RESUMO

(1) Background: The present study measures the fear of COVID-19 among hospital healthcare workers and identifies several factors associated with increasing fear of COVID-19. (2) Methods: A cross-sectional, hospital-based survey was conducted on healthcare workforce recruited from the National Hospital of Tropical Diseases from 1 October 2021 and 20 October 2021. We selected the participants who have been directly involved in diagnosing, treating, or providing nursing care to patients with COVID-19. The primary data was collected via sending the invitation directly to the participants, utilizing structured self-completed questionnaires. The seven-item fear of COVID-19 scale was used to measure the data. The responses of 208 hospital healthcare workers were included in the final analysis. (3) Results: Total score of COVID-19 fear was 19.62 (SD = 5.22). The COVID-19 fear score of 7 items ranged from 2.38 (SD = 0.83) to 3.21 (SD = 0.96). The lowest and highest scores were the item 'My hands become clammy when I think about Corona' and the item 'I am most afraid of corona' was the highest, respectively. Linear regression of the COVID-19 fear showed that the factors positively correlated with the fear of COVID-19 among hospital healthcare workers were: being influenced by the community (p = 0.001), feeling at very high risk of COVID-19 (p = 0.03), and experiencing traumatic stress with an academic event (p = 0.042). (4) Conclusions: Although these findings merit further elaboration, these preliminary findings suggest relatively great fear of the COVID-19 pandemic among Vietnamese hospital healthcare workers and that social and personal connections are necessary for maintaining the mental wellbeing.

RESUMO

A liquid marble (LM) is a droplet coated with microparticles that isolate the liquid interior from its surroundings, making it perfectly non-wetting. This attractive feature allows the LM to perform useful tasks such as coalescence, targeted delivery, and controlled release. The non-wetting characteristic also allows the LM to float on a carrier liquid. The growing number of applications in digital microfluidics requires further insights into the fundamental properties of a LM such as its effective surface tension. Although the coating provides the LM with various desirable characteristics, its random construction presents a major obstacle to accurate optical analysis. This paper presents a novel method to measure the effective surface tension of a floating LM using X-ray imaging and curve fitting procedures. X-ray imaging reveals the true LM liquid-air interface hidden by the coating particles. Analysis of this interface showed that the effective surface tension of a LM is not significantly different from that of its liquid content. This indicates that the particle coating might not have significantly altered the behaviour of the liquid interface. We also found that our method is sensitive enough to detect the variations across individual LMs.

RESUMO

(1) Background: This study aims to assess the magnitude of, and factors associated with, depression and anxiety among Vietnamese frontline hospital healthcare workers in the fourth wave of COVID-19; (2) Methods: A hospital based cross-sectional study was carried out within two weeks, October 2020, at a central COVID-19 treatment hospital. Depression and anxiety were measured with PHQ-9 and GAD-7, respectively. Bivariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis were applied to recognize variables related to depression and anxiety, respectively; (3) Results: Among 208 frontline hospital healthcare workers, overall prevalence of depressive symptoms, anxiety symptoms, and both symptoms of depression and anxiety was 38.94%, 25.48% and 24.04%, respectively, in healthcare workers. In a reduced model after using multivariate stepwise logistic regression, age (OR = 0.9, p = 0.001), marital status (OR = 7.84, p = 0.027), profession (OR = 0.39, p = 0.028), having experienced traumatic stress following a work event (OR = 46.24, p < 0.001), feeling at very high risk for COVID-19 (OR = 0.02, p < 0.04), and affected by workplace conditions (OR = 5.36, p < 0.001) were associated with the symptoms of depression. With regard to symptoms of anxiety, single status (OR: 12.18, p = 0.002), being medical technician (OR: 68.89, p < 0.001), alcohol use (OR: 6.83, p = 0.014), using pain relief medications (OR: 25.50, p = 0.047), having experienced traumatic stress following a family event (OR: 130.32, p = 0.001), having experienced traumatic stress following a work event (OR: 181.55, p = 0.002), reporting at very high risk for COVID-19 (OR: 29.64, p = 0.011), treating moderate (OR: 6.46, p = 0.038) and severe (OR: 18.96, p = 0.004) COVID-19 patients, and being significantly affected by the community (OR: 6.33, p = 0.003) were increased risk factors for the symptoms of anxiety. Meanwhile, those living with 4-5 people (OR: 0.15, p = 0.011), specializing in infectious disease (OR: 0.13, p = 0.044)/resuscitation and emergency medicine (OR: 0.04, p = 0.046), and having knowledge preparation before participating in COVID-19 (OR: 0.008, p = 0.014) were less associated with the symptoms of anxiety; (4) Conclusions: There was a relatively high prevalence among Vietnamese hospital healthcare workers exhibiting symptoms of depression and anxiety during the ongoing pandemic. Greater attention to training in psychological skills should be suggested for those belonging to a younger age group, being single/widowed/divorced, treating moderate and severe COVID-19 patients, feeling at very high risk for COVID-19, being significantly affected a lot the community or workplace conditions, or experiencing traumatic stress following a family/work event in the past week.

