RESUMO

The use of machine learning algorithms (ML) in radiotherapy is becoming increasingly popular. More and more groups are trying to apply ML in predicting the so-called gamma passing rate (GPR). Our team has developed a customized approach of using ML algorithms to predict global GPR for electronic portal imaging device (EPID) verification for dose different 2% and distance to agreement 2 mm criteria for VMAT dynamic plans. Plans will pass if the GPR is greater than 98%. The algorithm was learned and tested on anonymized clinical data from 13 months which resulted in more than 3000 treatment plans. The obtained results of GPR prediction are very interesting. Average specificity of the algorithm based on an ensemble of 50 decision tree regressors is 91.6% for our criteria. As a result, we can reduce the verification process by 50%. The novel approach described by our team can offer a new insight into the application of ML and neural networks in GPR prediction and dosimetry.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The variety of dysfunctions in bipolar disorder (BD) affects patients' perceptions of the diagnosis, acceptance, and illness. Treatment of people with BD includes pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy. Maintaining long-term therapy is difficult, related to the patients' overall approach to health. The aim was to assess health attitudes in people with BD treated with different mood stabilizers. PARTICIPANTS AND PROCEDURE: The study group included 40 patients diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Participants were divided into two groups depending on the medication taken: a group taking lithium (n = 20) and a group not taking lithium, treated with other drugs (n = 20). The respondents were measured with psychological tests - Addenbrooke's Cognitive Examination, Illness Acceptance Scale, Health Behavior Inventory, and Coping Inventory in Crisis Situations. RESULTS: 85% of the respondents stopped taking medication at least once without the doctor's knowledge. People taking lithium had a significantly lower acceptance of the disease (t = -2.27, p = .015). The study groups did not differ in terms of coping with stress and health behaviors. The correlation analysis indicated that the acceptance of disease and health behaviors are significantly associated with selected coping strategies. CONCLUSIONS: Attitudes towards health, understood as acceptance of the disease, coping with stress, and health behaviors are average. It is advisable to develop an optimal approach to activities connected with the daily health maintenance of the patients in order to better cope with the disease and its symptoms.

RESUMO

Glass-ceramics with the composition B2O3-Bi2O3-SrF2 were synthesized by the conventional melt-quenching technique and subsequent crystallization of the parental glasses. The temperature at which the ceramization was carried out was selected based on differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis. The structure of the studied materials and the formation of SrF2 nanocrystals were confirmed by the Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) techniques. It was found that the amount of strontium fluoride introduced into the parental borate-bismuth glass has a significant impact on the growth of SrF2 nanocrystals. In particular, the influence of the crystalline SrF2 phase on luminescence intensity and kinetics was studied using Eu2O3-doped samples. An increase in luminescence intensity was observed in the samples in which SrF2 nanocrystals were formed. This is most likely related to the fact that some of the Eu3+ ions were (after annealing of the glass) located in the crystalline structure of strontium fluoride. This was confirmed both by the luminescence lifetime obtained based on the luminescence decay curves and the calculated Judd-Ofelt parameters, Ω2 and Ω4. The results achieved confirm that the glasses and glass-ceramics described in this work could be considered as a new phosphor for light-emitting diodes (LEDs).

RESUMO

This paper demonstrates the assessment of vibrational spectroscopy methods such as middle infrared, near infrared and Raman spectroscopy (FTIR, FT-NIR, Raman) for the identification of pseudopolymorphic forms of a model active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) - sodium naproxen (NpxNa). NpxNa, in the form of three different pseudopolymorphs, was investigated by methods dedicated for solid state characterization: DSC (differential scanning calorimetry), XPRD (powder X-ray diffraction), SEM (scanning electron microscopy) and Karl Fischer titration. Novelty in the results sourced in the usage of the method not applied so far to identify pseudopolymorphic forms of NpxNa, that is, FTIR and FT-NIR. Based on the obtained reproduceable results, various pseudopolymorphic forms were successfully evaluated. Spectroscopic data were correlated with DSC and XPRD results. It was concluded that the combination of band's variations visible on the spectra of pseudopolymorphic forms will allow to interpretate the results unequivocally in case of crucial stability tests of medicinal substance or during on-line pharmaceutical process development by FTIR, FT-NIR and Raman spectroscopy.

RESUMO

The usage of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, near infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry and microscopy is presented in this work focused on the exploration of the effect of CD on the physical stability of famotidine (FAM). The most significant information was achieved by analysis of the second derivatives of near infrared (NIR) spectra recorded. Changes in the shape of spectra derivatives allow to observe the improvement of physical stability of FAM with the usage of various supramolecular systems based on ß-cyclodextrin (CD) derivatives. The comparison was performed with the usage of maltodextrin in FAM mixtures. We found out that ß-cyclodextrin derivatives in the form of physical mixture and inclusion complexes successfully increased the physical stability of famotidine in solid state while maltodextrin does not show positive effect in imparting physical stability to famotidine.
