In experiments with rats a study was made of the influence of pregnancy and lactation as well as of trivalent and bivalent iron on the resorption of 7BeCl2 from the digestive tract and distribution thereof among organs and tissues.

[Radioprotective action of natural carotene-containing preparations: research on karotinil in white rats]. / Radiozashchitnoe deistvie prirodnykh karotinsoderzhashchikh preparatov: issledovanie karotinila na belykh krysakh.

Evidence was obtained that beta-carotene injected to rats subcutaneously or per os two times, 4 h and 19 h, before irradiation reduced their death rate from acute affection. The effect was almost invariable with the drug administered either before or after irradiation. The radioprotective efficacy of beta-carotene was attributed to its ability to scavenge active oxygen forms.

In experiments on rats a study was made of resorption from the gastrointestinal tract of simple salts, complex compounds and "biologically incorporated" forms of transuranium nuclides, the influence of age, pregnancy and chemically active substances (for instance, trivalent iron and ethyl alcohol) on this process.

[Berkelium-249 metabolism in the body of animals]. / Obmen berkliia-249 v organizme zhivotnykh.

A study was made of the kinetics of metabolism and distribution of 249Bk within the albino rat body. After the intraperitoneal administration of 249Bk nitrate, the radionuclide circulated with blood for a long time and was deposited mainly in the skeleton (up to 39.8% of the quantity administered) and liver (18.4%). The radionuclide concentrations in the adrenal glands, liver, spleen, kidneys and osseous tissue were 7.3, 3.2, 1.3, 1.1, and 1.2%, respectively, of the quantity administered per 1 g of fresh tissue. 249Bk was mainly excreted in urea. During 30 days of observation 18.2% and 10.4%, of the quantity administered, were excreted in urea and feces, respectively.

[Kinetics of americium metabolism in prolonged body uptake in rats]. / Kinetika obmena ameritsiia pri dlitel'nom postuplenii v organizm krysy.

A study was made of the kinetics of 241Am metabolism in a rat body during long-term parenteral administration thereof. It was shown that americium 241 was deposited mainly in the skeleton and liver (47% and 51%, respectively, of the total amount accumulated in the organism) and excreted in feces.

[The blastomogenic effect of 249Bk in rats]. / Blastomogennyi éffekt 249Bk u krys.

It is shown that 249Bk nitrate injected intraperitoneally in a wide range of doses to albino mongrel female rats is preferentially accumulated in the bony tissue (39.8%) and liver (18.4%). Incorporation of 249Bk to rats results in development of osteosarcomas, neoplasms of hemopoietic and lymphoid tissues, mammary tumours, thyroid and pituitary glands.

In experiments on 600 mice, relative biological effectiveness of tritium oxide was compared to that of gamma-radiation (137Cs) with respect to the response of CFUc. It was shown that RBE of tritium oxide was 1 within the dose range from 0.8 to 0.4 Gy.
