RESUMO

Root-knot nematodes (RKNs) are a vital pest that causes significant yield losses and economic damage to potato plants. The use of chemical pesticides to control these nematodes has led to environmental concerns and the development of resistance in the nematode populations. Endophytic fungi offer an eco-friendly alternative to control these pests and produce secondary metabolites that have nematicidal activity against RKNs. The objective of this study is to assess the efficacy of Aspergillus flavus (ON146363), an entophyte fungus isolated from Trigonella foenum-graecum seeds, against Meloidogyne incognita in filtered culture broth using GC-MS analysis. Among them, various nematicidal secondary metabolites were produced: Gadoleic acid, Oleic acid di-ethanolamide, Oleic acid, and Palmitic acid. In addition, biochemical compounds such as Gallic acid, Catechin, Protocatechuic acid, Esculatin, Vanillic acid, Pyrocatechol, Coumarine, Cinnamic acid, 4, 3-indol butyl acetic acid and Naphthyl acetic acid by HPLC. The fungus was identified through morphological and molecular analysis, including ITS 1-4 regions of ribosomal DNA. In vitro experiments showed that culture filtrate of A. flavus had a variable effect on reducing the number of egg hatchings and larval mortality, with higher concentrations showing greater efficacy than Abamectin. The fungus inhibited the development and multiplication of M. incognita in potato plants, reducing the number of galls and eggs by 90% and 89%, respectively. A. flavus increased the activity of defense-related enzymes Chitinas, Catalyse, and Peroxidase after 15, 45, and 60 days. Leaching of the concentrated culture significantly reduced the second juveniles' stage to 97% /250 g soil and decreased the penetration of nematodes into the roots. A. flavus cultural filtrates via soil spraying improved seedling growth and reduced nematode propagation, resulting in systemic resistance to nematode infection. Therefore, A. flavus can be an effective biological control agent for root-knot nematodes in potato plants. This approach provides a sustainable solution for farmers and minimizes the environmental impact.

The research was designed to use computed tomography (CT) with 3D-CT reconstruction imaging techniques and the various anatomical sections-plana transversalia, frontalis, and dorsalia-to describe the anatomical architecture of the Zebu cattle head. Our study used nine mature heads. The CT bone window created detailed images of cranial bones, mandibles, teeth, and hyoid bones. All of the head cavities were evaluated, including the cranial, orbital, oral, auricular, and nasal cavities with their paranasal and conchal sinuses. The septum nasi, attached to the vomer and maxillary bones, did not reach the nasal cavity floor caudally at the level of the second premolar teeth, resulting in a single median channel from the choanae to the nasopharynx. The positions, boundaries, and connections of the paranasal sinuses were clearly identified. There were four nasal conchal sinuses (that were named the dorsal, middle, ethmoidal, and ventral) and five paranasal sinuses that were described as the following: sinus frontalis, maxillaris, palatinorum, and lacrimalis, as defined in the different anatomical sections and computed tomographic images. The complicated sinus frontalis caused the pneumatization of all bones that surrounded the cranial cavity, with the exception of the ethmoidal and body of basisphenoid bones. The sinus maxillaris was connected to the sinus lacrimalis and palatinorum through the maxillolacrimal and palatomaxillary openings, and to the middle nasal meatus through the nasomaxillary opening. Our findings provide a detailed anatomical knowledge for disease diagnosis to internal medicine veterinarians and surgeons by offering a comprehensive atlas of the Zebu cattle anatomy.

