Objectives: There are limited data on the clinical and epidemiological aspects of mpox in Saudi Arabia. This study investigates the characteristics of Mpox cases from May to September 2023. Methods: A total of 381 cases of Mpox were included in this study, diagnosed based on a combination of clinical symptoms and laboratory testing. Results: The majority of mpox cases were males (91.1%), with a mean age of (±SD) of 32.4 (±8.3) years; 356 (93.4%) did not report travel, 277 (72.7%) denied engaging in extra-marital sex, and 379 (99.5%) were not linked to secondary cases. Fever was reported in 371 (97.4%), whereas headache was present in 314 (82.4%). Cough (1.3%) and conjunctivitis (0.5%) were rare. The most commonly affected areas in terms of lesions were the palms and soles (297 cases, 78%), followed by the genitals (206 cases, 54%), face (198 cases, 52%), and mouth (160 cases, 42%). Of the 1325 identified contacts, 1134 (85.5%) were hospital contacts, and 191 (14.5%) were community contacts, and 393 (29.6%) were high-risk contact. Of the high-risk contacts, 284 (72.3%) accepted post-exposure vaccination. The genotyped samples were all subclade IIb (formerly the West Africa clade). Conclusions: This study provides valuable insights into mpox characteristics in Saudi Arabia. The genome of monkeypox virus belonged to subclade IIb of the West Africa clade. Further analysis of the global tree sublineage is needed.

ABSTRACT: A 51-year-old man with biochemical failure after brachytherapy for prostatic adenocarcinoma (PSA 5 µg/L rising to 6.45 µg/L) underwent a PSMA PET/CT scan. The scan revealed focal 18 F-PSMA activity at the right apex suggestive of local residual or recurrent disease. In addition, 18 F-PSMA images demonstrated 2 focal 18 F-PSMA-avid liver and spleen lesions; both lesions were further evaluated by abdominal MRI, and the final radiological diagnosis was synchronous hepatic and splenic hemangiomas.

BACKGROUND: Sleep is one of the fundamental human needs, essential for maintaining a high quality of life and mental and physical well-being across all age groups. Poor sleep quality often stems from negative lifestyle habits, including excessive internet usage. Therefore, it is important to determine the prevalence of internet gaming disorder among youth in Saudi Arabia and to examine the relationship between internet addiction levels and sleep quality. METHODS: Data were collected from 338 medical students in the southern region of Saudi Arabia (mean age = 21.2 years, standard deviation = 3.29 years). Participants completed an online questionnaire comprising the Internet Addiction Test (IAT) and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Data analysis employed iterations, chi-square tests, Pearson correlation coefficients, and ANOVA. RESULTS: The results revealed that 21% of the participants exhibited severe internet addiction, while 31% displayed moderate internet addiction. Furthermore, the findings indicated a positive correlation between sleep quality and the severity of internet addiction. Sleep quality symptoms explained 75% of the variance in Internet addiction scores, even after controlling for demographic variables. Additional bivariate analyses revealed that individuals who spent six or more hours online daily were more likely to experience symptoms of poor sleep quality and exhibit a higher severity of internet addiction. Additionally, Men were more susceptible to developing internet addiction compared to women. Moreover, students with internet addiction tended to have lower academic achievements. CONCLUSION: These findings, while exploratory, offer valuable insights into potential interventions, strategies, and programs for mitigating internet addiction and enhancing sleep quality among medical college students.

This Systematic Review (SR) was to report on the prevalence of pulp stones in the Saudi Arabian (KSA) population. The electronic databases were searched for scientific research articles during May 2021. The data search was performed in electronic search engines like PubMed, Scopus, Web of science, and Saudi Digital Library, and 6 original research articles which fulfilled the eligibility criteria were assessed for qualitative data. The prevalence of pulp stones among the KSA population ranged from 4.6% to 50.93% among the study participants and it ranged between 10.2%-13.34% in the teeth assessed. The pulp stones were more frequently reported in decayed teeth, periodontal diseases, attrition, teeth with dental restorations, and higher in the molar teeth in comparison with the premolar teeth. The data on the prevalence of pulp stones among the Saudi population will be helpful for clinicians in planning endodontic procedures.

