RESUMO

The identification of instability problems in freight trains circulation such as unbalanced loads is of particular importance for railways management companies and operators. The early detection of unbalanced loads prevents significant damages that may cause service interruptions or derailments with high financial costs. This study aims to develop a methodology capable of automatically identifying unbalanced vertical loads considering the limits proposed by the reference guidelines. The research relies on a 3D numerical simulation of the train-track dynamic response to the presence of longitudinal and transverse scenarios of unbalanced vertical loads and resorting to a virtual wayside monitoring system. This methodology is based on measured data from accelerometers and strain gauges installed on the rail and involves the following steps: (i) feature extraction, (ii) features normalization based on a latent variable method, (iii) data fusion, and (iv) feature discrimination based on an outlier and a cluster analysis. Regarding feature extraction, the performance of ARX and PCA models is compared. The results prove that the methodology is able to accurately detect and classify longitudinal and transverse unbalanced loads with a reduced number of sensors.

The Ligand of Ate1 (Liat1) is a protein of unknown function that was originally discovered through its interaction with arginyl-tRNA protein transferase 1 (Ate1), a component of the Arg/N-degron pathway of protein degradation. Here, we characterized the functional domains of mouse Liat1 and found that its N-terminal half comprises an intrinsically disordered region (IDR) that facilitates its liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) in the nucleolus. Using bimolecular fluorescence complementation and immunocytochemistry, we found that Liat1 is targeted to the nucleolus by a low-complexity poly-K region within its IDR. We also found that the lysyl-hydroxylase activity of Jumonji Domain Containing 6 (Jmjd6) modifies Liat1, in a manner that requires the Liat1 poly-K region, and inhibits its nucleolar targeting and potential functions. In sum, this study reveals that Liat1 participates in nucleolar LLPS regulated by Jmjd6.

BACKGROUND: The role of herbal medicine is now well documented in preventing and controlling diabetes mellitus. The main aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of walnut oil consumption on lipid profiles of hyperlipidemic patients with type 2 diabetes. METHODS: In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial, 100 hyperlipidemic type 2 diabetic patients aged 35-75 years were assigned to receive 15 cc Persian walnut oil or placebo every day for 90 days. The primary outcomes were the lipid profiles. RESULTS: Consumption of walnut oil by type 2 hyperlipidemic diabetic patients resulted in a significant decrease in total cholesterol levels (treatment difference (TD)=-30.04, P<0.001), triglyceride (TG) level (TD=-15.04, P=0.021), low-density lipoprotein (LDL) level (TD=-30.44, P<0.001) and total cholesterol to high-density lipoprotein (HDL) ratio (TD=-0.72, P<0.001) compared to the control group. There was a trend toward increasing HDL level with consumption of walnut oil (TD=2.28, P=0.06). Frequency of patients reaching a LDL level below 100 was higher in the case group (20 vs 0%). CONCLUSIONS: Addition of walnut oil in the daily diet of type 2 diabetic patients improves lipid profiles. Thus, it may be associated with a coronary artery disease risk factor modulation. Also, walnut oil may serve as a helpful natural remedy for hyperlipidemic patients with type 2 diabetes.

1. The objective of present study was to evaluate the effects of intra-amniotic injection of different probiotic strains (Bacillus subtilis, Enterococcus faecium and Pediococcus acidilactici) on the intestinal MUC2 gene expression, microbial population, growth performance and immune response in broiler chicken. 2. In a completely randomised design, different probiotic strains were injected into the amniotic fluid of the 480 live embryos (d 18 of incubation), with 4 treatments and 5 replicates. Ileal MUC2 gene expression, microbial profile, growth performance and immune response were determined. 3. Injection of probiotic strains, especially B. subtilis, had significant effect on expression of the MUC2 on d 21 of incubation and d 3 post-hatch, but not on d 19 of incubation. 4. Injection of the probiotic strains decreased significantly the Escherichia coli population and increased the lactic acid bacteria population during the first week post-hatch. 5. Inoculation of probiotics had no significant effect on antibody titres against Newcastle disease virus, antibody titres against sheep red blood cell and cell-mediated immune response of chickens compared to control. 6. In ovo injection of the probiotic strains had no significant effect on growth performance of broiler chickens. 7. It was concluded that injection of probiotic bacteria especially B. subtilis into the amniotic fluid has a beneficial effect on ileal MUC2 gene expression and bacteria population during the first week post-hatch, but has no effect on growth performance and immune response in broiler chickens.

BACKGROUND: Research in family medicine (FM) provides an important contribution to its discipline. Family medicine research can contribute to many areas of primary care, ranging from the early diagnosis to equitable health care. Publication productivity is important in academic settings as a marker for career advancement. OBJECTIVE: To describe the publications by family medicine researcher authors between 1992 and 2013. MATERIALS AND METHODS: All full text, original articles published by family medicine researcher; author with affiliation to the Suez Canal University were collected using the internet and hand search. The journals that published for family medicine researcher authors were identified. Author characteristics were described. The trend of publications was described. All articles were analyzed for their characteristics, including the themes and study designs according to predefined criteria. RESULTS: Along 22 years, 149 research articles were published by 48 family medicine authors in 39 medical journals. The largest category in publications was related to Family physician/Health service (FP-HS, n = 52 articles), followed by 'Patient' category (n = 42). All the studies were quantitative; the largest group was represented by cross-sectional studies (76.5%). CONCLUSIONS: The publication productivity by family medicine researchers are going to be increased. FP-HS and patient topics were mostly addressed in publications. Cross-sectional studies exceeded any other designs. There is need to put more emphasis on intervention studies. Continuous assessment and improvement of FM research production and publication is recommended.

OBJECTIVE: The management of antenatally diagnosed ureteropelvic junction obstruction (PUJO) is controversial. Here, we present our experience over a period of 13 years and discuss our management protocol. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We reviewed the files of 234 patients with antenatally diagnosed congenital hydronephrosis due to PUJO. Management was tailored to each patient, based on a combination of diethylenetetraminepentacetic acid renogram outcome, pelvic diameter, as well as the patient's symptoms. RESULTS: Pyeloplasty was carried out early in 52 kidneys. Of the total, 182 patients were managed expectantly. Out of these, 45 underwent delayed pyeloplasty. The remaining 137 patients (189 units) were managed non-operatively. In patients who underwent early pyeloplasty, the mean split differential renal function was 37% before and 40.05% after surgery. In those with delayed intervention, the mean renal function was 37.8% before and 42.2% after surgery. In patients who did not have surgery, the mean differential renal function was 45.7% initially and 48.2% at the last accepted follow up. The overall operative success rate was 97.9%. CONCLUSION: We believe that pyeloplasty is the proper treatment for babies with congenital PUJO and <40% split differential function and/or pelvic diameter >35 mm at the initial visit. In other patients a period of observation is warranted, and pyeloplasty should be carried out only if their kidney function deteriorates or the renogram curve does not show improvement. With the excellent results of pyeloplasty we believe that a safer approach is to operate on more kidneys rather than risk of losing valuable kidney function.
