RESUMO

The purpose of this multicenter clinical study was to compare the mid-term clinical effectiveness of direct resin composite restorations using one-step or two-step self-etch adhesives (1-SEAs or 2-SEAs). In total, 352 restorations of class I-V cavities and non-carious cervical lesions in vital teeth (1-SEAs; 52 cases, 2-SEAs; 300 cases) were placed at nine university hospitals and evaluated according to the modified USPHS criteria at baseline, and after 1, 2, and 3 years. The recall rates were 86.6% (1 year), 80.1% (2 years), and 62.2% (3 years). Two restorations failed due to fracture during the follow-up, and there was no significant difference in survival rates between 1-SEAs (97.6%) and 2-SEAs (99.4%). However, 2-SEAs exhibited significantly lower occurrences of discoloration, marginal discoloration, fracture, and plaque retention. Moreover, the subjects reported a significantly lower postoperative hypersensitivity and higher overall satisfaction at all evaluation periods if 2-SEAs were used.

The aim of this study was the effects of different light curing methods on marginal sealing and resin composite adaptation to the cavity wall using the dye penetration test and environmental scanning electron microscope (SEM) observations. Cylindrical cavities were prepared on cervical regions. The teeth were restored with Clearfil Liner Bond 2 V adhesive and filled with Clearfil Photo Bright or Palfique Estelite resin composites. These resins were cured with a conventional light-curing method or a slow-start curing method. After thermal cycling, the specimens were subjected to the dye penetration test to evaluate marginal sealing and adaptation of the resin composites to the cavity walls. These resin-tooth interfaces were then observed using environmental SEM. The light-cured resin composite, which exhibited increased contrast ratios during polymerization, suggests high compensation for polymerization stress using the slow-start curing method. There was a high correlation between dye penetration test and environmental SEM observation.

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of the light curing method and resin composite composition on marginal sealing and resin composite adaptation to the cavity wall. Cylindrical cavities were prepared on the buccal or lingual cervical regions. The teeth were restored using Clearfil Liner Bond 2V adhesive system and filled with Clearfil Photo Bright or Palfique Estelite resin composite. The resins were cured using the conventional or slow-start light curing method. After thermal cycling, the specimens were subjected to a dye penetration test. The slow-start curing method showed better resin composite adaptation to the cavity wall for both composites. Furthermore, the slow-start curing method resulted in significantly improved dentin marginal sealing compared with the conventional method for Clearfil Photo Bright. The light-cured resin composite, which exhibited increased contrast ratios duringpolymerization, seems to suggest high compensation for polymerization contraction stress when using the slow-start curing method.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of two slow-start curing methods on acceleration of the curing of resin composite specimens at the bottom surface. The light-cured resin composite was polymerized using one of three curing techniques: (1) 600 mW/cm(2) for 60 s, (2) 270 mW/cm(2) for 10 s+0-s interval+600 mW/cm(2) for 50 s, and (3) 270 mW/cm(2) for 10 s+5-s interval+600 mW/cm(2) for 50 s. After light curing, Knoop hardness number was measured at the top and bottom surfaces of the resin specimens. The slow-start curing method with the 5-s interval caused greater acceleration of curing of the resin composite at the bottom surface of the specimens than the slow-start curing method with the 0-s interval. The light-cured resin composite, which had increased contrast ratios during polymerization, showed acceleration of curing at the bottom surface.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the relationship between cervical lesions and patient age, brushing method and bruxism based on a clinical survey of first-appointment patients. METHODS: Two hundred and nine patients (118 male, 91 female) who had unfilled cervical lesions were examined. Information on patient age, teeth with lesions, classification of the lesions, brushing method and bruxism was obtained. The data were analysed statistically. RESULTS: Cervical lesions started to develop in the first premolar teeth in the early twenties and became more prevalent with age. A habit of bruxism was associated with an increase in cervical lesions. Brushing was not directly associated with the development of cervical lesions. CONCLUSION: This study suggests that cervical lesions should be treated at an early stage to prevent further problems.

This study was a clinical trial of a one-step, total priming and bonding system, Xeno III. Thirty restorations were placed in minimally invasive V-shaped, Class V cervical cavities. Immediately after placement, baseline records were made after restorations were assessed using modified Ryge/USPHS criteria. Subsequently, restorations were evaluated at recall intervals up to 18 months. Additionally, the measurement of tensile bond strength and the FE-SEM observation of resin-tooth interface were performed in vitro. At 18 months, all restorations were classified as clinically satisfactory and assigned with an Alpha rating. Tensile bond strength of Xeno III was not significantly different from that of Clearfil SE Bond. Resin-enamel/dentin interface was very tight, with the presence of a very thin hybrid layer at the superficial dentin. Based on the results obtained, the Xeno III resin bonding system seemed promising as a one-step, self-etch adhesive.

OBJECTIVES: Resin-reinforced glass-ionomer cements were developed by adding resin components to conventional glass-ionomer cement. This improved physical properties and bonding characteristics. FujiCEM is the first paste-paste-type resin-modified glass-ionomer luting cement that enables consistent mixture. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the short-term clinical performance of FujiCEM, which was used for final cementation of indirect restorations, such as inlays, crowns, and fixed partial dentures. METHOD AND MATERIALS: A total of 290 restorations (165 crowns, 71 inlays, 15 onlays, 36 fixed partial dentures, 3 implant superstructures) were placed in 268 patients (137 males, 131 females) with a mean age of 54.4+/-13.0 years. Restorations were luted with FujiCEM mixed for 10 seconds after the teeth surfaces were treated with a conditioner containing 10% citric acid and 2% ferric chloride for 20 seconds, washed, and dried with gentle air flow. Out of the investigated 337 teeth, 99 (29%) teeth were vital, and 238 (71%) were nonvital. These restorations were followed up for a period of 21 months. All the restorations were evaluated for postoperative sensitivity, secondary caries, gingival condition, and pocket depth. RESULTS: No clinical failures (eg, dislodgment, secondary caries, irritation of soft tissue, and postoperative sensitivity) were observed. CONCLUSION: FujiCEM had promising clinical performance with inlays, crowns, onlays, fixed partial dentures, and implant superstructures at 21 months after service.