Purpose: Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a multisystemic disease that results in diverse clinical manifestations in the form of acute and chronic complications. This study aims to assess the academic achievements of patients with SCD. Methods and Materials: A cross-sectional study was a study conducted among adult patients with SCD from the eastern province of Saudi Arabia, where SCD is more widespread than in other regions. Results: A total of ninety patients with SCD, whose median age was 32.33 ± 11.84, were retrospectively evaluated. Of the total number, 32 (35.5%) did not obtain a secondary higher education certificate, and five (3.3%) were illiterate. Sixty-three (70%) of the patients were female, indicating no significant association between gender and education level (p-value > 0.05). The patients' mean annual hospitalizations and emergency visits totaling 4.7 and 8.43, respectively, were not significantly associated with education (p-value > 0.05). Throughout the patients' lives, mean blood transfusions and ICU admissions occurred 6.29 and 2.75 times, respectively, which were not significantly associated with education level (p-value > 0.05). However, education was inversely proportional to a history of splenectomy and cholecystectomy (p < 0.05). Laboratory parameters (hemoglobin level, WBC, platelets, and hemoglobin F) showed no significant associations with education level (p-value > 0.05). Patients with sickle-thalassemia exhibited a trend of being better-educated than those without the diseases, but the difference did not reach statistical significance (p-value > 0.05). A linear regression analysis revealed no significant associations among clinical and laboratory parameters. Conclusion: SCD is a multisystemic disease that impacts socioeconomic status, learning ability, and academic achievements. More research is needed to identify factors that predict poor performance. Additionally, intelligence quotient (IQ) and cognitive assessment should be incorporated into early screening programs for SCD in order to implement preventive measures and a thorough investigation of underlying causes.

Sepsis, a life-threatening condition arising from infection, often results in multi-organ failure, including cardiac dysfunction. This study investigated Xanthohumol, a natural compound, and its potential mechanism of action to enhance heart function following sepsis. A total of twenty-four adult male Swiss albino mice were allocated randomly to one of four equal groups (n=6): sham, CLP, vehicle Xanthohumol the same amount of DMSO injected IP 10 minutes before the CLP, and Xanthohumol group (0.4 mg/kg of Xanthohumol administered IP before the CLP process). Toll-like receptor 4, pro-inflammatory mediators, anti-inflammatory markers, oxidative stress indicators, apoptosis markers, and serum cardiac damage biomarkers were measured in the cardiac tissue using ELISA. Data with normal distribution were analyzed using t-test and ANOVA tests (p<0.05). In comparison to the sham group, the sepsis group had significantly higher levels of TLR-4, IL-6, TNF-α, MIF, F2-isoprostane, caspase-3, cTn-I, and CK-MB, while the pre-treated group with Xanthohumol had significantly lower levels (p<0.05) of these markers than the sepsis group. Bcl-2 showed no significant difference in Xanthohumol pre-treated group relative to the sepsis group, while IL-10 was significantly elevated. Xanthohumol dramatically reduced cardiac tissue injury (p<0.05) relative to the CLP group. By blocking the downstream signal transduction pathways of TLR-4 and NF-kB, Xanthohumol was shown to lessen cardiac damage in male mice during CLP-induced polymicrobial sepsis.

