RESUMO

A highly selective Ga-modified zeolite BEA for propane dehydrogenation has been synthesized by grafting Ga on Zn-BEA followed by removal of Zn in the presence of H2. A propene selectivity of 82% at 19% propane conversion illustrates the high selectivity at 813 K. The kinetic model of the catalyzed dehydrogenation including the elementary steps of propane adsorption, first and second C-H bond cleavage, and propene and H2 desorption demonstrates that the propane dehydrogenation rate is determined by the first C-H bond cleavage at low pC3H8, while at high pC3H8, the rate is limited by the desorption of H2. The active sites have been identified as dehydrated and tetrahedrally coordinated Ga3+ in the *BEA lattice. The low selectivity toward aromatics is concluded to be associated with the high Lewis acid strength of lattice Ga3+ and the low Brønsted acid strength of the hydrated Ga sites.

RESUMO

This paper highlights the synthesis of a one-dimensional (1D) hierarchical material mesosilica/palygorskite (Pal) composite and evaluates its adsorption performance for anionic dye methyl orange (MO) in comparison with Pal and Mobile crystalline material-41 (MCM-41). The Mesosilica/Pal composite is consisted of mesosilica coated Pal nanorods and prepared through a dual template approach using cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) and Pal as soft and hard templates, respectively. The composition and structure of the resultant material was characterized by a scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmissionelectron microscopy (TEM), N2 adsorption-desorption analysis, small-angle X-Ray powder diffraction (XRD), and zeta potential measurement. Adsorption experiments were carried out with different absorbents at different contact times and pH levels. Compared with Pal and MCM-41, the mesosilica/Pal composite exhibited the best efficiency for MO adsorption. Its adsorption ratio is as high as 70.4%. Its adsorption equilibrium time is as short as 30 min. Results testify that the MO retention is promoted for the micro-mesoporous hierarchical structure and positive surface charge electrostatic interactions of the mesosilica/Pal composite. The regenerability of the mesosilica/Pal composite absorbent was also assessed. 1D morphology makes it facile to separate from aqueous solutions. It can be effortlessly recovered and reused for up to nine cycles.

RESUMO

The production of aromatic platform chemicals from biomass-derived feedstocks is of considerable importance in biomass conversion. However, the development of effective routes with simple steps and under mild conditions is still challenging. In this work, we report an original route for the direct synthesis of p-xylene from 2,5-dimethylfuran and acrylic acid catalyzed by scandium(III) triflate (Sc(OTf)3 ) in 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ([Emim]NTf2 ) under mild conditions. An overall 63 % selectivity towards p-xylene and 78 % selectivity towards aromatics were obtained at 90 % conversion of 2,5-dimethylfuran by enhancing the dehydration and introducing an extra one-pot decarboxylation step. Furthermore, various dienes and dienophiles were employed as reactants to extend the substrate scope. The aromatic compounds were obtained in moderate yields, which proved the potential of the method to be a generic approach for the conversion of bio-based furanics into renewable aromatics.

RESUMO

Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization (ATRP) has been a powerful tool to synthesize well-defined functional polymers, which are widely used in biology, drug/gene delivery and antibacterial materials, etc. However, the potential toxic residues in polymer reduced its service life and limited its applications. In order to overcome the problem, in this work, a novel polymerization system of activators generated by electron transfer for atom transfer radical polymerization (AGET ATRP) for synchronous separation of the metal catalyst and byproduct of reducing agent was developed, using thiol-grafted cellulose paper (Cell-SH) as a solid reducing agent. The polymerization kinetics were investigated in detail, and the "living" features of the novel polymerization system were confirmed by chain-end analysis and chain extension experiment for the resultant polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). It is noted that the copper residual in obtained PMMA was less than 20 ppm, just by filtering the sheet-like byproduct of the reducing agent.

RESUMO

While the photopatterning of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) has been extensively investigated, much less attention has been given to highly ordered multilayer systems. By being both thicker (0.5-2 µm) and more stable (cross-linked) than SAMs, patterned hybrid multilayers lend themselves more easily to the development of technology-relevant materials and characterization. This paper describes a facile two-step UV approach to patterning an alkylsilane multilayer by combining photoinduced self-assembly for multilayer synthesis and photodegradation through a mask for creating patterns within the film. In this second stage, a spatially resolved removal of the alkyl tail via a photooxidation mechanism took place, yielding regular and uniform silica microdomains. The result was a regular array of features (alkylsiloxane/silica) differing in chemical composition (hybrid/inorganic), ordering (crystal-like/disordered), and wettability (hydrophobic/hydrophilic). Such a photopatterned film was of utility for a range of applications in which water droplets, inorganic crystals, or aqueous polymer dispersions were selectively deposited in the hydrophilic silica microwells.

RESUMO

Despite considerable achievements over the last two decades, nonporous organic-inorganic hybrid materials are mostly amorphous, especially in the absence of solvothermal processes. The organosilane self-assembly approach is one of the few opportunities for creating a regular assembly of organic and inorganic moieties. Additionally, well-established organosilicon chemistry enables the introduction of numerous organic functionalities. The synthesis of periodically ordered hybrids relies on mono-, bis-, or multisilylated organosilane building blocks self-assembling into hybrid mesostructures or superstructures, subsequently cross-linked by siloxane Si-O-Si condensation. The general synthesis procedure is template-free and one-step. However, three concurrent processes underlie the generation of self-organized hybrid networks: thermodynamics of amphiphilic aggregation, dynamic self-assembly, and kinetically controlled sol-gel chemistry. Hence, the set of experimental conditions and the precursor structure are of paramount importance in achieving long-range order. Since the first developments in the mid-1990s, the subject has seen considerable progress leading to many innovative advanced nanomaterials providing promising applications in membranes, pollutant remediation, catalysis, conductive coatings, and optoelectronics. This work reviews, comprehensively, the primary evolution of this expanding field of research.

RESUMO

Surface photopatterning of organosilane self-assembled monolayers (SAM) has received increasing attention since its introduction 20 years ago. Herein we report for the first time a cost-efficient soft photopatterning technique affording amplified 3D multilayer structures. The essential chemistry relies on a spatially controlled photoacid-catalyzed hydrolysis and polycondensation of n-alkyltrimethoxysilane precursors (n-C(12)H(25)Si(OCH(3))(3),). Amphiphilic siloxane species are photogenerated locally and are able to self-assemble spontaneously into a long-range-ordered lamellar mesostructure.

RESUMO

We describe a novel solvent- and water-free sol-gel process for n-octadecyltriclorosilane (C(18)H(37)SiCl(3)) film catalyzed by photogenerated Brönsted acids. Driven by hydrophobic van der Waals interactions, a photoinduced self-assembly process occurs to afford a long-range ordered lamellar mesostructure, characterized by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. Real-time Fourier transform IR spectroscopy was instrumental to probe the fast hydrolysis kinetics and assess the change of conformational behavior of the alkyl chains during UV irradiation. A unique combination of different solid-state NMR techniques ((29)Si, (13)C, (1)H) provided an insight into the supramolecular organization of this hybrid film.
