RESUMO
BACKGROUND: Navigated augmented reality (AR) through a head-mounted display (HMD) has led to accurate glenoid component placement in reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) in an in-vitro setting. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the deviation between planned, intraoperative, and postoperative inclination, retroversion, entry point, and depth of the glenoid component placement during RSA, assisted by navigated AR through an HMD, in a surgical setting. METHODS: A prospective, multicenter study was conducted. All consecutive patients undergoing RSA in 2 institutions, between August 2021 and January 2023, were considered potentially eligible for inclusion in the study. Inclusion criteria were as follows: age >18 years, surgery assisted by AR through an HMD, and postoperative computed tomography (CT) scans at 6 weeks. All participants agreed to participate in the study and informed consent was provided in all cases. Preoperative CT scans were undertaken for all cases and used for 3-dimensional (3D) planning. Intraoperatively, glenoid preparation and component placement were assisted by a navigated AR system through an HMD in all patients. Intraoperative parameters were recorded by the system. A postoperative CT scan was undertaken at 6 weeks, and 3D reconstruction was performed to obtain postoperative parameters. The deviation between planned, intraoperative, and postoperative inclination, retroversion, entry point, and depth of the glenoid component placement was calculated. Outliers were defined as >5° for inclination and retroversion and >5 mm for entry point. RESULTS: Seventeen patients (9 females, 12 right shoulders) with a mean age of 72.8 ± 9.1 years (range, 47.0-82.0) met inclusion criteria. The mean deviation between intra- and postoperative measurements was 1.5° ± 1.0° (range, 0.0°-3.0°) for inclination, 2.8° ± 1.5° (range, 1.0°-4.5°) for retroversion, 1.8 ± 1.0 mm (range, 0.7-3.0 mm) for entry point, and 1.9 ± 1.9 mm (range, 0.0-4.5 mm) for depth. The mean deviation between planned and postoperative values was 2.5° ± 3.2° (range, 0.0°-11.0°) for inclination, 3.4° ± 4.6° (range, 0.0°-18.0°) for retroversion, 2.0 ± 2.5 mm (range, 0.0°-9.7°) for entry point, and 1.3 ± 1.6 mm (range, 1.3-4.5 mm) for depth. There were no outliers between intra- and postoperative values and there were 3 outliers between planned and postoperative values. The mean time (minutes : seconds) for the tracker unit placement and the scapula registration was 03:02 (range, 01:48 to 04:26) and 08:16 (range, 02:09 to 17:58), respectively. CONCLUSION: The use of a navigated AR system through an HMD in RSA led to low deviations between planned, intraoperative, and postoperative parameters for glenoid component placement.
RESUMO
The majority of the birds in different habitats are stressed due to alteration in multiple climate factors contributing to their loss. The present study has been planned to find the roosts composition of passerine birds in different major and sub-habitats of Punjab, Pakistan. In Faisalabad, of the four species, the higher number of exits was almost comparable, while Passer domesticus and Pastor roseus were more abundant than Tachycinet bicolor and Lanius cristatus. For the three remaining birds, total exits and returns were 180 for P. roseus, 181 for T. bicolor, and 179 for L. cristatus, respectively. Considering the exits in morning hours, a total of 314, 256, 246 and 210, were recorded from Sheikhupura. In Khanewal, of the four species, the highest exits and returns were that of P. domesticus (407; 451), followed by that of the P. roseus (273; 336), T. bicolor (242; 319) and L. cristatus (220; 397). The temperature imposed serious effects on roost exits for the four birds. The varied P-values which were higher (< 0.001***, < 0.001***, 0.002 **, <0.001***) appeared to limit the roost exits for them. Nonetheless, the impact of relative humidity exerted a strong influence on the T. bicolor (0.003**). In roosts return, it was seen that roost returns were even likely in warm temperatures and precipitation did not impose seriously on returns, and even in light rainfall. Nonetheless, relative humidity (RH) strongly impacted the sparrow. The T. bicolor and L. cristatus were adversely affected with the slopes (1.37) and (2.06), indicated with each percentage increase of relative humidity, and slope variations became least.