As sepsis is associated with a 50% increase in mortality, sepsis-induced cardiomyopathy has become a critical topic. A multidisciplinary approach is required for the diagnosis and treatment of septic cardiomyopathy. This study looked at Sulforaphane, a natural product that aims to evaluate cardiac function after sepsis, and its likely mechanism of action. Twenty-four adult male Swiss albino mice were randomly divided into 4 equal groups (n=6): sham, CLP, vehicle Sulforaphane (the same amount of DMSO injected IP one hour before the CLP), and Sulforaphane group (one hour before the CLP, a 5mg/kg dose of Sulforaphane was injected). Cardiac tissue levels of toll-like receptor 4 (TLR-4), pro-inflammatory mediators, anti-inflammatory markers, oxidative stress markers, apoptosis markers, and serum cardiac damage biomarkers were assessed using ELISA. Statistical analyses, including t-tests and ANOVA tests, were performed with a significance level of 0.05 for normally distributed data. Compared to the sham group, the sepsis group had significantly elevated levels of TLR-4, IL-6, TNF-α, MIF, F2-isoprostane, caspase-3, cTn-I, and CK-MB (p<0.05). In contrast, the Sulforaphane pre-treated group demonstrated significantly lower levels of these markers (p<0.05). Additionally, Bcl-2 levels were significantly reduced (p<0.05) in the Sulforaphane group. Sulforaphane administration also significantly attenuated cardiac tissue injury (p<0.05). The findings suggest that Sulforaphane can decrease heart damage in male mice during CLP-induced polymicrobial sepsis by suppressing TLR-4/NF-kB downstream signal transduction pathways.

Background Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a common autosomal recessive inherited hemoglobin disorder in many countries. Neurological complications are among the most disabling complications in SCD. Stroke and cerebral vasculopathy can lead to further neurological insult. Ischemic insults, stroke, and silent infarcts are preventable causes of morbidity and mortality in SCD patients. Understanding the epidemiology and characteristics of such patients will help to prevent complications.  Methodology This is a retrospective study conducted in a tertiary care center in Saudi Arabia. Cases of SCD admitted to the pediatric ward between the years 2019 to 2023 were included in the study. Demographic data, clinical diagnosis, and frequency of prior admissions were collected. Brain imaging results were reviewed and included. Furthermore, the study assessed common risk factors leading to developing a stroke in SCD pediatric patients. Risk factors and clinical outcomes after stroke were also included. Results Eighty-one patients were enrolled. The mean age of stroke patients was 8.21±3.50 years while the mean age of non-stroke patients was 6.24±3.76 years. More than half of the patients were females in both the stroke (61.50%) and non-stroke groups (52.90%). Thirteen SCD patients (16%) were diagnosed with stroke. Previous history of stroke, high mean corpuscular volume (MCV), and low red blood cells count (RBC) were statistically significant risk factors for stroke (p<0.0001), (p<0.0001), (p<0.03), respectively.  Conclusion Stroke is one of the most devastating complications of SCD. The prevalence of stroke among SCD patients in our study was 16%. Transcranial Doppler ultrasound screening is the most important predictor of stroke.

Molar incisor hypomineralization (MIH) is a significant health problem that can affect the child's quality of life by negatively affecting their esthetics and function. This review aimed to summarize the etiology and pathogenesis of MIH. It also aimed to summarize the recent studies on MIH in children and adolescents, focusing on diagnosis, prevention, and clinical management. An electronic search on the PubMed, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, MEDLINE, MedlinePlus, WHO reports, and Google Scholar databases was performed. The volume of research on the etiology, presentation, and clinical management of MIH is still expanding. The creation and validation of indices for the diagnosis and management of MIH, as well as any potential genetic aspects appear to be the main areas of current research. Notably, MIH was linked to childhood illnesses, the use of antibiotics, and early childhood fever. Although many studies discuss the different options for managing MIH lesions, evidence-based studies that address the long-term outcomes of MIH are still lacking. Indeed, future clinical studies should be directed to evaluate the impact of each systemic etiological factor and its different types of management on normal amelogenesis. Regarding the diagnosis, future research should focus on the pre-eruption diagnosis and early approaches to prevent the post-eruption breakdown and caries. Regarding the treatment of MIH, future investigations should emphasize further improvements in adhesion and the use of new materials and techniques, such as digital dentistry.