RESUMO

Recently great attention has been paid to the rejuvenation of the face, neck, and décolleté of women with advanced radial fractional radiofrequency. We aimed to clinically evaluate the results obtained with this treatment method. We treated 10 women aged 42 to 62, suffering from skin aging. After carrying out the hydration and sebometry skin tests in each patient, collecting the medical history and taking photographs of the face and décolleté in the standard projections, a questionnaire was submitted to each patient. Finally, we have submitted the patients to one session of application of radiofrequency energy, by an Italian device named "Thuzzle" (GMV, Rome, Italy). The obtained results show a high effectiveness in improving the texture and tone of skin, decreasing micro wrinkles and spot reduction. Advanced radial fractional radiofrequency treatment method shows promising results. Further studies are required to confirm the findings.

RESUMO

In this study, we report our multicentric experience of synthetic medical certified polyamide hair implants in male androgenetic, female menopausal, and chronic alopecia. Biofibre hair implantation was performed by means of a standardized, mini-invasive technique followed by regular postoperative care along 3 years. From May 2015, 278 patients were enrolled and 253 completed the trial; 202 men (79.9%) versus 51 women (20,1%). The average age was 43(± 4.29); 179 patients (70.1%) had taken previous treatments for alopecia. We evaluated efficacy (as judged by Hamilton scale grading, covered area percent, surgeon, and patient's subjective evaluation) and safety (as judged by adverse events). The overall scalp surface restored with artificial hair (mm2 spaced) and pre-postoperative general customers' satisfaction (by Hamilton scale grading) are reported, showing a significant (98,14%) subjective and objective improvement of the self-image. Twenty-two cases (8.75%) declared minor side effects generally counteracted by topical or short course systemic antibiotic and anti-inflammatory treatment. The average number of implanted fibers was 2,295 (SD 2.805; SE 200.9) ranging from 300 to 16,000. The average duration of pain and tenderness at the implant area was 2.2 days (SD 4.096; SE 0.2933) ranging from 1 to 20 days. A diagrammatic comparison of the Hamilton scale grading before and after the trial showed a dramatic improvement with the majority of the patients being in Hamilton grade II after implantation.

