RESUMO

Sexual hyperactivity, often linked with substantial psychological and social disturbances, remains under-researched, particularly in contexts like Iran where cultural and social norms may influence the reporting and treatment of such conditions. This study explores the therapeutic potential of cognitive rehabilitation (CR) and binaural beats (BB) in addressing this issue. The primary objective was to compare the effectiveness of CR and BB in reducing symptoms of sexual hyperactivity and associated comorbid conditions, with a focus on fluctuations in sexual desire and overall mental health. Utilizing a quasi-experimental design, the study involved pretest, posttest, and follow-up assessments to evaluate the interventions' impacts. Recruitment through social media yielded 45 participants from a larger pool, who were then assigned to either the CR group, the BB group, or a control group. The CR and BB interventions were administered over a period of 10 sessions, each lasting 20 min, 3 times a week. Significant improvements were observed in both intervention groups compared to the control group. The CR group showed a marked reduction in Sexual Addiction Screening Test (SAST) scores from an initial average of 24.87 to 6.80 at follow-up, indicating a reduction in symptoms of sexual hyperactivity. The BB group also showed improvement, with SAST scores decreasing from 19.93 to 9.57. In terms of mental health comorbidities, the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS-21) scores decreased notably in the CR group from a baseline of 8.53 to 3.07 post-intervention, and in the BB group from 10.33 to 5.80. Both interventions showed similar effectiveness in reducing anxiety and stress, with no statistically significant differences between the groups for most of the outcomes studied, affirming their potential for clinical application.

RESUMO

Cronobacter sakazakii is an opportunistic pathogen linked to outbreaks in powdered infant formula (PIF), primarily causing meningitis and necrotizing enterocolitis. Whole-genome sequencing (WGS) was used to characterize 18 C. sakazakii strains isolated from PIF (powdered infant formula) manufacturing plants (2011-2015). Sequence Type (ST) 1 was identified as the dominant sequence type, and all isolates carried virulence genes for chemotaxis, flagellar motion, and heat shock proteins. Multiple antibiotic resistance genes were detected, with all isolates exhibiting resistance to Cephalosporins and Tetracycline. A significant correlation existed between genotypic and phenotypic antibiotic resistance. The plasmid Col(pHAD28) was identified in the isolates recovered from the same PIF environment. All isolates harbored at least one intact phage. All the study isolates were compared with a collection of 96 publicly available C. sakazakii genomes to place these isolates within a global context. This comprehensive study, integrating phylogenetic, genomic, and epidemiological data, contributes to a deeper understanding of Cronobacter outbreaks. It provides valuable insights to enhance surveillance, prevention, and control strategies in food processing and public health contexts.

RESUMO

The powdered formula market is large and growing, with sales and manufacturing increasing by 120% between 2012 and 2021. With this growing market, there must come an increasing emphasis on maintaining a high standard of hygiene to ensure a safe product. In particular, Cronobacter species pose a risk to public health through their potential to cause severe illness in susceptible infants who consume contaminated powdered infant formula (PIF). Assessment of this risk is dependent on determining prevalence in PIF-producing factories, which can be challenging to measure with the heterogeneity observed in the design of built process facilities. There is also a potential risk of bacterial growth occurring during rehydration, given the observed persistence of Cronobacter in desiccated conditions. In addition, novel detection methods are emerging to effectively track and monitor Cronobacter species across the food chain. This review will explore the different vehicles that lead to Cronobacter species' environmental persistence in the food production environment, as well as their pathogenicity, detection methods and the regulatory framework surrounding PIF manufacturing that ensures a safe product for the global consumer.

RESUMO

Background and Purpose: In regard to the biosynthesis of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) by some bacteria, the objective of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of solid-state fermentation based on soybean pressed cake (SPC) to produce CLA and EPA by Bifidobacterium lactis. The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of solid-state fermentation based on SPC to produce CLA and EPA by B. lactis. Methods: Process conditions including humidity, inoculation level, and temperature parameters were optimized by adopting the response surface methodology (RSM) method (response surface method) and the design expert software. Accordingly, a homogeneous SPC paste substrate at 60, 70, and 80% humidity was prepared with different inoculation levels at 30, 37, and 44°C to assess the strain behavior. The introduced SPC consisted of 60% humidity, 2% inoculation level at 37°C, and 60% humidity, and 4% inoculation level at 30 and 44°C; it also included 6% inoculation level at 37°C, 70% humidity at 2% inoculation level, at 30 and 44°C, and 4% inoculation level at 37°C. Also, SPC with 80% humidity at 2% and 4% inoculation levels, and at 30 and 44°C was obtained. To confirm the accuracy of the conditions, an experiment was conducted according to the defined requirements. Results: The results were compared with the predicted data, which showed a significant difference. Under optimized conditions, with an inoculation level of 4% on the SPC medium with 70% humidity and at 37°C, B. lactis strains could yield 9cis-, 11 trans-linoleic and eicosapentaenoic at 0.18 and 0.39% of the total fatty acids. Conclusion: So, the potential benefits of using SPC as an inexpensive substrate for the commercial production of CLA and EPA should be noted.

