RESUMO

The pool of free amino acids (AAs) in the blood serum was studied in two European migratory bat species, Vespertilio murinus and Pipistrellus nathusii, of the Urals. Bats from this year's bloods were examined, and significant differences were observed in main metabolic groups of free AAs, including glycogenic (GGAAs), nonessential (NEAAs), essential (EAAs), and sulfur-containing (SCAAs) AAs (p < 0.05). Based on the percent content of the metabolic groups in the total AA pool, GGAAs (79.7%) and EAAs (49.4%) were found to predominate in P. nathusii, and GGAAs (74.9%) and NEAAs (58.4%), in V. murinus. No difference in AAA and BCAA contents was observed between V. murinus and P. nathusii (p > 0.05). The migratory species were shown to significantly differ in the metabolic groups of serum AAs from the resident species Myotis dasycneme (p < 0.05).

RESUMO

The review provides an analysis of literature data on the persistent form of Bovine Viral diarrhea/Mucosal disease (BVD) and is focused on virus and host factors, including those related to immune response, that contribute the persistence of the virus. BVD is a cattle disease widespread throughout the world that causes significant economic damage to dairy and beef cattle. The disease is characterized by a variety of clinical signs, including damage to the digestive and respiratory organs, abortions, stillbirths and other failures of reproductive functions.

RESUMO

Immunohematological parameters were for the first time studied in the pond bat Myotis dasycneme (Boie, 1825), the most common chiropteran species in the Urals, during seasonal periods of the annual life cycle. Multivariate nonparametric analysis of variance showed the absence of significant gender differences in red blood cell parameters (p = 0.35). Gender differences were observed in the counts of white blood cells, band neutrophils, segments neutrophils, and lymphocytes in the blood (p < 0.05). Males showed a higher development of innate immunity in summer compared with females (p < 0.05). A high lymphocyte level (50.6-53.5%) was observed in both males and females in the autumn-winter hibernation period, providing immune surveillance and specific reactive activation of the acquired adaptive immune response.

RESUMO

Functional activity of the blood system was studied in two migratory Ural species, Vespertilio murinus Linnaeus, 1758 and Pipistrellus nathusii Keyserling et Blasius, 1839. A multivariate nonparametric ANOVA of red blood parameters showed significant interspecific differences (p < 0.05) between the migrating bats and the resident species pond bat. A certain genetically determined multidirectionality in the mobilization of emergency regulation mechanisms of the lymphoid blood system was observed in bats.

RESUMO

A comparative analysis of hematological parameters was for the first time performed in two ectothermal amphibians of the Middle Ural fauna, the Siberian salamander Salamandrella keyserlingii and lake frog Pelophylax ridibundиs. Species specificity of immune defense was demonstrated with respect to granulocyte and agranulocyte counts (p < 0.001). A high lymphocyte content (73.3-76.1%) of provides for the activation of acquired adaptive immunity mechanisms in the thermophilic lake frog. The Siberian salamander is adapted to low negative temperatures and has a set of nonspecific leukocytes (39.3-44.4%). Innate immunity is better developed in the Siberian salamander compared with the lake frog.

RESUMO

A comparative analysis of the content of free amino acids in the blood plasma of a representative of the bat fauna of the Urals, Myotis dasycneme (Boie, 1825), in seasonal periods of their annual life cycle is presented for the first time. The blood plasma of the pond bats contains a full spectrum of essential amino acids: threonine, valine, lysine, leucine, isoleucine, methionine, phenylalanine, arginine, histidine, and tryptophan. A significant accumulation of metabolically active glucoplastic alanine in the blood of M. dasycneme in the autumn (2.5 times) and winter (2.2 times) periods indicates its role as a low-temperature adaptogen.

RESUMO

The results of the first comparative analysis of hematological parameters of bats from natural populations of the Ural region are presented: the pond bat (Myotis dasycneme Boie, 1825), which is a resident species, and the two-colored bat (Vespertilio murinus Linnaeus, 1758), which is a migratory species. Significant differences in the content of white blood cells (p = 0.05), red blood cells and platelets (p = 0.001) were shown. Interspecific differences were found in the leukograms of the studied bats both in the content of granulocytes (p = 0.04) and agranulocytes (p = 0.05). Migrating V. murinus are characterized by a significant contribution of the nonspecific protective system of the blood (54.9%) to the adaptive reactions of the body. In the pond bat, a pronounced lymphocytic profile (58.5%) indicates the activation of acquired adaptive immunity. Two-colored bats in comparison with pond bats are characterized by a higher level of innate immunity.