BACKGROUND: The incidence of hospital-acquired infections in extensively drug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa (XDR-PA) has been increasing worldwide and is frequently associated with an increase in mortality and morbidity rates. The aim of this study was to characterize clinical XDR-PA isolates recovered during six months at three different hospitals in Egypt. RESULTS: Seventy hospital-acquired clinical isolates of P. aeruginosa were classified into multidrug-resistant (MDR), extensively drug-resistant (XDR) and pandrug-resistant (PDR), according to their antimicrobial resistance profile. In addition, the possession of genes associated with mobile genetic elements and genes encoding antimicrobial resistance determinants among isolates were detected using polymerase chain reaction. As a result, a significant percentage of the isolates (75.7%) were XDR, while 18.5% were MDR, however only 5.7% of the isolates were non-MDR. The phenotypic detection of carbapenemases, extended-spectrum ß-lactamases (ESBLs) and metallo ß-lactamase (MBL) enzymes showed that 73.6% of XDR-PA isolates were carbapenemases producers, whereas 75.5% and 88.7% of XDR-PA isolates produced ESBLs and MBL respectively. In addition, PCR screening showed that oxa gene was the most frequently detected gene of carbapenemases (91.4%), while aac(6')-lb gene was mostly detected (84.3%) among the screened aminoglycosides-resistance genes. Furthermore, the molecular detection of the colistin resistance gene showed that 12.9% of isolates harbored mcr-1 gene. Concerning mobile genetic element markers (intI, traA, tnp513, and merA), intI was the highest detected gene as it was amplified in 67 isolates (95.7%). Finally, phylogenetic and molecular typing of the isolates via ERIC-PCR analysis revealed 10 different ERIC fingerprints. CONCLUSION: The present study revealed a high prevalence of XDR-PA in hospital settings which were resistant to a variety of antibiotics due to several mechanisms. In addition, 98% of the XDR-PA clinical isolates contained at least one gene associated with movable genetic elements, which could have aided the evolution of these XDR-PA strains. To reduce spread of drug resistance, judicious use of antimicrobial agents and strict infection control measures are therefore essential.

Listeria monocytogenes is a concerning foodborne pathogen incriminated in soft cheese and meat-related outbreaks, highlighting the significance of applying alternative techniques to control its growth in food. In the current study, eco-friendly zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) were synthesized using Rosmarinus officinalis, Punica granatum, and Origanum marjoram extracts individually. The antimicrobial efficacy of the prepared ZnO-NPs against L. monocytogenes was assessed using the agar well diffusion technique. Data indicated that ZnO-NPs prepared using Origanum marjoram were the most effective; therefore, they were used for the preparation of gelatin-based bionanocomposite coatings. Furthermore, the antimicrobial efficacy of the prepared gelatin-based bionanocomposite coatings containing eco-friendly ZnO-NPs was evaluated against L. monocytogenes in Talaga cheese (an Egyptian soft cheese) and camel meat during refrigerated storage at 4 ± 1 oC. Talaga cheese and camel meat were inoculated with L. monocytogenes, then coated with gelatin (G), gelatin with ZnO-NPs 1% (G/ZnO-NPs 1%), and gelatin with ZnO-NPs 2% (G/ZnO-NPs 2%). Microbiological examination showed that the G/ZnO-NPs 2% coating reduced L. monocytogenes count in the coated Talaga cheese and camel meat by 2.76 ± 0.19 and 2.36 ± 0.51 log CFU/g, respectively, by the end of the storage period. Moreover, G/ZnO-NPs coatings controlled pH changes, reduced water losses, and improved the sensory characteristics of Talaga cheese and camel meat, thereby extending their shelf life. The obtained results from this study indicate that the application of gelatin/ZnO-NPs 2% bionanocomposite coating could be used in the food industry to control L. monocytogenes growth, improve quality, and extend the shelf life of Talaga cheese and camel meat.

OBJECTIVE: Emergency medicine (EM) is a growing specialty in India with the board approving training programme commencing only since 2009. This study aimed to identify the challenges faced by EM department personnel in the country and to obtain valuable insight into the concerns and problems experienced by them. METHODS: This study was a cross-sectional digital survey conducted among EM department personnel in teaching institutions across India. The study involved 170 respondents, who completed an online questionnaire that covered various aspects of their work and identified the challenges they faced. It also captured potential solutions as perceived by the respondents. RESULTS: A total of n=170 participants completed the survey of which N=164 fulfilled the eligibility criteria. The study revealed significant challenges faced by EM personnel in India. Administrative and clerical work consumed a considerable amount of respondents' time. Understaffing (n=144/164; 87.8%), followed by complains about delay due to hospital administrative processes and policies (n=141/164; 85.9%), and delay in interhospital transfers (n=139/164; 84.8%) were the primary concerns spelt out by the respondents. Additionally, respondents experienced interpersonal conflicts, and verbal/physical abuse and inappropriate behaviour from patients and their family members. Potential key solutions suggested were to improve resources including manpower and take steps to prevent violence against EM staff. CONCLUSION: The study's results call for policy-makers and hospital administrators to address the issues faced by EM department staff. Improving EM department operations can improve patient care and staff well-being. Future research should examine challenges in non-teaching institutions and potential solutions.

