RESUMO
Histological material from 26 patients with laryngeal carcinoma was studied after surgery, photon and remote neutron-photon irradiation. The number of telophases in dividing tumor cells after the mixed irradiation was 1.5-3 times lower as compared to the surgical treatment. This correlated with a significant decrease of the number of cells with high ploidy. It is suggested that the damage to cell cycle occurred after the spin formation, that the parameters studied are sensitive morphological criteria for the diagnosis and prognosis of the tumor cell fate.

The beneficial effect of low-energy laser radiation on the natural course of disease, morphologic characteristics of gastric mucosa and key elements of systemic hemostasis was observed in 98 patients with precancer of the stomach (gastric ulcer and chronic atrophic-hyperplastic gastritis with epithelial dysplasia). A correlation between clinical response and normalization of morphologic appearance and homeostasis makes the above-mentioned treatment modality promising and worth further development.

The paper is concerned with the clinical testing of irradiation fractionation in photon therapy, of which the optimum variant was worked out using a method of mathematical simulation. It was conducted in 30 patients with osteogenic sarcoma. In 5 cases a course of photon therapy was supplemented by neutron irradiation. Good tolerance of the proposed scheme by the patients, the absence of contraindications for its administration and marked antitumor efficacy were revealed. Radiation pathomorphism of osteogenic sarcoma after photon and neutron therapy was described.

The study included mast cell content assay in breast cancer stroma, free blood heparin measurement and its variation versus treatment and disease outcome. In clinically unfavorable cases, tumors displayed equal levels of mast cells whatever treatment procedure (surgery, chemotherapy + surgery). However, in patients with aggressive course, mast cell concentration decreased 3-fold following surgery whereas it rose significantly after combined therapy. In clinically favorable cases, free blood-heparin level was half the one in those with aggressive course.

A study was made of the effect of swine and bovine calcitrine (CT) on the reparation of irradiated maxillary osseous tissue in 240 rats using histological and histochemical methods. Both types of CT have shown a similar unidirectional effect: the weakening of post-irradiation resorption, the strengthening of osteogenesis, increased preservation of osteogenic cells, and the return of glycosoaminoglycan metabolism to normal. The efficacy of action of swine CT proved to be one order higher as compared to bovine. The authors are of opinion that the most rational dose of swine CT under the conditions of this experiment is 0.2 units/kg to stimulate a quickened method of bone formation. At the onset of treatment an elevation of the hormone dose with its gradual decrease to the optimum one is permissible.

Structure of the articular cartilage fibrous stroma in the mature rabbit femoral heads has been studied and described by means demasking of fibres, of electron microscopy and polarization microscopy. A new scheme on the articular cartilage fibrous stroma structure is suggested, which differs from that of Benninghoff. A single fibrous cartilage framework consists of, at least, three networks of fibres directed to different sides. The role of every stromal part is interpreted in the whole function of the tissue.

The data on electron microscopic studies of the main structural elements of the superficial layer of the articular cartilage are represented. The articular cartilage of the femoral lead in young rabbits has been studied. The articular cartilage has no ideal smooth surface but three are some pressings of different sizes. The most superficial cartilage layer--cell-free zone--consists of collagene fibers and hyaluronic fibrils which are closely connected with the ground substance of the cartilage. Superficial chondrocytes are mature, differentiated but functionally weakly active cells. Under normal conditions, destruction (obliteration) of the cell-free zone and desquamation of superficial cells are impossible.
