RESUMO

Carrier multiplication (CM) in semiconductors, the process of absorbing a single high-energy photon to form two or more electron-hole pairs, offers great potential for the high-response detection of high-energy photons in the ultraviolet spectrum. However, compared to two-dimensional semiconductors, conventional bulk semiconductors not only face integration and flexibility bottlenecks but also exhibit inferior CM performance. To attain efficient CM for ultraviolet detection, we designed a two-terminal photodetector featuring a unilateral Schottky junction based on a two-dimensional γ-InSe/graphene heterostructure. Benefiting from a strong built-in electric field, the photogenerated high-energy electrons in γ-InSe, an ideal ultraviolet light-absorbing layer, can efficiently transfer to graphene without cooling. It results in efficient CM within the graphene, yielding an ultrahigh responsivity of 468 mA/W and a record-high external quantum efficiency of 161.2% when it is exposed to 360 nm light at zero bias. This work provides valuable insights into developing next-generation ultraviolet photodetectors with high performance and low-power consumption.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy (HAIC) has been proven to be an ideal choice for treating unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (uHCC). HAIC-based treatment showed great potential for treating uHCC. However, large-scale studies on HAIC-based treatments and meta-analyses of first-line treatments for uHCC are lacking. AIM: To investigate better first-line treatment options for uHCC and to assess the safety and efficacy of HAIC combined with angiogenesis inhibitors, programmed cell death of protein 1 (PD-1) and its ligand (PD-L1) blockers (triple therapy) under real-world conditions. METHODS: Several electronic databases were searched to identify eligible randomized controlled trials for this meta-analysis. Study-level pooled analyses of hazard ratios (HRs) and odds ratios (ORs) were performed. This was a retrospective single-center study involving 442 patients with uHCC who received triple therapy or angiogenesis inhibitors plus PD-1/PD-L1 blockades (AIPB) at Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center from January 2018 to April 2023. Propensity score matching (PSM) was performed to balance the bias between the groups. The Kaplan-Meier method and cox regression were used to analyse the survival data, and the log-rank test was used to compare the suvival time between the groups. RESULTS: A total of 13 randomized controlled trials were included. HAIC alone and in combination with sorafenib were found to be effective treatments (P values for ORs: HAIC, 0.95; for HRs: HAIC + sorafenib, 0.04). After PSM, 176 HCC patients were included in the analysis. The triple therapy group (n = 88) had a longer median overall survival than the AIPB group (n = 88) (31.6 months vs 14.6 months, P < 0.001) and a greater incidence of adverse events (94.3% vs 75.4%, P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: This meta-analysis suggests that HAIC-based treatments are likely to be the best choice for uHCC. Our findings confirm that triple therapy is more effective for uHCC patients than AIPB.

RESUMO

Knowledge graphs have been commonly used to represent relationships between entities and utilized in the industry to enhance service qualities. As knowledge graphs integrate data from a variety of sources, they can also be useful references for data analysts. However, there is a lack of effective tools to make the most of the rich information in knowledge graphs. Existing knowledge graph exploration systems are ineffective because they didn?t consider various users? needs and the characteristics of knowledge graphs. Exploratory approaches specifically designed for uncovering and summarizing insights in knowledge graphs have not been well studied yet. In this paper, we propose KGScope that supports interactive visual explorations and provides embedding-based guidance to derive insights from knowledge graphs. We demonstrate KGScope with usage scenarios and assess its efficacy in supporting knowledge graph exploration with a user study. The results show that KGScope supports knowledge graph exploration effectively by providing useful information and aiding comprehensive exploration.

RESUMO

The future of workspace is significantly shaped by the advancements in technologies, changes in work patterns and workers' desire for an improved well-being. Co-working space is an alternative workspace solution, for cost-effectiveness, the opportunity for diverse and flexible design and multi-use. This study examined the human-centric design choices using spatial and temporal variation of occupancy levels and user behaviour in a flexible co-working space in London. Through a machine-learning-driven analysis, we investigated the time-dependent patterns, decompose space usage, calculate seat utilisation and identify spatial hotspots. The analysis incorporated a large dataset of sensor-detected occupancy data spanning 477 days, comprising more than 140 million (145×106) data points. Additionally, on-site observations of activities were recorded for 13 days spanning over a year, with 110 time instances including more than 1000 snapshots of occupants' activities, indoor environment, working behaviour and preferences. Results showed that the shared working areas positioned near windows or in more open, connected and visible locations are significantly preferred and utilised for communication and working, and semi-enclosed space on the side with less visibility and higher privacy are preferred for focused working. The flexibility of multi-use opportunity was the most preferred feature for hybrid working. The findings offer data-driven insights for human-centric space planning and design of office spaces in the future, particularly in the context of hybrid working setups, hot-desking and co-working systems.

