RESUMO

In this study, we aim to compare the climatic conditions of Surface Urban Heat Island (SUHI) in Tehran and its suburbs using day/night time data from three satellites. A high-resolution Land Surface Temperature (LST) data from MODIS Aqua, Sentinel-3, and Landsat 8 were selected to facilitate this study. The highest values of LST/UHI are observed in downtown Tehran and suburban areas at night. The temperature difference also shows an increase at night in Tehran and the western suburbs, while it decreases during the day. When comparing LST/UHI with altitude in different directions, it is found that urban areas and the south, southeast, southwest, and west suburban areas experience higher temperatures at night. MODIS LST products are more appropriate for checking nighttime SUHI in Tehran's Great area in comparison to other products. Moran's I indicates that the highest positive values occur during seasonal and annual periods at night. The Getis index demonstrates a consistent pattern across all seasons, and this trend persists throughout the year. The seasonal and annual UHI difference between Tehran and its suburbs is 5 °C. The LST diagram reveals that higher temperatures occur during warm months. The temporal NDVI distribution indicates lower NDVI values from June to February and summer to winter. The spatial distribution shows that due to the lack of NDVI index in urban areas, LST/UHI values are higher at night in Tehran compared to the suburbs. UHI is not limited to urban areas but has also spread beyond the city borders. As a result, the highest UHI values are found in downtown Tehran and its southeast, south, southwest, and west suburbs.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Probiotics are live microorganisms that, when administered in appropriate colonies, can delay the destruction of the immune system and contribute to the maintenance of immunity in HIV patients. Probiotics play an important role in stimulating natural killer T cells, strengthening the functional gut barrier, and reducing systemic inflammation. METHODS: This study was a randomized double-blind clinical trial involving 30 patients treated with antiretroviral therapy who had experienced immunological failure despite HIV viral suppression. Patients were divided into two equal groups of 15, group (B) received two probiotic capsules daily with a colony count of 109 CFU per capsule containing seven strains, after 3 months they were examined for CD4+ counts by flow cytometry, and after a 1-month washout period the participants who had received probiotics were switched to placebo, and the participants who had received placebo were given probiotics for 3 months, and they were examined for CD4+ counts 7 months after the start of the study. RESULTS: In the first group (A), administration of the placebo resulted in a decrease in CD4 count in the first 3 months (from 202.21 to 181.79, p value < .001), which may be due to the natural history of the disease. After probiotics administration, CD4 count increased significantly (from 181.79 to 243.86, p value < .001). Overall, after 7 months of study, there was a significant increase in the mean CD count from 202.21 to 243.86 (p value < .001). In the second group (B), the administration of probiotics in the first 3 months of the study resulted in a significant increase in the mean CD4 count (from 126.45 to 175.73, p value < .001). Termination of treatment with probiotics resulted in a significant decrease (from 175.73 to 138.9, p value < .001) but overall the CD4 count at the end of the study was significantly higher than at baseline (p value < .001).

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Peripheral T-Cell Lymphoma Not Otherwise Specified (PTCL-NOS) is a rare type of non-Hodgkin T-cell lymphoma which frequently seen in immunocompromised individuals. It is estimated that only 2% of lymphomas are located on the buccal mucosa. In this case report, we present a 34-year-old male with a PTCL diagnosis. CASE: A 34-year-old immune-competent male presented with a buccal progressive ulcerated lesion. Histopathologic and immunohistochemical findings were compatible with PTCL-NOS and classified as stage IIEA according to the Ann Arbor staging. The patient underwent chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy. He remained disease-free after 12 months of follow-up. CONCLUSION: Although lymphoma is uncommon in the oral cavity, physicians especially dentists in ordinary dental checkups should consider persistent progressive lesions as an important differential diagnosis of lymphoma.

RESUMO

Paying attention to human activities in terms of land grazing infrastructure, crops, forest products, and carbon impact, the so-called ecological impact (EF) is one of the most important economic issues in the world. For the present study, global database data were used. The ability of the penalized regression (RR) approaches (including Ridge, Lasso and Elastic Net) and artificial neural network (ANN) to predict EF indices in the G-20 countries over the past two decades (1999-2018) was illustrated and compared. For this purpose, 10-fold cross-validation was used to evaluate the predictive performance and determine the penalty parameter for PR models. According to the results, the predictive performance compared to linear regression improved somewhat using the penalized methods. Using the elastic net model, more global macro indices were selected than Lasso. Although Lasso selected only a few indicators, it had better predictive performance among PR ns models. In addition to relative improvement in the predictive performance of PR methods, their interest in selecting a subset of indicators by shrinking coefficients and creating a parsimonious model was evident and significant. As a result, PR methods would be preferred, using variable selection and interpretive considerations to predictive performance alone. On the other hand, ANN models with higher determination coefficients (R2) and lower RMSE values performed significantly better than PR and OLS and showed that they were more accurate in predicting EF. Therefore, ANN could provide considerable and appropriate predictions for EF indicators in the G-20 countries.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH) is a benign rare liver neoplasm in children and includes only 2% of all pediatric liver tumors. Here we reported the case of a 14-year-old girl with vague flank pain who was managed conservatively. CASE PRESENTATION: Our case is a 14-year-old child (female), with a 5 cm diameter lesion in the right lobe of the liver in CT scan, and histologic findings compatible with FNH. A solid mass lobulated contour, intense enhancement with a hypodense central area, possibly indicative of central scar, was seen. Despite her mild flank pain we did not insist on surgical resection and managed her conservatively. Her pain resolved 2 weeks later and an imaging follow-up with ultrasound 6 months later showed no increase in size or numbers. CONCLUSION: FNH is an uncommon mass lesion in children. Our patient had mild symptomatic severity, and several guidelines recommend surgical treatment in this condition, but our team performed conservative and medical treatment for her and got the desired result. Therefore, the combination of these factors raises the importance of introducing the case. According to FNH's nature, stability, complications, and evaluation of pain are essential to avoid unnecessary surgeries.

RESUMO

Iran is a semi-arid and arid country which always faces a water shortage crisis. Thus, the water resources in Iran should be studied by accurate methods such as stable isotope techniques. In precipitation sampling stations across Iran, the δ18O (ranges from -16.3 to -0.3 ‰, -4.9 ‰ average), δ2H (-114 to -13 ‰, -24.2 ‰ average) and d-excess (-2.1 to -22.7, 16.5 ‰ average) values are higher compared to δ18O (ranges from -10.9 to -3.1 ‰, -6.7 ‰ average), δ2H (-71 to -6 ‰, -37.4 ‰ average) and d-excess (1.0 to -21.6 ‰, 14.9 ‰ average) values in groundwater stations. Stable isotope distribution maps in precipitation and groundwater were also developed for Iran. The stepwise technique was used to study the role of parameters influencing stable isotopes in Iran precipitation. Results show the dominant role of temperature, elevation and latitude as well as 'cP and MedT' air masses mixture on stable isotope values in precipitation. Furthermore, the contribution percentage of each air mass which influences Iran in groundwater resources recharge was studied using 'Simmr' package in R programming language. Finally, the accuracy of the developed stable isotope distribution maps was validated.
