases of histologically proven DA including a case of an exceptionally large, recurrent lesion along with retrospective analysis of cases from literature available for an improved understanding of the behaviour and prognosis of DA. A total of 50 cases were analysed for the anatomical distribution, radiographic presentation and management. Out of the 50 cases, 47 cases were from the English literature reported from 2011 to 2019 and 3 were new cases. RESULTS: DA showed a slight male predilection (male: female=1.17:1) with a predominance in the fourth and fifth decade of life. Mandibular involvement (52%) was more commonly seen with a marked tendency for the anterior region. Radiographically, most of the lesions presented mixed radiopacity with radiolucency(80%) and root displacement was observed in only 70.27 % cases. Recurrence rate of 26 .47 % was observed. Cases treated with resection resulted in lesser recurrence as compared to those treated with enucleation and curettage. CONCLUSIONS: DA is distinguished by a peculiar display of clinicalopathological parameters. DA has tendency of local disposition and propensity of recurrence, which thus necessitates its aggressive management. It is not possible to conclude or report on the aggressive/recurrent nature and appropriate treatment modality for DA due to inadequate follow-up results.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: G-quadruplex structures formed in telomeres and proto-oncogene represent a potentially useful target for anticancer drugs. Stabilization of this arrangement may inhibit the further action of different enzymes involved in cancer cell immortalization. In present work structure based drug design and synthesis was carried out on series of meso-substituted porphyrin analogues. The interaction of porphyrin derivatives with G-quadruplex DNA has been explored by virtual screening procedure. Some of the potential binding agents were then synthesized and evaluated in-vitro by MTT and PCR stop assay. The study indicates that these compounds had strong G-Quadruplex binding affinity with very good inhibitory activity in MCF-7 and A549 cell lines.

RESUMO

This paper deals with the characteristics and composition of municipal solid waste (MSW) generated in Sangamner city. The composition of solid waste was studied by segregating it into different component, i.e., kitchen waste, paper, earth and fine material, slaughter house waste, leaves, metals, etc. These components were categorised into organic waste and inorganic waste. It was observed that Sangamner city produces around 61% organic waste, and the rest is inorganic waste. The characteristics of organic solid waste, i.e., pH, electrical conductivity, moisture content, organic carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium were evaluated. The analysis of organic content of MSW indicates that it is good source of nutrients for the agriculture sector whereas inorganic material can be used for landfill.

RESUMO

A rapid and sensitive reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatographic method is developed for simultaneous estimation of fluconazole, an orally active triazole anti-fungal agent, and tinidazole, which belongs to the group of 5-nitroimidazoles in combined dose tablet. Chromatographic separation was on an ODS Hypersil C(18) column using 0.05 M potassium dihydrogen phosphate buffer (pH 3.25, adjusted with orthophosphoric acid) and acetonitrile (82:18, v/v) as the mobile phase at a flow rate of 1.5 mL/min with detection at 210 nm. The asymmetry factors are 1.36 +/- 0.04 for fluconazole and 1.26 +/- 0.07 for tinidazole with a total run time of less than 7 min. The calibration curves were linear in the range 6-14 microg/mL for fluconazole and 80-190 microg/mL for tinidazole. The method was validated with respect to linearity, precision, accuracy, and specificity. The mean recovery for fluconazole and tinidazole is 99.65 +/- 0.84 and 99.34 +/- 0.70, respectively. The utility of the procedure is verified by its application to the market formulation that was subjected to various stressed conditions. Two potential degradation products of tinidazole on exposure to alkaline stressed condition are well-resolved. The method separated the two target drugs and degradation products well. No chromatographic interference is observed.

RESUMO

An estimated 25 million Indians currently have diabetes and the projections indicate Indians would be the largest group by the year 2025 AD. An open, phase III, multicentric study was conducted to determine the efficacy and tolerability of the triple drug combination glimepiride 2 mg plus pioglitazone hydrochloride 15 mg plus metformin SR 500 mg for 8 weeks in 101 Indian patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The study revealed that the triple drug combination could achieve the recommended goals, recommended by American Diabetic Association, for fasting blood glucose < or = 140 mg/dl and glycosylated haemoglobin (HbA1c) of < or = 8%. After 8 weeks, the mean fasting blood glucose (baseline 189.61) was reduced to 111.68 (41% reduction); the mean glycosylated haemoglobin (baseline 10.32) was significantly reduced to 7.54 (26% reduction). The triple drug combination significantly reduced the levels of triglyceride, low density lipoproteins and total cholesterol. These significant levels were achieved within 8 weeks and all patients tolerated the drug well with no reported case of serious adverse events including hypoglycaemia. There were also no reported drug interactions in the study. Since the decrease in HbA1c was continuous and throughout the study, a further decrease in the HbA1c levels would have been noted since the present trial was designed for a period of 8 weeks. Thus, the present study confirms the efficacy and safety of FDC of the triple drug combination in patients with type 2 diabetes.