RESUMO

Whether Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection is associated with periodontitis has been contested for decades. The relationship between H. pylori genotypes and periodontitis has not been clarified either. The present study provides a novel perspective to better understand the role of H. pylori in the pathogenesis of periodontitis. A total of 53 volunteers were recruited and divided into 3 groups in this cross-sectional study, namely the periodontally healthy group (15 participants), the stage I/II periodontitis group (20 participants) and the stage III/IV periodontitis group (18 participants). DNA from the subgingival plaque of all participants was extracted and PCR was performed using specific primers for the urease C gene and cytotoxin-associated gene A (cagA)/vacuolating cytotoxin gene A (vacA) to detect the presence and genotype of H. pylori. A χ2 test and one-way ANOVA were performed on the data. There was no significant difference in sex, age or body mass index between the groups. The detection rate of H. pylori was 39.62% in the total population and increased with the deepening of probing depth and clinical attachment loss. There were significant differences in the detection rate of H. pylori among the three groups, with 13.33, 40.00 and 61.11% in the periodontally healthy, stage I/II periodontitis and stage III/IV periodontitis groups, respectively (χ2=8.760, P<0.001). The cagA-/vacAs2m2 genotype was most commonly detected in the periodontally healthy group (100%). In the periodontitis group, cagA+/vacAs1m2 was the most commonly detected genotype in the stage I/II periodontitis group (37.5%) and cagA+/vacAs1m1 in the stage III/IV periodontitis group (36.3%). The results of the present study suggest that the detection rates and genotypes of H. pylori in the subgingival plaque are associated with the status of periodontitis. cagA+/vacAs1m1 and cagA+/vacAs1m2 may be considered virulence markers of periodontitis. However, given the small sample size and lack of correlation analysis of the study, further larger scale and high-quality clinical trials are required to confirm these findings.

RESUMO

Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is the sixth most prevalent malignancy worldwide. Accumulating evidence suggests that persistent HPV infection is closely related to a subset of HNSCC types, and the incidence of human papillomavirus (HPV)-positive HNSCC has been annually increasing in recent decades. Although the carcinogenesis of HPV-positive HNSCC has not been completely elucidated, it has been well confirmed that E6 and E7, the main viral oncoproteins are responsible for the maintenance of malignant transformation, promotion of cell proliferation, and increase in tumor invasion. Moreover, compared with HPV-negative HNSCC, HPV-positive HNSCC shows some special clinical-pathological features, which are possibly related to HPV infection and their specific regulatory mechanisms. Non-coding RNA (ncRNA) is a class of RNA lacking the protein-coding function and playing a critical regulatory role via multiple complex molecular mechanisms. NcRNA is an important regulatory pattern of epigenetic modification, which can exert significant effects on HPV-induced tumorigenesis and progression by deregulating downstream genes. However, the knowledge of ncRNAs is still limited, hence, a better understanding of ncRNAs could provide some insights for exploring the carcinogenesis mechanism and identifying valuable biomarkers in HPV-positive HNSCC. Therefore, in this review, we mainly focused on the expression profile of ncRNAs (including lncRNA, miRNA, and circRNA) and explored their regulatory role in HPV-positive HNSCC, aiming to clarify the regulatory mechanism of ncRNAs and identify valuable biomarkers for HPV-positive HNSCC.

RESUMO

A rhodium-catalyzed tandem arylation/cyclization reaction of 3-(ortho-boronated aryl) conjugated enones with unactivated alkynes is reported. By using a rhodium(I)/chiral-diene complex as the catalyst, the protocol was processed smoothly to provide various 2,3-disubstituted indene compounds in high yields with excellent regioselectivities and enantioselectivities. The approach outlined herein is appealing, as simple diarylalkynes, diakylalkynes, and alkyl(aryl)alkynes are the starting materials.