RESUMO

Orexin-A (hypocretin-1) is a neuropeptide that is produced in the lateral hypothalamic area (LHA) and promotes widespread cortical activation. We investigated the effect of SB-334867, a selective orexin receptor 1 (OXR1) antagonist, on phospholipase C-ß3 (PLCß3) level using slices of rat hippocampus preparations and immunohistochemistry. We used three Wistar rats in each of three groups. The control group was untreated rats and SB vehicle and SB groups received SB vehicle and 10 mg/kg SB-334867 daily from postnatal day (PND) 12 to PND30, respectively. We found that the orexin receptor antagonist decreased the PLCß3 level in the inner and outer blades of dentate gyrus (DG) compared to SB vehicle treated rats. Orexin may increase the PLCß3 level in most regions of the rat hippocampus.

RESUMO

Salmonella contamination has been always regarded as one of the main issues in different food products especially fresh meat, while its detection time is normally beyond the shelf life of fresh products. In this paper, a 16S RNA based FISH method was developed for the detection of Salmonella in minced lamb meat. The parameters affecting the method including temperature, probe, salt and formamide concentrations, were optimized for FISH efficiency. Then the method was used to detect Salmonella in culture media and in minced lamb samples at the presence or absence of other pathogenic bacteria. The optimized condition included the probe concentration of 50 micromolar, salt concentration of 0.464 M, formamide concentration of 35%, and temperature of 60 °C. The optimized method could successfully reveal the presence of Salmonella in samples with a complex environment. The study showed that FISH could be a reliable method for the rapid and accurate detection of Salmonella in minced lamb, provided that the method parameters are at their optimal values. This method can be suggested as a convenient, rapid, and reliable method for safety assurance of fresh meat.

RESUMO

In this study, a new yeast-like fungal was obtained from leaf surfaces collected from Kheyroodkenar forest, Mazandaran, Iran. The properties of this strain, such as morphology, DNA molecular, and product showed that it is related to Aureobasidium pullulans family and named A. pullulans MG271838. The pullulan production conditions by this strain were optimized using a Box-Behnken design. The results showed that the optimum production yield (37.55 ±â€¯0.45 g/l) was obtained in pH of 6.76, sucrose concentration of 6%w/v and yeast extract concentration of 0.2%w/v. The pullulan had a concentration-dependent flow behavior, amorphous structure based on XRD pattern and high thermal stability (decomposition temperature of 300 °C). Also, the chemical structure of pullulan was confirmed by FTIR spectroscopy. In addition, there was a direct relationship between pullulan yield and the gene expression of fks, pgm and ugp as the most important genes in pullulan production.

RESUMO

In this study, the effect of acidic extraction conditions (time of 30-90 min, temperature of 75-95 °C and pH of 1.5-3) on the yield and degree of esterification (DE) of citron peel pectin was investigated applying Box-Behnken design. The highest production yield of pectin (28.31 ± 0.11%) was achieved at extraction time of 90 min, temperature of 95 °C and pH of 1.5, as optimal extraction conditions, which was close to the predicted value (29.87%). Under optimum extraction conditions, the DE and the emulsifying activity were 51.33 and 46.2%, respectively. In addition, the emulsions were 93.9 and 93.5 stable at 4 °C, 93.7 and 93.1 at 23 °C after 1 and 30 days, respectively. The determination of flow behavior showed that the pectin solutions had a Newtonian behavior at low concentrations (< 1.0% w/v), while this behavior was changed to pseudoplastic with increasing concentration.

RESUMO

In this study, the effect of aqueous extraction conditions (temperature of 70-90°C, time of 60-180min, and liquid/solid ratio (LSR) of 20-40v/w) on the yield and degree of esterification (DE) of Citrus medica peel pectin was studied using a Box-Behnken design. The highest production yield of pectin (21.85±0.35%) was obtained at temperature of 90°C, extraction time of 180min and LSR of 40v/w as optimum extraction conditions which was close to the predicted value (24.13%). In these extraction conditions, the DE and the emulsifying activity were 77.2 and 46.5%, respectively. Also, the emulsions were 90.30 and 90% stable at 4°C, and 83.87 and 83.50% at 25°C after 1 and 30days, respectively. The determination of flow behavior showed that the pectin solutions had a Newtonian behavior at low concentrations (0.1, 0.5 and 1.0%w/v), while in higher concentration (2.0%w/v), the pseudoplastic flow behavior became dominant.

RESUMO

The area of self-reinforced polymer composites is one of the fastest growing areas in engineering polymers, but until now these materials have been mainly developed on the basis of thermoplastic fibers of moderate performance. In this work, we report on a new type of self-reinforced composites based on high-performance aramid fibers to produce an "all-aramid" composite by applying a surface-dissolution method to fuse poly(p-phenylene terephthalamide) (PPTA) fibers together. After immersion in concentrated (95%) sulphuric acid (H(2)SO(4)) for a selected period of time, partially dissolved fiber surfaces were converted into a PPTA interphase or matrix phase. Following extraction of H(2)SO(4) and drying, a consolidated all-aramid composite was formed. The structure, mechanical- and thermal properties of these single-polymer composites were investigated. Optimum processing conditions resulted in unidirectional composites of high reinforcement content (approximately 75 vol %) and good interfacial bonding. The all-aramid composites featured a Young's modulus of approximately 65 GPa at room temperature, and a tensile strength of 1.4 GPa, which are comparable with or exceed the corresponding values of conventional aramid/epoxy composites. However, since fiber, matrix and interphase in all-aramid composites are based on the same high-temperature resistant PPTA polymer, a high modulus of approximately 50 GPa was maintained up to 250 degrees C, demonstrating the potential of these materials for high-temperature applications.
