Men suffering from liver cirrhosis were examined. They demonstrated a decrease in the blood content of gonadotropic hormones and testosterone and a rise of estradiol and prolactin. The changes indicated were more pronounced in decompensated liver cirrhosis and were associated with lipid peroxidation activation and a reduction of the count of T suppressor lymphocytes. As a result, the treatment of men suffering from decompensated liver cirrhosis and hyperprolactinemia by parlodel lowered blood prolactin and activity of lipid peroxidation. The use of chorionic gonadotropin for the treatment of men with decompensated liver cirrhosis and a low content of blood lutropin produces an immunomodulatory effect. Parlodel and chorionic gonadotropin favour a decrease of the cytolytic syndrome.

A study was made of the level of medium molecular peptides (MMP) and lipid peroxidation (LRO) activity in 36 patients with Basedow's disease of various degrees of severity and in patients with functional diseases of the nervous system. A statistically significant rise of the blood level of MMP in patients with Basedow's disease was established with relation to a group of healthy persons and patients with functional diseases of the nervous system. Correlations were found between the blood level of MMP, LPO activity and absorption of radioactive iodine by the thyroid. The blood level of MMP should be used as a screening test for clinico-laboratory diagnosis to differentiate between Basedow's disease and functional diseases of the nervous system.

An increase in the activity of lipid peroxidation was established in patients with chronic hepatitis and liver cirrhosis. They were noted in parallel with marked disorders of indices of cellular immunity and collagen metabolism. The relationship between lipid peroxidation and the main pathogenetic mechanisms of chronic hepatitis and liver cirrhosis (the immunological ones and fibrosis formation) was established.

[Treatment of chronic hepatitis patients with catergen]. / Lechenie bol'nykh khronicheskim gepatitom katergenom.

The authors analyse the results of the treatment of patients with chronic active hepatitis of moderate activity with catergen as compared with basic therapy including dietetic management, polyvitamins, and essentiale. The treatment efficacy was evaluated according to the time-course of changes in subjective sensations of the patients, objective data of the clinical and laboratory studies. It was established that catergen produced a beneficial effect on the time-course of both subjective and objective characteristics in patients with chronic active hepatitis, while the drug therapeutic activity was found to be higher as compared with essentiale and basic therapy.
