RESUMO

Cervix uteri status was examined in 55 young nulliparous women in the course of triphasic oral contraception. The status of the cervix uteri was assessed on the basis of clinical, colposcopic, cytologic, and morphofunctional examinations. Triphase oral contraception with triregol was found conducive to the formation of squamous-cell metaplasia in ectopic sites, this promoting epithelialization of the cervix uteri.


PIP: The objective of this investigation was the study of clinical-morphological characteristics of the ecto- and endocervix in young nulliparous women with pseudoerosions in the course of using the 3-phase oral contraceptive (OC) Triregol made by Gedeon Richter Inc. of Hungary, which contains ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel. 55 healthy women, 17-30 years old, were observed. In the anamnesis of these women there was 1 instance of induced abortion and 1 instance of self-induced abortion. 22 women were married, and the rest were not. 2 patients had a history of inflammatory disease of the uterus and of the adnexa. In addition to routine clinical examination, echographic and dilatational colposcopy was performed in all women before starting them on the preparation. The observation was performed every 3, 6, 9, and 12 months and in the course of 1-2 months after taking the OC. A piece of tissue was taken by biopsy from the cervix and scrapings from the mucous membrane of the cervical canal for morphological examination. In 11 patients (27.5%) ectopia of varying extent was diagnosed by colposcopy, and in 27 patients (67.5%) ectopia in the transformation phase was discovered. Leukoplakia occurred in 2 patients (5%). Cervical biopsies were taken from 40 patients, and glandular pseudoerosion was discovered in 36, of whom in 18 patients fulminating and/or diffusive infiltration of lymphocytes were found in the subepithelial tissues, whereas papillary pseudoerosion was found in 2 cases. After 3 months of OC use in 2 patients full epithelization of the cervix was detected with multilayered flat epithelia. In the 2 patients with leukoplakia neither positive nor negative changes were observed. In 2 out of 40 patients a section of ripe or not ripe flat celled metaplasia in the mucous of the cervical canal and in 1 patient hyperplasia of the reserve cells were discovered. It must be underlined that in none of the observations was there a progressive pathological process nor the genesis of dysplasia detected.

PIP: The causes of precancerous and cancerous diseases of the cervix are disputed. In women with menstrual disorders usually benign cervical disease is 5 times higher. In the 1960s the theory of hormonal genesis of cervical disease was advanced as similar pathogenetic processes in the cervix, endometrium, myometrium, and breasts resulted in hyperplastic changes in these organs. Ectopia can occur during sexual maturation under the influence of sex hormones. The maximum frequency (65.5%) of ectopia occurred up to age 20. Cervical ectopia can occur under use of oral contraceptives (OCs) for 6-12 months but it vanishes after discontinuation. In a study of 17,942 women aged 18-58 increased risk of preinvasive carcinoma of the cervix was found under longterm use of OCs. Increased frequency of cervical intraepithelial neoplasm from .9/10,000 women/year to 2.2/10,000 women/year was found only under longterm (up to 8 years) of OC use. An epidemiological investigation of 47,000 women using OCs for up to 10 years concluded that there was significant increase of frequency of cervical cancer compared with nonusers. It was 4 times higher in those taking OCs for over 10 years, although longterm use reduced uterine and ovarian cancer. Adenomatous hyperplasia of the endocervix was 14 times more frequent in OC users. In a sample of 128 women, 44% of whom were OC users, 24% had microglandular hyperplasia. Under the use of the 3-phase preparation Trisiston for 6 months-1 year ectopia was diagnosed in 13.6% of women that disappeared after cessation of use. Early cancer and dysplasia disappeared in 1/3 of women taking Enovid for 6-30 months after diagnosis. OCs promote the prophylaxis against genital cancer because women taking OCs undergo gynecological and cytological examinations more often, thus precancerous changes can be diagnosed early. The optimal and the safest method of contraception has to be chosen to minimize the effect on the cervix.^ieng

RESUMO

Effect of constant magnetic field (CMF) with induction 10 T on membrane preparations of Na,K-dependent ATPase of bovine brain (lipoproteid vesicules with 300-500 A diameter) were studied. No CMF effect on the activity of Na,K-dependent ATPase was observed under different experimental conditions (three temperature points 15, 20 and 37 degrees C and great variation of Na+,K+ concentrations ratio). CMF also produced no effect on the preparations of Na,K-dependent ATPase immobilized by adsorption on millipore filters.

RESUMO

To test probable effect of the magnetic field (MF) on the dynamic structure of globular proteins the action of strong MF on proteolysis rate of methemoglobin and serum albumin with trypsin was studied. It has been found that the MF up to 10 T does not affect the proteolysis rate of these proteins and does not effect that of serum albumin with immobilized trypsin. This makes impossible consideration of the effect on the dynamic structure of globular proteins as a mechanism of the MF action on biological systems.

It is shown that BR and intermediate products of its phototransformation P600, P550 and P415 (the maximum at -196 degrees C at 419 nm) are not paramagnetic. Illumination of samples containing P415 (P419) at -- 196 degrees C with light in the region of 360-480 nm results in the formation of paramagnetic centres with a sunglet spectrum deltaH=18 Oe and g=2.002 (R1). In parallel formation of a new photoproduct P421 in the absorption spectrum is observed. During subsequent heating at -140 degrees C formation of an asymmetric signal with deltaH=45 Oe and g=2.006 and g=2.03 was observed. In the absorption spectra a dark transition. P421-P565 was observed under the same conditions. P565 differs from initial BR P570 as to its photochemical properties. R1 is identified as retinal radical, R2 as a peroxide radical of the BR-complex lipids. Paramagnetic, spectral, and photochemical properties of some products of BR transformation are compared. A scheme of oxidative-phosphorylation processes with participation of Mn ions in BR phototransformation.
