RESUMO

Objective: To investigate the relationship between maternal folic acid (FA) supplementation during the pre-conceptional and prenatal periods and the subsequent risk of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in offspring. Methods: A total of 6,049 toddlers aged 16-30 months were recruited from August 2016 to March 2017 for this cross-sectional study conducted in China. The parents of the enrolled toddlers provided information on maternal supplemental FA, socio-demographic information, and related covariates. Standard diagnostic procedures were implemented to identify toddlers with ASD. Results: Among the 6,049 children included in the study, consisting of 3,364 boys with an average age of 22.7 ± 4.1 months, a total of 71 children (1.2%) were diagnosed with ASD. Mothers who did not consume FA supplements during the prenatal period were found to have a significantly increased risk of having offspring with ASD, in comparison to those who were exposed to FA supplements (odds ratio [OR] = 2.47). However, we did not find a similar association during the pre-conceptional period. Compared to mothers who consistently used FA supplements from pre-conception to the prenatal period, those who never used FA supplements were statistically significantly associated with a higher risk of ASD in their offspring (OR = 2.88). Conclusion: This study indicated that providing continuous maternal FA supplementation during the pre-conceptional and prenatal periods may decrease the risk of ASD in offspring. The prenatal period is considered to be the most crucial time for intervention.

RESUMO

Radiological heart damage (RIHD) is damage caused by unavoidable irradiation of the heart during chest radiotherapy, with a long latency period and a progressively increasing proportion of delayed cardiac damage due to conventional doses of chest radiotherapy. There is a risk of inducing diseases such as acute/chronic pericarditis, myocarditis, delayed myocardial fibrosis and damage to the cardiac conduction system in humans, which can lead to myocardial infarction or even death in severe cases. This paper details the pathogenesis of RIHD and gives potential targets for treatment at the molecular and cellular level, avoiding the drawbacks of high invasiveness and immune rejection due to drug therapy, medical device implantation and heart transplantation. Injectable hydrogel therapy has emerged as a minimally invasive tissue engineering therapy to provide necessary mechanical support to the infarcted myocardium and to act as a carrier for various bioactive factors and cells to improve the cellular microenvironment in the infarcted area and induce myocardial tissue regeneration. Therefore, this paper combines bioactive factors and cellular therapeutic mechanisms with injectable hydrogels, presents recent advances in the treatment of cardiac injury after RIHD with different injectable gels, and summarizes the therapeutic potential of various types of injectable hydrogels as a potential solution.

RESUMO

Achieving efficient uranium adsorption from highly acidic wastewater is still considered challenging. Here, an inorganic-organic hybridized self-assembly material (rPFE-10) with redox activity was constructed by phytic acid (PA), ethylenediamine (EDA), and Fe(II) via a facile one-pot route, and further applied for U(VI) removal. In the static adsorption experiment, rPFE-10 achieved the maximum U(VI) adsorption capacity of 717.1 mg/g at the optimal pH of 3.5. It also performed preeminently in a highly acidic condition of pH = 1.0, with the highest adsorption capacity of 551.2 mg/g and an equilibrium time of 30 min. Moreover, rPFE-10 exhibited a pH-responsive adsorption selectivity for U(VI) and An-Ln (S(U(VI)) and S(An-Ln)), which increased to 69 % and 94 % respectively as pH decreased from 3.0 to 1.0. Additionally, the spectral analysis revealed a reconstruction mechanism induced by multiple synergistic adsorption, in which U(VI) exchange with EDA+/2+ and Fe2+/3+ and earned suitable coordination geometry and ligand environment to coordinate with PA (mainly P-OH), while partial U(VI) is reduced by Fe(II) in framework. This work not only highlights the facile strategy for enhanced U(VI) retention in highly acidic solution, but expands the potential application of supramolecular self-assembly material in treatment of nuclear wastewater.

