RESUMO

In this paper, we present a silicon reflector developed through a hot plastic deformation process and used as a lightweight, high-angular-resolution x-ray mirror. We deformed the silicon substrate using conical dies with a curvature radius of 100 mm. The measured radii of the reflector were approximately 100 µm greater than the design values. Due to a gap between the die and the reflector toward the edge, it is probable that the substrate did not reach the yield point, and an elastic spring back occurred. In addition, we have evaluated the x-ray imaging capability of the plastically deformed silicon reflector for the first time, to the best of our knowledge. The estimated angular resolution is 1.76 arc min from the entire reflector, and 0.52 arc min in the best region. For the enhancement of the imaging capability, we may improve the shape of die and determine the best parameter set for the deformation.

Dendrite arm fragmentation is considered in solidification structure tailoring. Time-resolved and in situ imaging using synchrotron radiation X-rays allows the observation of dendrite arm fragmentation in Fe-C alloys. Here we report a dendrite arm fragmentation mechanism. A massive-like transformation from ferrite to austenite rather than the peritectic reaction occurs during or after ferrite solidification. The transformation produces refined austenite grains and ferrite-austenite boundaries in dendrite arms. The austenite grains are fragmented by the liquid phase that is produced at the grain boundary. In unidirectional solidification, a slight increase in temperature moves the ferrite-austenite interface backwards and promotes detachment of the primary and secondary arms at the δ-γ interface via a reverse peritectic reaction. The results show a massive-like transformation inducing the dendrite arm fragmentation has a role in formation of the solidification structure and the austenite grain structures in the Fe-C alloys.

RESUMO

Abnormal behaviors in individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders are generally believed to be irreversible. Here, we show that voluntary wheel running ameliorates the abnormalities in sociability, repetitiveness, and anxiety observed in a mouse model of a neurodevelopmental disorder induced by maternal immune activation (MIA). Exercise activates a portion of dentate granule cells, normalizing the density of hippocampal CA3 synapses, which is excessive in the MIA-affected offspring. The synaptic surplus in the MIA offspring is induced by deficits in synapse engulfment by microglia, which is normalized by exercise through microglial activation. Finally, chemogenetically induced activation of granule cells promotes the engulfment of CA3 synapses. Thus, our study proposes a role of voluntary exercise in the modulation of behavioral and synaptic abnormalities in neurodevelopmental disorders.

RESUMO

Large-aperture focusing of Al K(α) 1.49 keV x-ray photons using micropore optics made from a dry-etched 4 in. (100 mm) silicon wafer is demonstrated. Sidewalls of the micropores are smoothed with high-temperature annealing to work as x-ray mirrors. The wafer is bent to a spherical shape to collect parallel x rays into a focus. Our result supports that this new type of optics allows for the manufacturing of ultralight-weight and high-performance x-ray imaging optics with large apertures at low cost.

RESUMO

Time-resolved x-ray spectrometry using an ultrastrong x-ray source such as an x-ray free electron laser is one of the new trends in the field of x-ray physics. To achieve such time-resolved measurement, the development of an one-shot spectrometer with a wide wavelength range, high efficiency, and good energy resolution is an essential prerequisite. Here we developed an integrated conical Ge crystal analyzer consisting of several conical rings, which were connected using spline surfaces to form a single body using our previously developed hot deformation technique, which can form a Si or Ge wafer into an arbitrary and accurate shape. We simultaneously focused several characteristic lines from an alloy sample onto different positions on a small x-ray charge-coupled device with very high image brightness (gain relative to planar analyzer: 100) and a good spatial resolution of 9-13 eV. The small radius of curvature of the crystal (28-50 mm) enabled us to realize a very short sample-detector distance of 214.4 mm. The present result shows the possibility of realizing a new focusing x-ray crystal spectrograph that can control the focal position as desired.

In order to develop lightweight and high angular resolution x-ray mirrors, we have investigated hot plastic deformation of 4 in. silicon (111) wafers. A sample wafer was deformed using hemispherical dies with a curvature radius of 1000 mm. The measured radius of the deformed wafer was 1030 mm, suggesting that further conditioning is indispensable for better shaping. For the first time to our knowledge, x-ray reflection on a deformed wafer was detected at Al K(alpha) 1.49 keV. An estimated surface roughness of <1 nm from the x-ray reflection profile was comparable to that of a bare silicon wafer without deformation. Hence, no significant degradation of the microroughness was seen.

Pre-polished Ge(111) single-crystal wafers were deformed just below the melting temperature to prepare point-focusing Johansson monochromator crystals. The (111) lattice plane had curvature 2R in the focusing plane and R perpendicular to it, with a hemispherical inner surface with a radius of R = 600 mm. By using Cu Kalpha radiation, the diverging X-ray beam was focused onto a small spot.