RESUMO

The miniaturization of electronic devices and power systems for capacitive energy storage under harsh environments requires scalable high-quality ultrathin high-temperature dielectric films. To meet the need, ultrasonic spray-coating (USC) can be used. Novel polyimides with a dipolar group, CF3 (F-PI), and all-organic composites with trace organic semiconductor can serve as models. These scalable high-quality ultrathin films (≈2.6 and ≈5.2 µm) are successfully fabricated via USC. The high quality of the films is evaluated from the micro-millimeter scale to the sub-millimeter and above. The high glass transition temperature Tg (≈340 °C) and concurrent large bandgap Eg (≈3.53 eV) induced by weak conjugation from considerable interchain distance (≈6.2 Å) enable F-PI to be an excellent matrix delivering a discharge energy density with 90% discharge efficiency Uη90 of 2.85 J cm-3 at 200 °C. Further, the incorporation of a trace organic semiconductor leads to a record Uη90 of ≈4.39 J cm-3 at 200 °C due to the markedly enhanced breakdown strength caused by deep charge traps of ≈2 eV. Also, a USC-fabricated multilayer F-PI foil capacitor with ≈85 nF (six layers) has good performance at 150 °C. These results confirm that USC is an excellent technology to fabricate high-quality ultrathin dielectric films and capacitors.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Asthma is a heterogeneous disease with variable symptoms, which presents with cough either as the sole or predominant symptom with or without wheezing. We compared the clinical and pathophysiological characteristics of cough predominant asthma (CPA), cough variant asthma (CVA) and classic asthma (CA) in order to determine any differential phenotypic traits. METHODS: In 20 clinics across China, a total of 2088 patients were finally recruited, including 327 CVA, 1041 CPA and 720 CA patients. We recorded cough and wheezing visual analogue scale, Leicester cough questionnaire (LCQ) and asthma control test scores. Fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO), induced sputum cell counts, and capsaicin cough challenge were also measured and compared. RESULTS: CPA patients more frequently presented with cough as the initial symptom, and laryngeal symptoms (p < 0.001), had less symptoms related with rhinitis/sinusitis and gastroesophageal reflux (p < 0.05) than CA patients. Comorbidities including rhinitis and gastroesophageal reflux were similar, while the proportion of COPD and bronchiectasis was higher in CA patients. There were no differences in FeNO levels, sputum eosinophil and neutrophil counts, FEV1 (%pred) decreased from CVA to CPA to CA patients (p < 0.001). Cough sensitivity was higher in CVA and CPA compared to CA (p < 0.001), and was positively correlated with LCQ scores. CONCLUSIONS: CVA, CPA and CA can be distinguished by the presence of laryngeal symptoms, cough sensitivity and airflow obstruction. Asthma-associated chronic cough was not associated with airway inflammation or comorbidities in our cohort. RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The data in regard of the clinical characteristics and diagnosis of somatic cough syndrome in adults were limited. The aim of this study was to fill that gap. METHODS: This was a retrospective analysis of patients with somatic cough syndrome. We described clinical characteristics of adult patients with somatic cough syndrome. RESULTS: Twenty-three somatic cough syndrome patients were identified in 543 adult patients with chronic cough. Psychiatric disorder of these patients was identified as anxiety (n = 8), obsessive-compulsive (n = 7), somatoform (n = 6), depression (n = 3), and cognitive bias (n = 1). Twelve patients showed abnormal results of investigations related with common causes of chronic cough, including gastroesophageal reflux, sputum eosinophilia, bronchial hyper-responsiveness, or signs of sinusitis but did not respond to the treatments directed to those conditions. All these patients were ever misdiagnosed as other causes of chronic cough. Compared to 520 non-somatic cough syndrome patients, patients with somatic cough syndrome were younger (32 (29.0-43.0) vs 42.0 (32.0-55.0) years, p = 0.013), longer disease duration (48.0 (19.5-102.0) vs 24.0 (9.0-72.0) months, p = 0.037), more common in dry cough (100% vs 57.6%, p < 0.001), and lower proportion of nocturnal cough (13.0% vs 40.2%, p = 0.009). Common cold (60.9%) was the most common initial trigger of cough and itchy throat (60.9%) was the most common accompanying symptom in patients with somatic cough syndrome. Notably, there were similar distribution in cough triggers and accompanying symptoms between two groups. CONCLUSION: In spite of much higher proportion of dry cough and smaller proportion of nocturnal cough, adult patients with somatic cough syndrome show similar clinical characteristics with other chronic cough patients, in regard of cough triggers, accompanying symptoms as well as abnormal results of investigations, which should be an important reason for misdiagnosis of somatic cough syndrome. Psychiatric disorder should be addressed in clinical management of chronic cough.

