RESUMO

A 56-year-old woman. She was underwent a lower gastrointestinal endoscopy for bloody stool, and type 2 advanced rectal cancer was found. In CT scan, although distant metastasis is not found, the tumor has been expanded to the dorsal side. So, infiltration into the sacrum was suspected. For the risk of bleeding and residual tumor in circumferential resection surface, it was decided to perform pre-operative adjuvant chemotherapy. Because RAS gene has no mutation, the regimen chose CAPOX plus cetuximab. Although skin damage and cytopenia were observed, there was no appearance of adverse events that were intolerant, and 4 courses were performed. Although scar stenosis was observed in the endoscope after 4 courses, tumor size decreased. Even in CT, the wall thickening was significantly reduced, and progress to the tumor dorsal side was also reduced, so laparoscopic lower anterior resection was performed. During surgery, the tumor dorsal side sacral infiltration was suspected, although observed a sclerotic change, it is relatively easily peelable, it was possible to safely complete the laparoscopic operation. Even after the operation, the course was good, and it was discharged from the hospital lightly on the 12th day after the operation. In pathological diagnosis, medium-differentiated adenocarcinoma, T3, N0, histological therapeutic effect of chemotherapy was grade 2. Cetuximab combination regimen was considered to be an effective option.

RESUMO

A 50-year-old male was referred to our hospital for the further evaluation and treatment of abdominal pain. He was diagnosed with complicated appendicitis using computed tomography. After conservative treatment, he underwent an interval appendectomy. A histopathological examination revealed a goblet cell carcinoid(GCC)of the appendix with subserosal invasion. He underwent laparoscopic ileocecal resection with D3 lymph node dissection. Histopathological findings showed neither residual tumor nor lymph node metastasis. The patients is currently followed as an outpatient without recurrence. Here we report our experience with GCC, a rare disease.

RESUMO

D-amino acid oxidase (DAO) is a flavoenzyme catalyzing the oxidation of D-amino acid (AA)s. In the kidney, its expression is detected in proximal tubules, and DAO is considered to play a role in the conversion of D-form AAs to α-keto acids. LLC-PK1 cells, a pig renal proximal tubule cell line, were used to elucidate the regulation of DAO protein synthesis and degradation. In this study, we showed that trypsinization of LLC-PK1 cells in culture system rapidly reduced the intracellular DAO protein level to ∼33.9% of that before treatment, even within 30 min. Furthermore, we observed that the DAO protein level was decreased when LLC-PK1 cells were subjected to AA starvation. To determine the degradation pathway, we treated the cells with chloroquine and MG132. DAO degradation was found to be inhibited by chloroquine, but not by MG132 treatment. We next examined whether or not DAO was degraded by autophagy. We found that AA starvation led to an increased accumulation of LC3-II, suggesting that DAO protein is degraded by autophagy due to AA starvation conditions. Furthermore, treatment with cycloheximide inhibited DAO protein degradation. Taken together, DAO protein is degraded by autophagy under starvation. The present study revealed the potential dynamics of DAO correlated with renal pathophysiology.

RESUMO

We have investigated drying of water droplets stabilized by solid particles or surfactant molecules in a thin oil layer. The surfactant-stabilized droplets isotropically shrink, whereas the droplets stabilized by spherical particles severely deform during drying because of buckling of the particulate shells. However, buckling of the shells hardly affects droplet drying. The drying times for complete evaporation are almost the same for water droplets with the same initial diameter and the drying time is independent of the type of surface stabilizer (particles or surfactant). The drying kinetics of the water droplets is well described by mathematical models, in which diffusion of water molecules in the oil phase to the oil-air interface is proposed as the rate-determining process. Droplets with a diameter comparable with the thickness of the oil layer shrink faster than small droplets because of the short diffusion length from the water droplets to the oil-air interface. We also investigated drying of water droplets stabilized by plate-like mica particles. The droplets also buckled but larger shells of mica particles remained compared with those of spherical particles. In addition, a longer drying time is necessary for some droplets stabilized by mica particles. These results indicate the possible effect of the particle morphology on the buckling and drying kinetics of particle-stabilized water droplets.

RESUMO

The Zn(6) cluster complex 2 of the trisaloph ligand was synthesized using EtCO(2)(-) anions as bridging ligands. Complex 2 has a dimeric structure in the crystalline state, while two monomeric isomers were in equilibrium in solution. The anion-exchange reaction successfully resulted in nuclearity control from Zn(7) to Zn(6).

RESUMO

A 36-membered macrocyclic hexaoxime was quantitatively obtained by [3 + 3] condensation of dialdehyde 2 with diamine 3 using La3+ (core metal) and Zn2+ (shell metal) as a novel core/shell template, while the yield was very low in the absence of the metal ions. The high yield can be attributed to the efficient formation of a 3:3:1 complex of dialdehyde 2, Zn2+, and La3+, which readily gives the macrocycle keeping the Zn3La core/shell tetranuclear cluster structure.