Objectives: Marginal adaptation is considered one of the key factors influencing the success of indirect restorations. This study aimed to estimate the marginal fit of lithium disilicate overlays with three distinct preparation designs before and after cementation. Methods: Thirty maxillary first premolars were divided into the hollow chamfer design (HCD) group, butt-joint design (BJD) group, and conventional occlusal box design (COD) group (n = 10 each). The samples were scanned using an intra-oral scanner, and overlays were fabricated using computer-assisted design and milled on a computer-assisted machine. The finished restorations were luted using a self-adhesive resin RelyX Ultimate. The marginal gap was assessed using a digital microscope with 230X magnification power. Statistical analysis was conducted using analysis of variance and post hoc (Bonferroni correction) tests, assuming a significance level of 5%. Results: The HCD and BJD groups recorded significantly lower marginal gap, (11.39 ± 0.72, 16.29 ± 0.75) and (11.59 ± 0.75, 16.93 ± 0.65) respectively, than the COD group (24.57 ± 1.18, 34.45 ± 1.09) both pre- and post-cementation. Conclusion: This study demonstrated that modification of tooth preparation plays a significant role in the marginal adaptation of the lithium disilicate overlays. The gap was smaller with the HCD and BJD than with the COD, with a statistically significant difference.

Background Diabetic foot syndrome is a complex and multifactorial disease process involving neuropathy, peripheral arterial disease, osteomyelitis, diabetic foot ulcer (DFU), and amputation. DFUs are a common and burdensome manifestation of the syndrome, responsible for diabetes-related morbidity and mortality. Successful management of DFU requires collaboration between patients and caregivers. This study assesses the knowledge, experience, and practices of the caregivers of diabetic foot patients in Saudi Arabia, highlighting the need for targeted interventions to improve knowledge and practices in certain subgroups of caregivers. Method The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the proficiency and practicality of caregivers who provide care to patients with diabetic foot in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. To accomplish this, a cross-sectional study was conducted among caregivers of diabetic foot patients who were aged 18 years or older and living in Saudi Arabia. The participants were randomly chosen to ensure that the sample was representative. The data collection process involved the distribution of a structured online questionnaire via various social media platforms. Prior to the distribution of the questionnaire, the participants were informed about the study's objectives, and their informed consent was obtained. Additionally, adequate measures were taken to ensure the confidentiality of the participants and their caregiving status. Results Among the initial pool of 2990 participants, 1023 individuals were excluded from the study due to their status as non-caregivers of diabetic patients or being under the age of 18 years. Consequently, the final sample size consisted of 1921 caregivers. The majority of the participants were female (61.6%), married (58.6%), and had a bachelor's degree (52.4%). The findings revealed that 34.6% of caregivers were attending to patients with diabetic foot, of which 8.5% reported poor foot status and 9.1% reported amputation. Caregivers reported examining the patient's feet in 75.2% of cases, and the feet were cleaned and moisturized by either the patient or caregiver. Nails were trimmed by 77.8% of caregivers, and 49.8% of them did not permit patients to walk barefoot. Moreover, knowledge of diabetic foot care was positively correlated with being female, having a post-graduate degree, having personal experience with diabetes, caring for a patient with diabetic foot, and having prior experience in treating diabetic foot. Conversely, lower knowledge levels were associated with divorced or unemployed caregivers and those residing in the northern region. Conclusion The present study highlights that caregivers of diabetic foot patients in Saudi Arabia possess a satisfactory level of knowledge and follow appropriate practices regarding foot care. Nonetheless, it is imperative to identify specific subgroups of caregivers who may require additional education and training to improve their knowledge and practices concerning diabetic foot care. The results of this study could potentially inform the design of tailored interventions aimed at reducing the significant burden of morbidity and mortality attributed to diabetic foot syndrome in the Saudi Arabian context.