RESUMO

ß-Ionone and ß-cyclocitral are two typical components in cyanobacterial volatiles, which can poison aquatic plants and even cause death. To reveal the toxic mechanisms of the two compounds on aquatic plants through programmed cell death (PCD), the photosynthetic capacities, caspase-3-like activity, DNA fragmentation and ladders, as well as expression of the genes associated with PCD in Lemna turionifera were investigated in exposure to ß-ionone (0.2 mM) and ß-cyclocitral (0.4 mM) at lethal concentration. With prolonging the treatment time, L. turionifera fronds gradually died, and photosynthetic capacities gradually reduced and even disappeared at the 96th h. This demonstrated that the death process might be a PCD rather than a necrosis, due to the gradual loss of physiological activities. When L. turionifera underwent the death, caspase-3-like was activated after 3 h, and reached to the strongest activity at the 24th h. TUNEL-positive nuclei were detected after 12 h, and appeared in large numbers at the 48th h. The DNA was cleaved by Ca2+-dependent endonucleases and showed obviously ladders. In addition, the expression of 5 genes (TSPO, ERN1, CTSB, CYC, and ATR) positively related with PCD initiation was up-regulated, while the expression of 2 genes (RRM2 and TUBA) negatively related with PCD initiation was down-regulated. Therefore, ß-ionone and ß-cyclocitral can poison L. turionifera by adjusting related gene expression to trigger PCD.

RESUMO

Cyanobacterial blooms cause serious environmental issues, and plant secondary metabolites are considered as new algaecide for controlling them. Cinnamomum camphora produces a wide spectrum of terpenoids and has 4 main chemotypes, including linalool, camphor, eucalyptol and borneol chemotype. To develop the new cyanobacterial algaecide by using suitable chemotype of Cinnamomum camphora and the main terpenoids, we analyzed the terpenoid composition in the 4 chemotype extracts, evaluated the algicidal effects of the extracts and their typical monoterpenoids on Microcystis aeruginosa, and investigated the algicidal mechanism of the stronger algicidal agents. Among the 4 chemotypes, eucalyptol and borneol chemotype extracts exhibited stronger algicidal effects. In the 4 chemotype extracts, monoterpenoids were the main compounds, of which linalool, camphor, eucalyptol and borneol were the typical components. Among the 4 typical monoterpenoids, eucalyptol and borneol showed stronger algicidal effects, which killed 78.8% and 100% M. aeruginosa cells, respectively, at 1.2 mM after 48 h. In 1.2 mM eucalyptol and borneol treatments, the reactive oxygen species levels markedly increased, and the caspase-3-like activity also raised. With prolonging the treatment time, M. aeruginosa cells gradually shrank and wrinkled, and the cell TUNEL fluorescence intensity and DNA degradation gradually enhanced, indicating that the lethal mechanism is causing apoptosis-like programmed cell death (PCD). Therefore, eucalyptol and borneol chemotype extracts and their typical monoterpenoids have the potential for developing as algaecides to control cyanobacteria through triggering apoptosis-like PCD.

RESUMO

Though considerable progress has been achieved on gas molecule recognition by electronic nose (e-nose) comprised of nonselective (metal oxide) semiconductor chemiresistors, extracting adequate molecular features within short time (<1 s) remains a big obstacle, which hinders the emerging e-nose applications in lethal or explosive gas warning. Herein, by virtue of the ultrafast (∼20 µs) thermal relaxation time of self-heated WO3-based chemiresistors fabricated via oblique angle deposition, instead of external heating, self-heating temperature modulation has been proposed to generate sufficient electrical response features. Accurate discrimination of 12 gases (including 3 xylene isomers with the same function group and molecular weight) has been readily achieved within 0.5-1 s, which is one order faster than the state-of-the-art e-noses. A smart wireless e-nose, capable of instantaneously discriminating target gas in ambient air background, has been developed, paving the way for the practical applications of e-nose in the area of homeland security and public health.