RESUMO

The article presents a brief review of the literature on the anatomy and physiology of the round window (RW) niche, the causes of occlusion, the diagnosis of this pathology, the features of auditory disorders and tactics when it is detected in patients with otosclerosis (OS). A clinical case of diagnosis and effective surgical treatment for obliteration of RW in a patient with advanced OS, which occurred in 2019 in 0.7% of cases, is described. Removal of RW niche obliteration was carried out with a curette and microcresis by smoothing the canopy over RW until partial visualization of the secondary membrane. It was this stage of the operation that made it possible to restore the normal hydrodynamics of the inner ear fluids and contributed to a functional result. Thus, the diagnosis of RW obliteration in patients with OS is difficult, but possible when using computed tomography of the temporal bones and assessing the mobility of the RW membrane or analyzing changes in hearing at the end of the operation, if it is performed under local anesthesia. The simultaneous performance of stapedoplasty and the removal of bone obliteration of RW makes it possible to safely achieve functional rehabilitation in patients with OS.

RESUMO

The work assessed modern methods of drug delivery through biological barriers to the lesion, in particular, through the most studied - skin. The main advantages and disadvantages of the existing methods for the topical administration of drugs into the inner ear - intra-imperial and intra-labyrinth delivery are analyzed. A brief review of medicinal substances for topical administration to the inner ear, both widely used (for example, aminoglycosides, steroid drugs) and undergoing clinical trials, is given. An assessment is made of the prospects for the use of transmembrane drug delivery to the inner ear using an electric field, which has a combined electro-creative and iontophoretic effect.

RESUMO

This article was designed to report a clinical case of an acute acoustic injury inflicted by a discharge of the lightning ball during the early postoperative period in a female patient following surgical stapedoplasty. The acoustic impact resulted in a marked deterioration of hearing in the operated ear with simultaneous elevation of the threshold of bone sound conduction to above the preoperative value. It is concluded that the patients who had undergone the stapedoplastic surgical intervention should be advised to avoid strong acoustic impacts during the postoperative period.

RESUMO

The purpose of the study was to determine appropriate diagnostic, therapeutic and rehabilitation treatments of patients with military-related craniocereberal trauma. We have examined 180 male patients: 100 participant of operations in the Democratic Republic Afghanistan (1979-1989) and 80 - participants of conflict in the east of Ukraine (from 2014 until present) with military-related craniocereberal trauma of varying severity. We used clinical-neurological, instrumental (craniography of skull, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasonic doppler sonography of the main vessels of the head and neck), biochemical, statistical methods of a research, and also questionnaire scale SF-36. It was found that the quality of life of patients with military-related craniocereberal trauma depends on the severity of the wound and the period after trauma. In the early period after military-related craniocereberal trauma of light or average severity, the psychological components are more strongly manifested. Patients with severe military-related craniocereberal trauma have serious physical, psychological and social problems at different periods after trauma. The results of the research show that the quality of life depends on the severity of functional disorders and have impact on adaptive potential of the organism.

RESUMO

The results of the systemic antimicrobials (AM) consumption and expenditures assessment in the departments of surgery of multi-profile hospitals in different regions of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus in 2009-2010 based on retrospective collection and analysis of the data from the hospital expenditure notes using ATC/DDD methodology are presented. The average AM consumption and expenditure rates in the above mentioned departments varied from 24.9 DDD/100 bed-days to 61.7 DDD/100 bed-days depending on the department profile, with beta-lactams (cephalosporins and penicillins) share in the consumption being as high as 70-90%, followed by fluoroquinolones and aminoglycosides. Only 55-70% of the consumed AM belonged to the drugs of choice, whereas the improper AM consumption and expenditure rates amounted up to 10-18%. The study outputs can be used for the budget allocation and AM distribution improvement in the departments of surgery, as well as for the development and efficacy control of the local antimicrobial stewardship programs.

RESUMO

The objective of the present study was to elucidate the topographic features of the nerve fibers belonging to the acoustic and vestibular analyzers located in the intracranial cranial segment of human vestibulocochlear nerve (VCN). A total of 16 samples of the intracranial cranial segment of the human vestibulocochlear nerve isolated from the region enclosed between the exit of VCN from the brainstem and its entrance into the internal acoustic meatus were available for the investigation. Prior to fixation of the samples, the VCN segments were marked in correspondence with their intravital anatomical location in the posterior cranial fossa. Cross sections of the PCN segments were stained with hematoxylin and eosin as well as according to the van-Hison method. The cross sections were made either at the exit of the nerve from the brainstem (N1), its entrance into the internal acoustic meatus (N3) or in-between these sites (N2). The morphometric analysis of the sections and the statistical treatment of the data obtained were performed with the use of the Diamfor hardware and software complex («Diamfor¼, Russia). The digitized images of the PCN sections were prepared using amVizo 103 microvisor (Russia). It was shown that the intracranial segment of the human vestibulocochlear nerve consists of two isolated groups of nerve fibers differing in terms of staining density, size, and the degree of myelinization. The mutual location of the fibers forming the cochlear and vestibular nuclei (CN and VN respectively) varies. Namely, CN near the internal acoustic foramen occupies the antero-posterior position with respect to VN. In the middle part of VCN, CN-forming fibers are located at the anetro-inferoposterior surface of the nerve. The nerve fibers of both CN and VN are similarly arranged near the lateral surface of the brain stem.