The present study aims to evaluate the morphometric and histopathological properties of Modified Elnady's plastinated tissue after a period compared to non-plastinated tissue. The plastination technique is utilized in research and teaching due to the potential health risks associated with prolonged exposure to formalin. The tissues and organs are permanently dried during plastination and can be used for further anatomical, histopathological and surgical educational purposes. This method involves drying tissue and allowing synthetic materials like glycerin to permeate it. The study compared non-plastinated and plastinated tissue post-plastination to determine if structural alterations differed from those linked to plastination. The study examined the histopathological examination of dogs' skin, muscles, liver, lung, and intestine using formalin-fixed organs for paraffin embedding and previously plastinated organs for a plastinated group. The study examined non-plastinated and plastinated tissues, their histological composition and biometric parameters revealing typical structures in the non-plastinated group. Plasmodiumted tissues exhibited a compacted appearance, volume changes, nuclear clarity, and cytoplasmic hypereosinophilia, with statistical differences between the two groups. The study reveals that plastinated tissues, after 5 years of plastination, maintain their histological architecture well, with some exceptions. Plastinated tissues can be utilized in future microscopic and immunological studies and will be beneficial for teaching and research.

Our research aimed to provide complete histological, histochemical and ultrastructural features of the lacrimal gland of the one-humped camel (Camelus dromedarius) as well as novel insights into its adaptability to the Egyptian desert. Our study was applied to 20 fresh lacrimal glands collected from 10 camels instantly after their slaughtering. The results revealed that the gland was a compound tubulo-acinar gland, and its acini were enclosed by a thick connective tissue capsule that was very rich in elastic and collagen fibres. The gland acini had irregular lumens and were composed of conical to pyramidal cells. The nuclei of secretory cells were found in the basal part, and the cytoplasm was eosinophilic and granular. The glandular tissue consisted of serous and mucous acini and seromucous secretory cells. Histochemically, there was a significant amount of neutral mucopolysaccharides in the acini in which mucous cells had a significant periodic acid-Schiff (PAS)-positive reaction, whereas seromucous cells had a mild PAS-positive reaction. Ultrastructurally, the lacrimal cells had numerous secretory vesicles with contents of moderately to highly electron-dense cytoplasm. The nuclear envelope consisted of two prominent membranes surrounding the peri-nuclear cisterna. The acinar cells had numerous electron-lucent and moderately electron-dense secretory granules, mainly situated on the apical surface, and secreted their contents into the lumen. The luminal surface of the mucous secretory cells represents the remains of secretory granules discharged by the merocrine mechanism. In conclusion, the mucous secretion is believed to aid in the washing and moistening of the eyeball, particularly in dry, hot and dusty environments.

Context: The restorative complexities associated with endodontically treated teeth surpass those encountered with vital ones. The field of adhesive dentistry experienced a significant advancement that led to a shift in treatment approach toward bonded restorations. Aim: The aim of the study was to assess the clinical performance of using indirect Milled composite or direct bulk-fill resin composite restorations for endo-treated teeth, as well as to measure the amount of wear on the occlusal tables of both restorations using a digital scanner. Subjects and Methods: Participants were divided into two groups, where R1 represents the endodontically treated teeth restored with Milled composite, R2 represents the endodontically treated teeth restored with direct bulk-fill composite where 13 patients in each group were treated with a total number of 26 restorations in all patients. Where each restoration was assessed immediately at baseline (T0), 6 months (T6), and 12 months (T12) using the modified United States Public Health Service criteria. Moreover, wear was measured immediately at (T0) and (T12) intraorally and extraorally using intraoral scanners and three-dimensional surface-based superimposition software. Statistical Analysis Used: Chi-squared test, Mann-Whitney U-test, Friedman's test, Nemenyi post hoc test, Shapiro-Wilk test, paired t-tests, intraclass correlation coefficient. Results: At all intervals, the majority of the cases in both groups had an alpha score. Some cases exhibited bravo scores in both groups at T6 and T12 regarding the color match, marginal adaptation, marginal discoloration, and marginal integrity without statistically significant difference (P > 0.05). Direct nanohybrid bulk-fill resin composite showed a greater amount of wear without a statistically significant difference (P > 0.05). Extraoral measurement was significantly higher than intraoral measurement (P < 0.001). There was no significant reliability/agreement between both methods. Conclusions: Both milled composite and direct bulk-fill resin composite restorations in endodontically treated teeth demonstrated appropriate clinical performance and minimal wear over an 1-year follow-up period.

RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES: Neurological complications associated with coronavirus disease (COVID-19) have been reported in children; however, data on neuroimaging findings remain limited. This study aimed to comprehensively examine neuroimaging patterns of COVID-19 in children and their relationship with clinical outcomes. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective cross-sectional study involved reviewing the medical records and MRI scans of 95 children who developed new neurological symptoms within 2-4 weeks of clinical and laboratory confirmation of COVID-19. Patients were categorized into four groups based on guidelines approved by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Initial brain/spinal MRI was performed. Images were reviewed by three blinded radiologists, and the findings were analyzed and categorized based on the observed patterns in the brain and spinal cord. Follow-up MRI was performed and analyzed to track lesion progression. RESULTS: Encephalopathy was the most common neurological symptom (50.5%). The most common initial MRI involvement patterns were non-confluent multifocal hyperintense white matter (WM) lesions (36.8%) and ischemia (18.9%). Most patients who underwent follow-up MRI (n = 56) showed complete resolution (69.9%); however, some patients developed encephalomalacia and myelomalacia (23.2% and 7.1%, respectively). Non-confluent hyperintense WM lesions were associated with good outcomes (45.9%, P = 0.014), whereas ischemia and hemorrhage were associated with poor outcomes (44.1%, P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: This study revealed diverse neuroimaging patterns in pediatric COVID-19 patients. Non-confluent WM lesions were associated with good outcomes, whereas ischemia and hemorrhage were associated with poorer prognoses. Understanding these patterns is crucial for their early detection, accurate diagnosis, and appropriate management.

In this study, we investigated the biological aspects and predation efficiency of 3 aphidophagous ladybird beetles, Coccinella novemnotata, Hippodamia variegata, and Coccinella septempunctata, on the cotton aphid, Aphis gossypii, reared on cucumber plants (Cucumis sativus L. cultivar barracuda) under laboratory conditions. The developmental periods of C. novemnotata, H. variegata, and C. septempunctata were observed to be 16.00 ±â€…0.25, 16.00 ±â€…0.25, and 20.58 ±â€…0.40 days, respectively. The larvae of these ladybird beetles consumed an average of 218.93 ±â€…8.86, 254.77 ±â€…8.86, and 537.36 ±â€…10.49 aphids, respectively. Fourth-instar larvae were particularly efficient, consuming 53.68%, 52.68%, and 52.64% of total aphids for C. novemnotata, H. variegata, and C. septempunctata, respectively. Adult emergence rates were promising, with 91.67%, 100.00%, and 92.86%, accompanied by sex ratios of 63.64%, 53.84%, and 61.54%, respectively. Notably, a single female of C. novemnotata, H. variegata, and C. septempunctata consumed an average of 2,215.30, 2,232.00, and 3,364.50 aphids, respectively, over its lifespan. Coccinella septempunctata demonstrated the highest predation efficiency among the 3 species, suggesting its potential for biological control of A. gossypii in both open fields and greenhouses, promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

Drought is a crucial environmental stress that tremendously impacts maize production, particularly under abrupt climate changes. Consequently, breeding drought-tolerant and high-yielding maize hybrids has become decisive in sustaining its production and ensuring global food security under the global fast-growing population. The present study aimed to explore drought tolerance and agronomic performance of newly developed maize inbred lines and their hybrids. Ten newly developed maize inbred lines were crossed with two high-yielding testers using a line × tester mating design. The developed twenty hybrids alongside two high-yielding commercial hybrids were evaluated under water-deficit (5411 m3/ha) and well-watered (7990 m3/ha) conditions in dry summer climate conditions. Highly significant variations were detected among the evaluated hybrids for all studied agronomic traits under well-watered and water-deficit conditions. The inbred lines L10 and L6 were particularly notable, demonstrating the most significant negative general combining ability (GCA) effects for earliness, which is crucial for stress avoidance in both environmental settings. Inbred lines L11, L7, L6, and L1 also showed the highest positive and most significant GCA effects for key yield traits, indicating their potential as parents in breeding programs. The crosses L-10×T-1 and L-6×T-2 were outstanding for their heterotic effects on earliness in days to tasseling and silking. Similarly, the crosses L-4×T-2 and L-1×T-1 excelled in plant and ear heights under both irrigation regimes. The hybrids L-1×T-2 and L-7×T-1 demonstrated superior heterosis for chlorophyll content, number of rows per ear, and overall grain yield. Additionally, hybrids L-11×T-1 and L-11×T-2 exhibited remarkable heterotic effects for the number of grains per row, number of rows per ear, 100-kernel weight, and grain yield, highlighting their potential in breeding for productivity. Based on drought tolerance indices and cluster analysis, the cross combinations L-11×T-1, L-11×T-2, L-7×T-1, and L-1×T-2 were classified as the most drought-tolerant crosses. The principal component analysis highlighted traits such as days to tasseling, days to silking, chlorophyll content, plant height, ear height, number of grains per row, number of rows per ear, and 100-kernel weight can be taken as selection criteria for improving grain yield in maize breeding programs under limited water conditions. Based on the summarized results, the identified genetic materials could be considered promising under both conditions and hold potential for future breeding programs.