RESUMO

The pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) at the beginning of 2020 has restricted the human population indoor with some allowance for recreation in green spaces for social interaction and daily exercise. Understanding and measuring the risk of COVID-19 infection during public urban green spaces (PUGS) visits is essential to reduce the spread of the virus and improve well-being. This study builds a data-fused risk assessment model to evaluate the risk of visiting the PUGS in London. Three parameters are used for risk evaluation: the number of new cases at the middle-layer super output area (MSOA) level, the accessibility of each public green space and the Indices of Multiple Deprivation at the lower-layer super output area (LSOA) level. The model assesses 1357 PUGS and identifies the risk in three levels, high, medium and low, according to the results of a two-step clustering analysis. The spatial variability of risk across the city is demonstrated in the evaluation. The evaluation of risk can provide a better metric to the decision-making at both the individual level, on deciding which green space to visit, and the borough level, on how to implement restricting measures on green space access.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: This study explored and analyzed the application value of oXiris- endotoxin adsorption technology in patients with sepsis. METHODS: 23 sepsis patients hospitalized from January 2018 to September 2019 in our ICU center and received oxiris-endotoxin adsorption were enrolled as the observation group, and another 30 sepsis patients hospitalized during the same period were selected as the control group who treated with routine continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT). The heart rate, respiratory rate, norepinephrine (NE) dosage, lactic acid, procalcitonin (PCT), urine volume, and sofa scores that evaluate organ failure after systemic infection, as well as ICU stay, organ support duration, and incidence of cardiovascular events were compared between the two groups before and after treatment. RESULTS: The heart rate, respiratory rate and NE dosage of the two groups post-treatment were dramatically lower than those pre-treatment (P<0.05), and these indexes in observation group after treatment were critically lower than those in control group (P<0.05). The lactic acid, PCT, urine volume and sofa scores of the two groups were dramatically lower than those before treatment (P<0.05), and the indexes in observation group after treatment were notably lower than those in control group (P<0.05). The degree of serum IL-6, IL-10 and endotoxin in two groups after operation decreased remarkably than that before treatment (P<0.05), and the observation group had obviously lower indicator degree than the control group (P<0.05). The ICU stay, organ support duration, and incidence of cardiovascular events in the observation group were notably lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: compared with the traditional CRRT technology, the oXiris membrane based CRRT technology can effectively improve the hemodynamic indicators of patients with sepsis, reduce the level of inflammation, and improve the metabolic function of body, thereby improving the patients' organ function. It has good clinical application value in patients with sepsis.

RESUMO

While public green spaces (PGS) are opined to be central in the pandemic recovery, higher accessibility to PGS also mean a higher risk of infection spread from the raised possibility of people encountering each other. This study explores the distributive effects of accessibility of PGS on the COVID-19 cases distribution using a geo-spatially varying network-based risk model at the borough level in London. The coupled effect of social deprivation with accessibility of the PGS was used as an adjustment factor to identify vulnerability. Results indicate that highly connected green spaces with high choice measure were associated with high risk of infection transmission. Socially deprived areas demonstrated higher possibility of infection spread even with moderate connectivity of the PGS. The study demonstrated that only applying a uniform social distancing measure without characterising the infrastructure and social conditions may lead to higher infection transmission.

