RESUMO

Ball-milling using neat grinding (NG) or liquid-assisted grinding (LAG) by varying the polarity of the solvents allowed access to various drug-drug solid forms of pioglitazone hydrochloride (PGZ·HCl) and rosuvastatin calcium (RSV). Using NG, the coamorphous form was formed from the reaction of pioglitazone hydrochloride (PGZ·HCl) and rosuvastatin calcium (RSV) in a 2:1 molar ratio. The formation of the expected coamorphous salt could not be corroborated by FT-IR, but DSC data showed that it was indeed a single-phase amorphous mixture. By varying the molar ratios of the reactants, either keeping PGZ·HCl constant and varying RSV or vice versa, another coamorphous form was obtained when a 1:1 molar ratio was employed. In the case of the other outcomes, it was observed that they were a mixture of solid forms coexisting simultaneously with the coamorphous forms (1:1 or 2:1) together with the drug that was in excess. When RSV was in excess, it was in an amorphous form. In the case of PGZ·HCl, it was found in a semicrystalline form. The intrinsic dissolution rates (IDRs) of the solid forms of PGZ·HCl-RSV in stoichiometric ratios (1:1, 2:1, 1:4, 6:1, and 1:10) were evaluated. Interestingly, a synchronized release of both drugs in the dissolution medium was observed. In the case of the release of RSV, there were no improvements in the dissolution profiles, because the acidic media caused the formation of degradation products, limiting any probable modification in the dissolution processes. However, the coamorphous 2:1 form exhibited an improvement of 1.03 times with respect to pure PGZ·HCl. It is proposed that the modification of the dissolution process of the coamorphous 2:1 form was limited by changes in the pH of the media as RSV consumes protons from the media due to degradation processes.

RESUMO

A facile and versatile process to produce lithium metasilicate (Li2SiO3) from non-conventional silicon sources (two different sand sources from the central area of México) was developed. The synthesis protocol based on a solid-state reaction followed by a hydrothermal treatment resulted in highly pure lithium metasilicate, as corroborated by XRD, SEM-EDS, and XPS analysis. Furthermore, lithium metasilicate was used as a heterogeneous catalyst for biodiesel production from soybean oil, where conversion yields were compared according to the silicon source used (based on chemical purity, stability, and yield efficiency). The best performing metasilicate material displayed a maximum of 95.5% of biodiesel conversion under the following conditions: 180 min, 60 °C, 5% catalyst (wt./wt., catalyst-to-oil), and 18:1 (methanol:oil). This contribution opens up alternatives for the production of lithium metasilicate using non-conventional precursors and its use as an alternative catalyst in biodiesel production, displaying better chemical stability against humidity than conventional heterogeneous catalysts.

RESUMO

The synthesis of four derivatives and the single-crystal X-ray structures of six 9-trifluoromethylxanthenediols (TFXdiols) I-VI are analyzed in this work. These compounds were obtained through superacid-catalyzed condensation of dihydroxybenzenes with 1,1,1-trifluoroacetone or 2,2,2-trifluoroacetophenone. The title molecules have a convex molecular structure due to their three fused rings of the xanthene moiety. We have found that, similar to resorcinol, the configuration of the hydroxyl groups is of great relevance for the crystal packing favoring either interactions above and below their molecular plane or lateral interactions that create layers. Considering that reports of TFXdiols are very scarce, our findings contribute to a better understanding of the molecular conformation and intermolecular interactions in their crystal structures. A similar analysis was extended to a fortuitous cocrystal obtained between 9-trifluoromethyl-9-(4'-fluorophenyl)-xanthenediol and 1,4-dihydroxybenzene, showing that these structures might be used to obtain cocrystals in the future.

RESUMO

High performance organogel polyelectrolytes were synthesized by super acid catalyst step-growth polycondensation of isatin and the non-activated multiring aromatic p-terphenyl. Subsequently, a chemical modification reaction was carried out to obtained quaternary ammonium functionalized polyelectrolytes through a nucleophilic substitution reaction with (3-bromopropyl)trimethylammonium bromide and potassium carbonate at room temperature. Different functionalization degrees were obtained by controlling the molar ratio of the polymer and the modification agent. The organogel polyelectrolytes were formed due to the high phase segregation and self-assembling observed owing to the amphiphilic character of the material (hydrophobic backbone and hydrophilic fragment grafted). The organogel polyelectrolytes were used to fabricate supercapacitors using two commercial graphite electrodes. These polyelectrolytes displayed good ionic conductivity without the use of another doping agent such as salts, acids or ionic liquids. In this work, a strong correlation of functionalization degree and ionic conductivity of the polyelectrolytes and capacitance of the supercapacitors was observed. The ionic conductivity of the polyelectrolytes reached 0.46 mS cm-1 for the 100% functionalization degree, meanwhile the polyelectrolyte with the 10% functionalization degree shows 0.036 mS cm-1. Li-doped polyelectrolytes showed higher ionic conductivity due the presence of extra ionic charges (2.26 and 0.2 mS cm-1 for the polyelectrolytes with the 100% and 10% of functionalization degree, respectively). The principal novelty of this work lies in the possibility of modulating the ionic conductivity of organogels and the capacitance of supercapacitors by chemical modifications. The capacitance of the supercapacitors was 1.17 mF cm-2 for the 100% functionalized polyelectrolyte and is higher in comparison with the polyelectrolyte with 10% functionalization degree (0.68 mF cm-2) measured at a discharge current of 52 µA cm-2 by galvanostatic charge discharge technique. Additionally, when lithium salt (lithium triflate) was added, the polyelectrolytes retained a gel consistency, increasing the ionic conductivity and capacitance. For the doped polyelectrolytes, the areal capacitance reaches 1.37 mF cm-2 for the 100% functionalization degree polyelectrolyte with lithium triflate. These organogel polyelectrolytes open the possibility to design flexible and all solid-state supercapacitors without the risk of leakage.

RESUMO

Novel, linear, high-molecular-weight single-strand heteroaromatic polymers and copolymers containing 9H-xanthene moieties in the backbone were synthesized by metal-free superacid-catalyzed stoichiometric and nonstoichiometric step-growth polymerizations of carbonyl compounds bearing electron-withdrawing substituents with bisphenols. The electrophilic aromatic substitution reactions of ketones with phenol fragments occur exclusively in ortho-positions to the hydroxy phenol group and followed by highly efficient cyclodehydration reaction of hydroxyl-containing intermediates to give corresponding substituted 9H-xanthene-2,7-diyl polymers. The polymerizations were performed at room temperature in the Brønsted superacid trifluoromethanesulfonic acid (CF3SO3H, TFSA) and in a mixture of TFSA with methylene chloride and nitrobenzene.
