[Periosteal vacuum-stimulation as a method of acupuncture in the treatment of lumbosacral pain syndromes]. / Periosta'lnaia vakuum-stumuliatsiia--metod refleksoterapii poiasnichno-krestsovykh bolevykh sindromov.

A new technique is offered to treat the vertebrogenic lumboischialgies and lumbosacral radicular syndromes with periosteal vacuum application through tubular needles to the diseased vertebrae and sclerotomic zones. In a majority of 134 patients that underwent the combined therapy involving this technique improvement or substantial improvement was attained and documented with parametric tests (Lasseg symptom, the volume of vertebral motility, pain thresholds). The technique allowed a shortened average hospital stay of the patients and the duration of their sick leave. Some considerations are presented as to the possible mechanisms of therapeutic effect of the inttrvention.

[Treatment of vertebrogenic lumbosacral radiculitis and lumbar ischialgia by transcutaneous-cavitary electrophoresis of drugs]. / Lechenie vertebrogennykh poiasnichno-kresttsovykh radikulitov i liumboishialgii transkutanno-polostnym élektroforezom lekarstvennykh veshchestv.

The work provides grounds for use of percutaneous-cavitary electrophoresis (bipolar electrophoresis through cutaneous electrodes after intrarectal and intrasigmoid application of the drug mixture) in lumbosacral pain syndromes. The technique is described. A total of 60 patients were under investigation including those with prolonged radiculitis and lumbo-ischialgia. Substantial improvement was attained in 65% and less pronounced improvement in 25%. The immediate effect of the intervention is documented by objective parametric tests. Indications and counterindications to this treatment-accelerating technique are given.

[Dynamic 4-zone sensometry in vertebrogenic lumbosacral radiculitis and lumboischialgia]. / Dinamicheskaia chetyrekhzonal'naia sensometriia pri vertebrogennykh poiasnichno-krestsovykh radikulitakh i liumboishialgiiakh.

A total of 193 patients were studied by means of "Amplipuls" apparatus for the thresholds of tissue sensitivity and interthreshold intervals in four zones (the involved radicle, affected vertebral segment and symmetrical points of the "healthy" side) using a modified Sangailo's sensometry. The authors have identified differences of the threshold characteristics in all zones which depended on the severity of damage to the sensory nerves (according to the clinical findings) and the presence or the absence of attendant neurotic manifestations. Differences were revealed both during the initial examination and after the treatment. Practical significance of the results of the study is emphasized.

["Autohemoblock" in the treatment of lumbosacral pain syndromes]. / "Autogemoblokady" v lechenii poiasnichno-kresttsovykh bolevykh sindromov.

A total of 125 patients with vertebrogenic lumbosacral radiculities and lumbar ischialgias (in many cases they were prolonged) were treated by the authors' original technique of the intra- and subcutaneous injection of autoblood in the projection of 3 pain points or (in the absence of their accentuation) in predetermined points. The treatment was effective in 83.9% of the patients including many in whom the previous treatment with other methods showed poor response. Alleviation of pain and its objective manifestations was attended by improvement in patients' general motor activity and sleep. Additional ultrasound exposure of the sites where the blood was administered did not enhance the efficacy of the treatment. The advantages of the technique are considered.

[Intravenous novocaine block in the treatment of vertebrogenic sclerotomic and myotomic pain]. / Vnutrivennye novokainovye blokady v lechenii vertebrogennykh sklerotomnykh i miotomnykh bolei.

The authors treated 60 patients with vertebrogenic lumbosacral radiculitis and lumboischialgias accompanied by sclerotomic and myotomic pain. Intravenous procaine blockades of the legs were used for this purpose. Improvement was achieved in the majority of patients. The authors present the rationale of blockades and describe the technique of their performance, as well as contraindications for them.

[Clinico-pathogenetic polymorphism of the Tolosa-Hunt syndrome]. / O kliniko-patogeneticheskom polimorfizme sindroma Tolosy--Khanta.

The authors present the results of examining 31 patients with the Tolosa-Hunt syndrome and analyze the relevant literature data. According to the authors, the syndrome may be due to limited pachymeningitis in the area of the cavernous sinus, periarteritis (arteritis) of the carotid artery siphon and their combination with limited leptomeningitis of the same localization. Clinical polymorphism depends on the nature, degree and stage of the process as well as on the individual characteristics of the topography of the damage. The necessity of the differential treatment is emphasized.

[Asymmetries in the serum ceruloplasmin concentration of patients with spondylogenic lumbosacral radiculitis]. / Ob asimmetriiakh v soderzhanii tseruloplazmina v syvorotke krovi bol'nykh spondilogennym poiasnichno-kresttsovym radikulitom.

The levels of ceruloplasmin in the serum of blood taken from the veins of the back side of the foot were determined in 66 patients with the radicular syndrome of lumbar osteochondritis and in 7 normal subjects (control). In the patients, the level of ceruloplasmin was significantly elevated, especially on the side of the pain syndrome and, hence, Lasegue's sign was also more pronounced. In patients without pain lateralization, an increase in ceruloplasmin levels was symmetrical. In a protracted course of the pain syndrome and at the end of the treatment the ceruloplasmin concentrations were decreased.

[Trans-cerebral electrophoresis of L-DOPA in the complex treatment of parkinsonism]. / Transtserebral'nyi élektroforez L-DOPA v kompleksnom lechenii parkinsonizma.

Based on the established electrophoretic mobility of L-DOPA and on pathogenetic assumptions, the authors carried out multiple modality treatment employing transcerebral L-DOPA electrophoresis in 48 patients with postencephalic and atherosclerotic parkinsonism. The majority of patients (43 subjects) showed an improvement of various degrees, particularly when rigidity and oligo- and bradykinesia were predominant in the clinical picture of the disease. Of the 48 patients treated, 29 received L-DOPA per os and 19 patients were given low drug doses. The therapeutic effect persisted from 2 weeks to 2-3 months.