RESUMO

Large roughness and structure disorder in ferroelectric ultrathin Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) film results in severe space scatter in electrical, ferroelectric and piezoelectric characteristics, thus limiting the nanoscale research and reliability of nano-devices. However, no effective method aiming at large-area uniform organic ferroelectric LB film has ever been reported to date. Herein, we present a facile hot-pressing strategy to prepare relatively large-area poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) LB film with ultra-smooth surface root mean square (RMS) roughness is 0.3 nm in a 30 µm × 30 µm area comparable to that of metal substrate, which maximized the potential of LB technique to control thickness distribution. More importantly, compared with traditionally annealed LB film, the hot-pressed LB film manifests significantly improved structure uniformity, less fluctuation in ferroelectric characteristics and higher dielectric and piezoelectric responses, owing to the uniform dipole orientation and higher crystalline quality. Besides, different surface charge relaxation behaviors are investigated and the underlying mechanisms are explained in the light of the interplay of surface charge and polarization charge in the case of nanoscale non-uniform switching. We believe that our work not only presents a novel strategy to endow PVDF LB film with unprecedented reliability and improved performance as a competitive candidate for future ferroelectric tunnel junctions (FTJs) and nano electro mechanical systems (NEMS), but also reveals an attracting coupling effect between the surface potential distribution and nanoscale non-uniform switching behavior, which is crucial for the understanding of local transport characterization modulated by band structure, bit signal stability for data-storage application and the related surface charge research, such as charge gradient microscopy (CGM) based on the collection of surface charge on the biased ferroelectric domains.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is the second generation of platelet concentrates and is used in many areas of dentistry. However, whether PRF is effective for alveolar ridge preservation remains controversial. The authors conducted research to evaluate the potential of PRF to preserve the alveolar ridge. METHODS: A comprehensive literature search was conducted in MEDLINE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and Embase. Only randomized controlled trials were included. A systematic review was made for postoperative pain, soft-tissue healing, bone density, horizontal and vertical ridge dimension changes, and histologic analysis. The meta-analysis was performed on the alveolar osteitis, mesial and distal bone height changes, and bone fill with Review Manager Version 5.3 software. RESULTS: Among the 588 eligible articles found in the initial search, 7 published studies from 2012 through 2019 were included. The authors' qualitative analysis showed that PRF may play a positive role in reducing postoperative pain and ridge dimension changes after tooth extraction. Among the 7 articles, only 2 trials assessed the effect of PRF on the alveolar osteitis, mesial and distal bone height changes, and bone fill. Results of our meta-analysis showed that smaller mesial bone height changes (standard mean difference, -1.07; 95% confidence interval, -1.92 to 0.22) and a greater percentage of bone fill (standard mean difference, 0.82; 95% confidence interval, 0.32 to 1.33) were observed in the PRF group. CONCLUSIONS: Given the potential value of PRF, consideration should be given to PRF after tooth extraction. However, more high-quality trials are necessary to evaluate the exact role of PRF. PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS: Based on the authors' results, the usage of PRF was suggested in alveolar ridge preservation.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis), one of the main pathogenic bacteria involved in periodontitis, induces the expression of intercellular adhesion molecule - 1 (ICAM-1) and monocyte-endothelial cell adhesion. This effect plays a pivotal role in atherosclerosis development. Macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) is a multifunctional cytokine and critically affects atherosclerosis pathogenesis. In this study, we tested the involvement of MIF in the P. gingivalis ATCC 33277-enhanced adhesive properties of endothelial cells. RESULTS: Endothelial MIF expression was enhanced by P. gingivalis ATCC 33277 infection. The MIF inhibitor ISO-1 inhibited ICAM-1 production in endothelial cells, and monocyte-endothelial cell adhesion was induced by P. gingivalis ATCC 33277 infection. However, the addition of exogenous human recombinant MIF to P. gingivalis ATCC 33277-infected endothelial cells facilitated monocyte recruitment by promoting ICAM-1 expression in endothelial cells. CONCLUSIONS: These experiments revealed that MIF in endothelial cells participates in the pro-atherosclerotic lesion formation caused by P. gingivalis ATCC 33277 infection. Our novel findings identify a more detailed pathological role of P. gingivalis ATCC 33277 in atherosclerosis.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Cough is one of common symptoms of influenza, the cough duration and prevalence of postinfectious cough (PIC) after viral upper respiratory tract infection has not been well described. OBJECTIVES: We aim to investigate the duration of cough and prevalence of PIC and its relation with acute symptoms, airway inflammation and cough sensitivity in patients with H1N1 influenza. METHODS: Patients with acute symptoms of H1N1 influenza were enrolled and followed up until cough relived. Spirometry, induced sputum test, capsaicin challenge test were conducted in patients with PIC. Cough sensitivity was presented as logarithm of provocative concentration inducing five or more coughs (logC5). RESULTS: A total of 141 cases with H1N1 influenza were enrolled. In patients with H1N1 influenza, 97.2% of them complained cough. The duration of cough was as following: <1 week (73.0%); 1-2 weeks (7.8%); 2-3 weeks (7.8%); ≥3 weeks (8.5%). Twelve (8.5%) patients had cough lasting more than 3 weeks (PIC), 4 (2.8%) patients developed chronic cough (>8 weeks). Acute symptoms, spirometry, bronchial responsiveness and sputum differential cell count were similar between patients with PIC and those without PIC, however, there was a higher prevalence of previous PIC (58.3% vs 14.7%, P < 0.05) and elevated cough sensitivity (lgC5: 1.18 ± 0.58 vs 2.73 ± 0.33, P < 0.01) in patients with PIC as compared with the patients without PIC. CONCLUSIONS: Acute cough is common in patients with H1N1 PIC, only a few of patients develop chronic cough. Acute symptoms cannot predict PIC which is related with previous PIC and increased cough sensitivity.