Moringa oleifera (MO), a cultivated species of the Moringa, is known for its high concentration of essential nutrients that promote growth. To assess its impact on rabbits' gut morphometric, behavioural, and physiological parameters, a study was conducted using sixty growing male white New Zealand rabbits at 40 days old. The rabbits were divided into four groups and supplemented with dried MO leaves at varying levels (0%, 0.5%, 1% and 2% of body weight) for four weeks. The results revealed significant increases in organ weights, such as liver and intestinal length, and the height of intestinal villi and crypt depth in the large intestine. The muscular layer's and submucosa's thickness also increased in different parts of the intestine in rabbits fed with MO compared to the control group. No significant effect was observed on the caecum mucosa depth. Interestingly, no significant differences were found in body weight or weight gain between the Moringa supplementation groups and the control group. However, rabbits offered 0%, 0.5% and 1% MO spent more time feeding and resting than those given 2% MO. The grooming and sniffing percentage remained unaffected by Moringa supplementation. Regarding blood parameters, rabbits that received MO leaves in their diet showed improvements in red blood cell count, haemoglobin levels, packed cell volume, white blood cell count, neutrophil count, total protein, globulin, and A/G ratio. Moreover, there was a significant decrease in malondialdehyde levels and an increase in glutathione and high-density lipoprotein levels, indicating an antioxidative effect. Overall, the study concluded that MO leaves supplementation in the rabbit diet positively influenced the rabbits' health by modulating the immune system, improving histological aspects of the intestine, liver, and spleen, and enhancing physiological parameters through its antioxidative properties.

Between 2016 and 2018, the Agriculture Research Center's Sakha Agriculture Research Station conducted two rounds of pedigree selection on a segregating population of cotton (Gossypium barbadense L.) using the F2, F3, and F4 generations resulting from crossing Giza 94 and Suvin. In 2016, the top 5% of plants from the F2 population were selected based on specific criteria. The superior families from the F3 generation were then selected to produce the F4 families in 2017, which were grown in the 2018 summer season in single plant progeny rows and bulk experiments with a randomized complete block design of three replications. Over time, most traits showed increased mean values in the population, with the F2 generation having higher Genotypic Coefficient of Variance (GCV) and Phenotypic Coefficient of Variance (PCV) values compared to the succeeding generations for the studied traits. The magnitude of GCV and PCV in the F3 and F4 generations was similar, indicating that genotype had played a greater role than the environment. Moreover, the mean values of heritability in the broad sense increased from generation to generation. Selection criteria I2, I4, and I5 were effective in improving most of the yield and its component traits, while selection criterion I1 was efficient in improving earliness traits. Most of the yield and its component traits showed a positive and significant correlation with each other, highlighting their importance in cotton yield. This suggests that selecting to improveone or more of these traits would improve the others. Families number 9, 13, 19, 20, and 21 were the best genotypes for relevant yield characters, surpassing the better parent, check variety, and giving the best values for most characters. Therefore, the breeder could continue to use these families in further generations as breeding genotypes to develop varieties with high yields and its components.