The coronal seal in root canal-treated teeth may be compromised depending on the accuracy of post space preparation and post cementation along with remaining gutta-percha. Root canal treatment can be compromised by endotoxins released by the coronal bacteria as a result of microleakage. The study was conducted by undergraduate students to measure the gap between the cemented post and residual gutta-percha. In total, 217 endodontically treated teeth were evaluated with intraoral peri-apical radiographs. Based on the intraoral periapical radiographic examination in the CS-R4 program, Group I had no gap, Group II had a gap of >0 to 2 mm, and Group III had a gap of more than 2 mm between the end of the cemented post and the remaining gutta-percha. In total, 40% (n = 87) of the teeth had no gap, 59% (127) had a gap of >0 to 2 mm, and 1% (n = 3) had a gap of more than 2 mm between the cemented post end and remaining gutta. Chi square test revealed a significant difference in the gap between the post and remaining gutta-percha between males and females students (p < 0.001). In terms of the gap between the cemented post end and the residual gutta-percha, the root canal treated teeth with post and core by undergraduates were clinically acceptable.

The aim of this study is to investigate the combined effect of a digital manufacturing technique (subtractive vs. additive), preparation taper (10° vs. 20° TOC), and finish line (chamfer vs. shoulder) on the marginal adaptation of temporary crowns following cementation with a compatible temporary cement. Four mandibular first molar typodont teeth were prepared for full coverage crowns with standard 4 mm preparation height as follows: 10° TOC with the chamfer finish line, 10° TOC with the shoulder finish line, 20° TOC with the chamfer finish line and 20° TOC with the shoulder finish line. Each of the four preparation designs were subdivided into two subgroups to receive CAD/CAM milled and 3D-printed crowns (n = 10). A total of 80 temporary crowns (40 CAD/CAM milled and 40 3D-printed) were cemented to their respective die using clear temporary recement in the standard cementation technique. The samples were examined under a stereomicroscope at ×100 magnification following calibration. Linear measurements were performed at seven equidistant points on each axial surface and five equidistant points on each proximal surface. One-way ANOVA analysis and Tukey HSD (Honestly Significance Difference) were performed. The best marginal fit was seen in group 8, while the poorest fit was noted in group 2. Shoulder finish lines and 10° TOC resulted in higher marginal gaps, especially in CAD/CAM milled group. The selection of 3D-printed crowns may provide a better marginal fit within the range of clinical acceptability. Marginal gaps were within clinical acceptability (50 and 120 µm) in all groups except group 2.

Hydrogel microneedles represent a promising approach to deliver drug molecules across skin into systemic circulation in a sustained release manner and without any polymer residue within skin. Acyclovir is an antiviral drug used for the treatment of several viral infections. However, the oral administration of acyclovir may cause gastrointestinal tract (GIT) disturbances with low bioavailability and poor patient compliance due to its requirement of five daily administrations to produce the desired effect. Therefore, it is thought that the preparation of hydrogel microneedle arrays containing acyclovir would improve the bioavailability and patient compliance by reducing the frequency of administration to once daily as well as overcome the GIT side effects associated with oral administration. A mixture of PEG 10,000 Da and PMVE/MA co-polymer 1,980,000 Da at a ratio of 1:3 (7.5%:22.5% w/w) with Na2CO3 3% w/w was found to produce the optimum hydrogel microneedle array formulation (F8) which showed suitable needle formation with an appropriate mechanical strength and excellent insertion ability, high drug content, sufficient swelling property and a sustained drug release over a period of 24 hours. The Ex vivo permeation study across human skin has demonstrated that the permeation of acyclovir from F8 hydrogel microneedle array was significantly (P≤ 0.05) increased by 39 times in comparison with microneedle-free film (control). The microneedle array has delivered 75.56% ± 4.2 of its loading dose over 24 hours, while the control film was only able to deliver 1.94% ± 0.14 of the total loading dose during the same period. Accordingly, these findings propose the potential application of hydrogel microneedle arrays for the transdermal delivery of acyclovir in a sustained release manner over 24 hours.