RESUMO

In this paper, we define a new problem related to social media, namely, the data-driven engineering of social dynamics. More precisely, given a set of observations from the past, we aim at finding the best short-term intervention that can lead to predefined long-term outcomes. Toward this end, we propose a general formulation that covers two useful engineering tasks as special cases, namely, pattern matching and profit maximization. By incorporating a deep learning model, we derive a solution using convex relaxation and quadratic-programming transformation. Moreover, we propose a data-driven evaluation method in place of the expensive field experiments. Using a Twitter dataset, we demonstrate the effectiveness of our dynamics engineering approach for both pattern matching and profit maximization, and study the multifaceted interplay among several important factors of dynamics engineering, such as solution validity, pattern-matching accuracy, and intervention cost. Finally, the method we propose is general enough to work with multi-dimensional time series, so it can potentially be used in many other applications.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To investigate the impact of S.gordonii on the ultrastructure of P. gingivalis biofilm and on the amount of P. gingivalis in biofilm. METHODS: P. gingivalis and/or S.gordonii grew on the culture slides to form single P. gingivalis biofilm and heterotypic biofilm of P.gingivalis-S.gordonii. Then the ultrastructure of the 2 kinds of film were examined by scanning electron microscope, and the amount of P. gingivalis in the biofilm was detected by qPCR. Statistical analysis was performed using pair t test with SPSS 13.0 statistical package. RESULTS: At 72 h, the amount of heterotypic biofilm was much more than that of the single P. gingivalis biofilm. Moreover, the structure of the heterotypic biofilm was more regular and with more pore space compared to the single P. gingivalis biofilm. Compared to single P. gingivalis biofilm, the amount of P. gingivalis in heterotypic biofilm was 5.4, 3.8 and 4.4 fold at 24, 48 and 72 h, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: The growth of P. gingivalis was promoted by S. gordonii in the form of heterotypic biofilm compared to single P. gingivalis biofilm.

RESUMO

Cough is one of the most common complaints for which patients seek medical attention. Misdiagnosis and mistreatment of cough exist commonly in China. The prevalence of acute cough caused by upper airway infection fluctuates between 9% and 64% in the community, for chronic cough, the prevalence >10% in most surveys, ranging from 7.2%-33%. The common causes of chronic cough are upper airway cough syndrome (previously called as post nasal drip syndrome [PNDS]), cough variant asthma (CVA), gastroesophageal reflux related cough (GERD) and eosinophilic bronchitis (EB). There is a regional discrepancy regarding the prevalence of common causes of cough and distribution of gender among China, UK, USA, the most common cause of chronic cough in China are CVA, followed by UACS, EB and atopic cough (AC), the male is almost equal to female in numbers in China. The risk factors for cough includes cold air, smoking, environmental pollutants, noxious substances and allergens, and unreasonable diet habits.
