RESUMO

HPV belongs to a family of tumorigenic viruses and induces cutaneous and mucosal proliferation of epithelial cells (papillomas, condylomas, warts). The abnormality accumulation of p53 protein appears to be a common step in the development of many human cancers and has been frequently reports in human cancers including head and neck. The aim of this study was to examine HPV infection incidents and p53 alteration in oral papillomas. HPV was detected by PCR, p53 accumulation by immunohistochemical detection. The overexpression of p53 was revealed in 20 cases (55%) out of 36 papillomas. We found p53 overexpression in 8 out of 13 HPV positive papillomas (61.5%) and in 12 out of 23 HPV negative papillomas (52%). Our findings indicate that HPV infection and/or changes in p53 protein coexist in oral cavity papillomas.

RESUMO

Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is one of the risk factors contributing to the pathogenesis of lung cancer. The aim of the study was to determine the presence of HPV in non-small cell carcinomas of the lung. The study included 40 tumors: 22 squamous cell carcinomas, 13 adenocarcinomas and 5 large cell carcinomas. HPV was found in 4 cases (10%). High risk HPV was present in 3 tumors: in one squamous cell carcinoma, one large cell carcinoma and one adenocarcinoma, while low risk HPV was detected in one adenocarcinoma.

RESUMO

The oral cavity is exposed to many harmful factors among others: tobacco, alcohol and viral infection e.g. human papillomaviruses (HPV). HPV belongs to a family of tumorigenic viruses and induces cutaneous and mucosal proliferations of epithelial cells. The aim of our study was to estimate the frequency of HPV occurrence in papillomas of oral cavity in the Podlasie region. The study included 38 papillomas of oral cavity. HPV was found in 14 cases (36.8%). High risk HPV was present in 12 papillomas, while low risk HPV was detected in 2 papillomas.