RESUMO

The removal and recovery of uranium [U(VI)] from organic containing wastewater has been a challenging in radioactive wastewater purification. Here, we designed a polyamine/amidoxime polyacrylonitrile fiber (PAN-AO-A) with high removal efficiency, excellent selectivity, excellent organic resistance and low cost by combining the anti-organic properties of amidoxime polyacrylonitrile fiber (PAN-AO-A) with the high adsorption capacity of polyamine polyacrylonitrile fiber, which is used to extract U(VI) from low-level uranium-containing wastewater with high ammonia nitrogen and organic content. PAN-AO-A adsorbent with high grafting rate (86.52%), high adsorption capacity (qe = 618.8 mg g-1), and strong resistance to organics and impurity interference is achieved. The adsorption rate of U(VI) in both real organic and laundry wastewater containing uranium is as high as 99.7%, and the partition coefficients (Kd) are 7.61 × 105 mL g-1 and 9.16 × 106 mL g-1, respectively. The saturated adsorption capacity of PAN-AO-A in the continuous system solution can reach up to 505.5 mg g-1, and the concentration of U(VI) in the effluent is as low as 1 µg L-1. XPS analysis and Density functional theory (DFT) studies the coordination form between U(VI) and PAN-AO-A, where the most stable structure is η2-AO(UO2)(CO3)2. The -NH-/-NH2 and -C(NH2)N-OH groups of PAN-AO-A exhibit a synergistic complex effect in the U(VI) adsorption process. PAN-AO-A is a material with profound influence and limitless potential that can be used for wastewater containing U(VI) and organic matter.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: In vitro fenestration of stent-graft (IVFS) demands high-precision navigation methods to achieve optimal surgical outcomes. This study aims to propose an augmented reality (AR) navigation method for IVFS, which can provide in situ overlay display to locate fenestration positions. METHODS: We propose an AR navigation method to assist doctors in performing IVFS. A deep learning-based aorta segmentation algorithm is used to achieve automatic and rapid aorta segmentation. The Vuforia-based virtual-real registration and marker recognition algorithm are integrated to ensure accurate in situ AR image. RESULTS: The proposed method can provide three-dimensional in situ AR image, and the fiducial registration error after virtual-real registration is 2.070 mm. The aorta segmentation experiment obtains dice similarity coefficient of 91.12% and Hausdorff distance of 2.59, better than conventional algorithms before improvement. CONCLUSIONS: The proposed method can intuitively and accurately locate fenestration positions, and therefore can assist doctors in performing IVFS.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the relationship between infant feeding practices and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) among children aged 2-5 years in the United States (US). METHODS: Data from the 2016-2020 National Survey of Children's Health, a nationally representative cross-sectional survey, were utilized for this study. Questionnaires were administered to parents of children aged 2-5 years to gather information on ASD diagnosis, infant feeding practices, and demographic factors (e.g., child sex, ethnic group, and maternal age at birth). Logistic regression with sample weights was employed to assess the association between infant feeding practices and ASD, while controlling for demographic variables. Polynomial regression models were used to examine trends in exclusive breastfeeding and ever breastfeeding rates among children with and without ASD. RESULTS: A total of 35,050 children aged 2-5 years were analyzed, including 616 diagnosed with ASD, after excluding participants with missing information on breastfeeding and ASD diagnosis. Of these children with ASD, 76.6% (n = 472) had a breastfeeding history, with 67.5% (n = 416) engaged in partial breastfeeding and 9.1% (n = 56) exclusively breastfed. Adjusted odds ratios for each additional month of breastfeeding compared to never being breastfed were 0.98 (95% CI, 0.96-1.01). The adjusted odds ratios for breastfeeding durations of > 0-6 months, > 6-12 months, > 12-24 months, and > 24 months were 0.81 (95% CI, 0.50-1.31), 0.65 (95% CI, 0.36-1.18), 0.81 (95% CI, 0.44-1.49), and 0.48 (95% CI, 0.23-1.01), respectively. Compared to children who were never breastfed, the adjusted odds ratio for children who were