No entanto, a UR impactou fortemente o pardal. O T. bicolor e L. cristatus foram prejudicados com as declividades (1,37) e (2,06), que foram indicadas a cada percentual de aumento de UR, ao passo que as variações de declividade tornaram-se menores.

Biofilm formation can lead to various consequences in the food processing line such as contamination and equipment breakdowns. Since formation of biofilm can occur in various conditions; this study was carried out using L. monocytogenes ATCC 19112 and its biofilm formation ability tested under various concentrations of sodium chloride and temperatures. Cultures of L. monocytogenes ATCC 19112 were placed in 96-well microtitre plate containing concentration of sodium chloride from 1-10% (w/v) and incubated at different temperature of 4 °C, 30 °C and 45 °C for up to 60 h. Absorbance reading of crystal violet staining showed the density of biofilm formed in the 96-well microtitre plates was significantly higher when incubated in 4 °C. The formation of biofilm also occurs at a faster rate at 4 °C and higher optical density (OD 570 nm) was observed at 45 °C. This shows that storage under formation of biofilm that may lead to a higher contamination along the processing line in the food industry. Formation of biofilm was found to be more dependent on temperature compared to sodium chloride stress.

The pig (Sus scrofa) mitochondrial genome was targeted to design short (15-30 nucleotides) DNA markers that would be suitable for biosensor-based hybridization detection of target DNA. Short DNA markers are reported to survive harsh conditions in which longer ones are degraded into smaller fragments. The whole swine mitochondrial-genome was in silico digested with AluI restriction enzyme. Among 66 AluI fragments, five were selected as potential markers because of their convenient lengths, high degree of interspecies polymorphism and intraspecies conservatism. These were confirmed by NCBI blast analysis and ClustalW alignment analysis with 11 different meat-providing animal and fish species. Finally, we integrated a tetramethyl rhodamine-labeled 18-nucleotide AluI fragment into a 3-nm diameter citrate-tannate coated gold nanoparticle to develop a swine-specific hybrid nanobioprobe for the determination of pork adulteration in 2.5-h autoclaved pork-beef binary mixtures. This hybrid probe detected as low as 1% pork in deliberately contaminated autoclaved pork-beef binary mixtures and no cross-species detection was recorded, demonstrating the feasibility of this type of probe for biosensor-based detection of pork adulteration of halal and kosher foods.

OBJECTIVES: To determine the extent of overlapping of the internal cervical os by the lower placental edge at 11-14 weeks' gestation which best predicts placenta previa at term. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This was a prospective study initially involving 381 singleton pregnancies with a live fetus at 11-14 weeks attending for routine antenatal care. The distance between the lower placental edge and the internal cervical os was longitudinally evaluated by transvaginal ultrasound examination at 11-14 weeks', 20-24 weeks', and 30-34 weeks' gestation. The first 203 cases were selected at random (first phase) and after this period only cases with the lower placental edge reaching and/or overlapping the internal cervical os were followed up (n = 170, second phase). Thus a total of 373 cases were analyzed, 351 of whom were examined in all three trimesters. Multiple regression analysis was used to estimate the probability of predicting placenta previa at term using the overlap of the lower placental edge over the internal cervical os in the first trimester of pregnancy. RESULTS: A change in the relative position of the placenta (placental migration) was observed in all 351 cases examined in the three trimesters of pregnancy. In the general population, represented by the 203 cases (first phase), the incidence of placenta previa at 11-14 weeks' gestation was 42.3% (86/203), at 20-24 weeks' 3.9% (8/203) and at term 1.9% (4/203). A total of 18 cases of placenta previa and 17 cases of marginal placenta were observed at term. It was estimated that when the lower placental edge overlaps the internal cervical os by 23 mm at 11-14 weeks the probability of placenta previa at term is 8% with a sensitivity of 83.3% and specificity of 86.1%. CONCLUSION: The present study establishes the probability of placenta previa at term depending on the relationship of the lower placental edge to the internal cervical os at 11-14 weeks.