Background and Objectives: The present systematic review and meta-analysis undertake a comparison of studies that examine the accuracy of robot-assisted dental implant placement in relation to static computer-assisted implant surgery (SCAIS), dynamic computer-assisted implant surgery (DCAIS), and freehand procedures. This study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the precision of robot-assisted dental implant placement and its comparative efficacy in relation to other placement techniques. Methods: The guidelines recommended by Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) were used to organize and compose this review. Four electronic databases (PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and Cochrane) were systematically searched for pertinent articles. Articles were selected following the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Qualitative and quantitative analyses of the selected articles were performed. Results: The initial electronic search resulted in 1087 hits. Based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, five articles were selected for qualitative analysis, out of which three were considered for quantitative analysis. Three parameters were considered for accuracy evaluation (angular, coronal, and apical deviation). The mean angular deviation was -1.22 degrees (95% CI, -1.06--1.39), the mean coronal deviation was -0.15 mm (95% CI, -0.24--0.07), and the mean apical deviation was -0.19 mm (95% CI, -0.27--0.10). Conclusions: The robotic implant system was found to have significantly lower angular deviations and insignificantly lower coronal and apical deviations compared to DCAIS. Within the limitations of this review, it can be concluded that robot-assisted implant placement in resin models permits higher accuracy compared to DCAIS and SCAIS systems. However, due to the limited number of comparative studies with high heterogeneity, the findings of this review should be interpreted with caution. Further research is necessary to confirm the clinical application of robotics in implant surgery.

BACKGROUND: Liver diseases post-COVID-19 vaccination is extremely rare but can occur. A growing body of evidence has indicated that portal vein thrombosis, autoimmune hepatitis, raised liver enzymes and liver injuries, etc., may be potential consequence of COVID-19 vaccines. OBJECTIVES: To describe the results of a systematic review for new-onset and relapsed liver disease following COVID-19 vaccination. METHODS: For this systematic review, we searched Proquest, Medline, Embase, PubMed, CINAHL, Wiley online library, Scopus and Nature through the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta Analyses PRISMA guideline for studies on the incidence of new onset or relapsed liver diseases post-COVID-19 vaccination, published from December 1, 2020 to July 31, 2022, with English language restriction. RESULTS: Two hundred seventy-five cases from one hundred and eighteen articles were included in the qualitative synthesis of this systematic review. Autoimmune hepatitis (138 cases) was the most frequent pathology observed post-COVID-19 vaccination, followed by portal vein thrombosis (52 cases), raised liver enzymes (26 cases) and liver injury (21 cases). Other cases include splanchnic vein thrombosis, acute cellular rejection of the liver, jaundice, hepatomegaly, acute hepatic failure and hepatic porphyria. Mortality was reported in any of the included cases for acute hepatic failure (n = 4, 50%), portal vein thrombosis (n = 25, 48.1%), splanchnic vein thrombosis (n = 6, 42.8%), jaundice (n = 1, 12.5%), raised liver enzymes (n = 2, 7.7%), and autoimmune hepatitis (n = 3, 2.2%). Most patients were easily treated without any serious complications, recovered and did not require long-term hepatic therapy. CONCLUSION: Reported evidence of liver diseases post-COIVD-19 vaccination should not discourage vaccination against this worldwide pandemic. The number of reported cases is relatively very small in relation to the hundreds of millions of vaccinations that have occurred and the protective benefits offered by COVID-19 vaccination far outweigh the risks.

Summary: Congenital lipoid adrenal hyperplasia (CLAH) is characterized by a defect in the STAR protein-encoding gene that attenuates all steroidogenesis pathways. Herein, we present the first reported case in Saudi Arabia of a 46 XY, phenotypically female infant with an unfamiliar, darkened complexion compared to the family's skin color. Based on the clinical and biochemical findings, CLAH was diagnosed and glucocorticoid replacement therapy was initiated. As a result, we suggest that pediatricians should always investigate the possibility of adrenal insufficiency when encountering unusual dark skin. Learning points: Pediatricians should be prompted to rule out adrenal insufficiency in unexpectedly dark skin neonates. In such patients, pediatricians should not wait until the neonate develops an adrenal crisis. A low level of 17-hydroxyprogesterone does not always rule out the possibility of inherited adrenal gland disorders, and additional tests should be performed for early detection.