RESUMO

The P.N.E.I. (Psycho-Neuro-Endocrine-Immunology) approach is represented by the interdisciplinary concept of bidirectional cross-talk between the psycho-neuro-endocrine and immune systems, which can influence the immune response. The well-known Gut-Brain Axis and the Gut-Skin Axis can be merged in a bigger network- the Gut-Brain-Skin Axis, with complex regulation by cytokines, neuro-peptides, neuro-hormones and another messenger (signalling) molecules and maybe the most important modulator of the Gut-Brain-Skin Axis/ the gut microbiota. The role of gut bacterial homeostasis is very important, and the homeostatic imbalance of the immune response may be a relevant etiologic/pathophysiologic factor for extra-intestinal and intestinal inflammatory, allergic and autoimmune diseases. The Low Dose Cytokines Medicine (LDM) is an innovative therapeutic approach. It is based on the most advanced knowledge in molecular biology and low dose pharmacology with the primary outcome. The SKA (Sequential Kinetic Activation) technology, codified and standardised by GUNA S.p.a. -Italy- makes the low doses of signalling molecules able to be active even below the minimum dose classically considered as effective and the significative efficacy of orally administered low-dose signalling molecules is the most representative aspect of LDM. The Physiologic Nutraceuticals and the Low Dose Medicine are two of the most promising approaches for the treatment of skin diseases based on the rebalance of the immune response and the recovery of gut dysbiosis.

RESUMO

Incidence of melanoma is increasing every year. A few years ago, we could not speak about long term survivors with melanoma. Chemotherapy did not give a good effect in the past. Metastasis occurred very rapidly, and the progression of melanoma was very fast. But now, with new forms of therapy, especially immunotherapy and target therapy, for the first time, we have long-time survivors. For the prognosis of melanoma, the most important is the stage in which melanoma is detected. For all dermatologists, it is very important to be aware of the psychological impact of melanoma on patients. Dermatologists should recognise psychological disorders. Several different scales can be used for the detection of depression and anxiety - some of them are completed by researchers, some of them are completed by patients, and also, we have combined scales. The need for adequate social and family support as well as psychological help to achieve better coping with illness is necessary. Learning techniques to overcome fear and stress would help in better functioning of all affected, regardless of the stage of the disease. The most severe cases of anxiety and depression, in addition to psychotherapeutic interventions, should also be considered medication therapy.

RESUMO

There are numerous cases reports and studies confirming the enhanced incidence of melanoma among patients with mastocytosis, especially with systemic mastocytosis. These two diseases are arising from two different types of cells; melanoma arises from neural crest cells and mastocytosis from hematopoietic stem cells. But there are a lot of similarities between the two diseases. The most important and significant is the dependence of the growth factor receptor c-KIT and c-KIT ligand (stem cell factor) for their growth and development. Also, expression of the STAT3 (signal transducer and activator of transcription 3) and transcription factors MITF (microphthalmia-associated transcription factor) make the connection between melanoma and mastocytosis.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To assess whether exposure to wastewater is a risk factor for dermatitis (eczema) among farmers engaged in peri-urban aquatic food production in Hanoi, Vietnam. METHODS: A cross-sectional study with two follow-ups was conducted from April to December 2005 in two peri-urban communes in Hanoi, one using wastewater and another using river, rain and well water for aquatic food production. In each commune, 100 households were randomly selected and adult household members engaged in farming field work were interviewed in three surveys. Farmers who reported skin problems at the time of interviews were examined and treated by a dermatologist. Data were analysed for one farmer per household. RESULTS: The overall prevalence of dermatitis from 592 interviews was 6.3%. The commune which used wastewater had a much higher overall prevalence of dermatitis (10.4%) than the commune that did not (2.1%; P-value < 0.001). Multivariable logistic regression analyses showed that occupational wastewater contact was an important risk factor for dermatitis (odds ratio [OR] 3.0; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.1-7.7). Duration of daily wastewater contact was not significantly associated with dermatitis. Aquaculture work in the wet season carried an increased risk of dermatitis in both communes (OR 2.8; 95% CI 1.02-7.6). The use of personal protective measures during field work and washing hands and feet after work did not reduce the risk for dermatitis. However, observations showed that these practices were applied in such a way that they were unlikely to provide effective protection against wastewater contact. CONCLUSION: Contact with wastewater is an important risk factor for dermatitis among farmers engaged in wastewater-fed peri-urban aquatic food production. Additional studies should test preventive and mitigating measures such as improved personal protection and hygiene.