The 3D render volume reconstruction CT (3D-RVCT) produced detailed images of the PES region, determining its relationships with the surrounding structures. Despite extensive research in veterinary studies on the PES through gross anatomy and CT, there is a lack of studies on the PES of zebu cattle. The study aimed to analyze the PES of Zebu cattle using gross cross-sectional, radiographic, CT, and morphometric methods, with the use of 3D-RVCT to provide anatomical guidance for surgeons and students. The study was performed on sixteen PES regions to provide hard and soft tissues in CT images. Three are five tarsal bones and two large fused (III and IV) metatarsal bones that were completely fused except for their distal extremities, which were divided distally by the intertrochlear notch. The cortical thickness of the metatarsal bone was equal on both sides. The bony septum divided the medullary cavity between the two fused large metatarsal bones in the proximal distal half only and disappeared in the middle part. The reconstruction showed similar sizes in the right and left limbs, confirming the pes bones. The radiographic and CT images could be used as a normal reference for the interpretation of some clinical diseases in the PES. The 3D CT reconstruction of the pes bones was described by various CT oblique dorsal and plantar views. The study focuses on diagnosing PES disorders using CT imaging, improving medical interventions, improving Zebu cattle health outcomes, and empowering students to contribute to veterinary medicine research and advancements.

Heavy metals have been widely applied in industry, agriculture, and other fields because of their outstanding physics and chemistry properties. They are non-degradable even at low concentrations, causing irreversible harm to the human and other organisms. Therefore, it is of great significance to develop high accuracy and sensitivity as well as stable techniques for their detection. Raman scattering spectroscopy and atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS) were used parallelly to detect heavy metal ions such as Hg, Cd, and Pb of different concentrations in fish samples. The concentration of the heavy metals is varied from 5 ppb to 5 ppm. Despite the satisfactory recoveries of AAS, their drawbacks are imperative for an alternative technique. In Raman scattering spectroscopy, the intensities and areas of the characteristic peaks are increased with increasing the concentration of the heavy metals. For Hg concentration ≥ 1 ppm, a slight shift is observed in the peak position. The obtained values of peak intensity and peak area are modeled according to Elvoich, Pseudo-first order, Pseudo-second order, and asymptotic1 exponential model. The best modeling was obtained using the Elovich model followed by the asymptotic1 exponential model. The introduced Raman spectroscopy-based approach for on-site detection of trace heavy metal pollution in fish samples is rapid, low-cost, and simple to implement, increasing its visibility in food safety and industrial applications.

BACKGROUND: This ethnobotanical study in Dunyapur, District Lodhran, Pakistan, focuses on traditional medicinal knowledge, exploring 41 plants across 28 families. The research involves 496 informants from diverse backgrounds, including farmers, herbalists, housewives, teachers, and shopkeepers. The prevalence of herbs (68%) aligns with their accessibility and rapid regrowth, shaping the local medicinal landscape. The study investigates socio-demographic features, emphasizing the importance of considering the community's diverse perspectives. METHODS: The research employs quantitative ethnobotanical data analysis, introducing various indices like PPV, FUV, FIV, RFC, UV, and RI. The analysis of plant growth habits underscores the dominance of herbs, and the method of preparation evaluation identifies decoction as the most common (23%). Leaves (27%) are the most utilized plant part, and Resedaceae stands out with the highest FUV (0.38). FIV highlights the ecological and cultural significance of Poaceae, Boraginaceae, Fabaceae, and Solanaceae. RESULTS: The RFC values range from 0.016 to 0.032, with Cucumis melo having the highest value (0.032), indicating its frequent citation and cultural significance. The study reveals specific plants like Melia azedarach, Peganum harmala and Salvadora oleoides with high PR values for skin issues, reflecting their widespread acceptance and effectiveness. Oligomeris linifolia emerges with the highest UV (0.38), emphasizing its greater significance in local traditional practices. Leptadenia pyrotechnica records the highest RI (9.85), underlining its exceptional importance in the community's traditional pharmacopeia. CONCLUSION: The findings offer a holistic understanding of ethnobotanical knowledge in Dunyapur, emphasizing the role of local contexts and ecological factors in shaping traditional plant uses. The study contributes valuable insights into the diverse practices within the community, laying the foundation for sustainable integration of traditional knowledge into broader healthcare frameworks.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a debilitating neurodegenerative disorder that requires accurate diagnosis for effective management and treatment. In this article, we propose an architecture for a convolutional neural network (CNN) that utilizes magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data from the Alzheimer's disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) dataset to categorize AD. The network employs two separate CNN models, each with distinct filter sizes and pooling layers, which are concatenated in a classification layer. The multi-class problem is addressed across three, four, and five categories. The proposed CNN architecture achieves exceptional accuracies of 99.43%, 99.57%, and 99.13%, respectively. These high accuracies demonstrate the efficacy of the network in capturing and discerning relevant features from MRI images, enabling precise classification of AD subtypes and stages. The network architecture leverages the hierarchical nature of convolutional layers, pooling layers, and fully connected layers to extract both local and global patterns from the data, facilitating accurate discrimination between different AD categories. Accurate classification of AD carries significant clinical implications, including early detection, personalized treatment planning, disease monitoring, and prognostic assessment. The reported accuracy underscores the potential of the proposed CNN architecture to assist medical professionals and researchers in making precise and informed judgments regarding AD patients.