OBJECTIVES: Catamenial pneumothorax CP is a rare form of spontaneous pneumothorax in females forming part of thoracic endometriosis syndrome. Studies have suggested possible benefit from postoperative hormonal administration. As this treatment is inconsistent, we aimed at performing the first meta-analysis to study the efficacy of adding hormonal treatment after surgery to reduce the chances of recurrent catamenial pneumothorax. METHODS: CENTRAL, MEDLINE/PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Scopus were systematically searched from inception up to December 15, 2021. Studies reporting five or more patients with end point outcome were included. The main outcome assessed was postoperative recurrence of CP after hormonal manipulation. Baseline, procedural, outcome, and validity data were systematically appraised and pooled with random-effect methods. meta- regression for the effect of patient age and follow up period were tested. Publication bias was examined. This trial was registered with PROSPERO under registration number CRD42022325377. RESULTS: Our electronic search retrieved 644 citations, 48 of which were selected for full-text review. Eleven studies with a combined population of 111 patients fulfilled the inclusion criteria. All patients reached an endpoint of follow up for postoperative recurrence of catamenial pneumothorax after receiving hormonal treatment. Overall study validity was acceptable, with a median score of 6 on the Newcastle Ottawa scale NOS appraising the quality of observational studies. CP is almost always a right-side disease (107/111 = 96.3 %). The risk of postoperative recurrence with hormonal treatment was 17.3 % (8.9 - 25.8 %) with moderate non-significant heterogeneity (I2 = 40.85 %; P = 0.076). The cumulative risk of recurrence for all patients not receiving postoperative hormonal therapy included in our study was 54.2 % (19/35 patients). Meta regression showed age to be a significant predictor of postoperative recurrence (p = 0.03). As the age increases one year, the risk of recurrence decreases by 6 % (0.2 - 3 %). Publication bias was detected by visualizing the funnel plot of standard error, Egger's test with p < 0.01 and Begg & Mazumdar test with p < 0.01. CONCLUSION: The study included the largest number of CP patients with outcome findings of postoperative recurrence with hormonal treatment despite the small number of studies, non-randomised fashion and publication bias. Our findings recommend the use of hormonal manipulation after thoracic surgical intervention for catamenial pneumothorax unless evident contraindications. Younger patients are at a higher risk of recurrence after surgery.

Newly introduced provisional crowns and fixed dental prostheses (FDP) materials should exhibit good physical and mechanical properties necessary to serve the purpose of their fabrication. The aim of this systematic literature review and meta-analysis is to evaluate the articles comparing the physical and mechanical properties of 3D-printed provisional crown and FDP resin materials with CAD/CAM (Computer-Aided Designing/Computer-Aided Manufacturing) milled and conventional provisional resins. Indexed English literature up to April 2022 was systematically searched for articles using the following electronic databases: MEDLINE-PubMed, Web of Science (core collection), Scopus, and the Cochrane library. This systematic review was structured based on the guidelines given by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). The focused PICO/PECO (Participant, Intervention/exposure, Comparison, Outcome) question was: 'Do 3D-printed (P) provisional crowns and FDPs (I) have similar physical and mechanical properties (O) when compared to CAD/CAM milled and other conventionally fabricated ones (C)'. Out of eight hundred and ninety-six titles, which were recognized after a primary search, twenty-five articles were included in the qualitative analysis, and their quality analysis was performed using the modified CONSORT scale. Due to the heterogeneity of the studies, only twelve articles were included for quantitative analysis. Within the limitations of this study, it can be concluded that 3D-printed provisional crown and FDP resin materials have superior mechanical properties but inferior physical properties compared to CAD/CAM milled and other conventionally fabricated ones. Three-dimensionally printed provisional crowns and FDP materials can be used as an alternative to conventional and CAD/CAM milled long-term provisional materials.