BACKGROUND: There is limited data in the literature regarding the role of nonarthrographic MRI for detecting biceps pulley (BP) lesions. PURPOSE: To assess the accuracy of nonarthrographic MRI for detecting BP lesions, and to evaluate the diagnostic value of various MRI signs (superior glenohumeral ligament discontinuity/nonvisibility, long head of biceps (LHB) displacement sign or subluxation/dislocation, LHB tendinopathy, and supraspinatus and subscapularis tendon lesions) in detecting such lesions. STUDY TYPE: Retrospective. POPULATION: 84 patients (32 in BP-lesion group and 52 in BP-intact group-as confirmed by arthroscopy). FIELD STRENGTH/SEQUENCE: 1.5-T, T1-weighted turbo spin echo (TSE), T2-weighted TSE, and proton density-weighted TSE spectral attenuated inversion recovery (SPAIR) sequences. ASSESSMENT: Three radiologists independently reviewed all MRI data for the presence of BP lesions and various MRI signs. The MRI signs and final MRI diagnoses were tested for accuracy regarding detecting BP lesions using arthroscopy results as the reference standard. Furthermore, the inter-reader agreement (IRA) between radiologists was determined. STATISTICAL TESTS: Student's t-tests, Chi-squared, and Fisher's exact tests, and 4-fold table test were used. The IRA was calculated using Kappa statistics. A P-value <0.05 was considered statistically significant. RESULTS: The sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of nonarthrographic MRI for detecting BP lesions were 65.6%-78.1%, 90.4%-92.3%, and 81%-86.9%, respectively. The highest accuracy was noticed for the LHB displacement sign (84.5%-86.9%), and the highest sensitivity was registered for the LHB tendinopathy sign (87.5%). Furthermore, the highest specificity was observed for the LHB displacement sign and LHB subluxation/dislocation sign (98.1%-100%). The IRA regarding final MRI diagnosis and MRI signs of BP lesions was good to very good (κ = 0.76-0.98). DATA CONCLUSION: Nonarthrographic shoulder MRI may show good diagnostic accuracy for detecting BP lesions. The LHB displacement sign could serve as the most accurate and specific sign for diagnosis of BP lesions. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: 3 TECHNICAL EFFICACY: Stage 2.

RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES: Recently, a new MRI-based classification for evaluating tibial spine fractures (TSFs) was developed to aid in treating these injuries. Our objective was to assess the detection efficacy, classification accuracy, and reliability of this classification in detecting and grading TSFs, as well as its impact on treatment strategy, compared to the Meyers and McKeever (MM) classification. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective study included 68 patients with arthroscopically confirmed TSFs. All patients had plain radiography and conventional MRI of the affected knee before arthroscopy. Three experienced radiologists independently reviewed all plain radiographs and MRI data and graded each patient according to MM and MRI-based classifications. The detection efficacy, classification accuracy, and inter-rater agreement of both classifications were evaluated and compared, using arthroscopic findings as the gold standard. RESULTS: The final analysis included 68 affected knees. Compared to the MM classification, the MRI-based classification produced 22.0% upgrade of TSFs and 11.8% downgrade of TSFs. According to the reviewers, the fracture classification accuracy of the MRI-based classification (91.2-95.6%) was significantly higher than that of the MM classification (73.5-76.5%, p = 0.002-0.01). The fracture detection rate of MRI-based classification (94.1-98.5%) was non-significantly higher than that of the MM classification (83.8-89.7%, p = 0.07-0.4). The soft tissue injury detection accuracy for MRI-based classification was 91.2-94.1%. The inter-rater reliability for grading TSFs was substantial for both the MM classification (κ = 0.69) and MRI-based classification (κ = 0.79). CONCLUSION: MRI-based classification demonstrates greater accuracy and reliability compared to MM classification for detecting and grading TSFs and associated soft tissue injuries.