ever breastfed was 0.74 (95% CI, 0.47-1.18). Among children with ASD, the proportion of ever breastfeeding declined from 82.0% in 2017 to 64.3% in 2020, while exclusive breastfeeding decreased from 12.0% in 2016 to 4.2% in 2020. CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: Although no significant association was found between infant feeding practices and ASD among US children aged 2-5 years, the rates of breastfeeding, particularly exclusive breastfeeding, were suboptimal among children with ASD. This highlights the need for specific policies and practices to promote and support breastfeeding among parents of children with ASD or those at high risk of having a child with ASD.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: To investigate the incidence, causes, and risk factors for unplanned readmission within 30 days of discharge in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis (TB). METHODOLOGY: The clinical data of 1,062 patients with confirmed pulmonary TB who were admitted to our hospital from October 2018 to October 2021 were analysed retrospectively. The subjects were divided into a readmission group (354 cases) and a non-readmission group (708 cases) according to whether there was an unplanned admission within 30 days of discharge. We analysed the risk factors for unplanned readmission within 30 days after discharge with pulmonary TB. RESULTS: The incidence of unplanned readmission in patients with pulmonary TB was 5.2%. Being female (OR = 0.63, 95% CI: 0.434-0.942) and living in cities (OR = 0.218, 95% CI: 0.151-0.315) were protective factors for the readmission of patients with TB (p < 0.05). However, being ≥ 65 years old (OR = 2.574, 95% CI: 1.709-3.870), being a smoker (OR = 2.773, 95% CI: 1.751-4.390), having chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) (OR = 3.373, 95% CI: 1.708-6.660), having viral hepatitis (OR= 2.079, 95% CI: 1.067-4.052), receiving non-standard treatment (OR = 15.620, 95% CI: 10.413-23.431), having medical side effects (OR = 6.138, 95% CI: 3.798-9.922) and l unauthorised discharge (OR = 2.570, 95% CI: 1.509-4.376) were risk factors for the readmission to hospital of patients with TB (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Gender, age, place of residence, smoking, COPD, hepatitis, non-standard treatment, adverse drug reactions and unauthorised discharge were risk factors of TB for unplanned readmission.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Behavioral research has shown that children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) have a higher empathizing-systemizing difference (D score) than normal children. However, there is no research about the neuroanatomical mechanisms of the empathizing-systemizing difference in children with ASD. METHODS: Participants comprised 41 children with ASD and 39 typically developing (TD) children aged 6‒12 years. Empathizing-systemizing difference was estimated using the D score from the Chinese version of Children's Empathy Quotient and Systemizing Quotient. We quantified brain morphometry, including global and regional brain volumes and surface-based cortical measures (cortical thickness, surface area, and gyrification) via structural magnetic resonance imaging. RESULTS: We found that the D score was significantly negatively associated with amygdala gray matter volume [ß = -0.16; 95% confidence interval (CI): -0.30, -0.02; P value = 0.030] in children with ASD. There was a significantly negative association between D score and gyrification in the left lateral occipital cortex (LOC) in children with ASD (B = -0.10; SE = 0.03; cluster-wise P value = 0.006) and a significantly positive association between D score and gyrification in the right fusiform in TD children (B = 0.10; SE = 0.03; cluster-wise P value = 0.022). Moderation analyses demonstrated significant interactions between D score and diagnosed group in amygdala gray matter volume (ß = 0.19; 95% CI 0.04, 0.35; P value = 0.013) and left LOC gyrification (ß = 0.11; 95% CI 0.05, 0.17; P value = 0.001) but not in right fusiform gyrification (ß = 0.08; 95% CI -0.02, 0.17; P value = 0.105). CONCLUSIONS: Neuroanatomical variation in amygdala volume and gyrification of LOC could be potential biomarkers for the empathizing-systemizing difference in children with ASD but not in TD children. Large-scale neuroimaging studies are necessary to test the replicability of our findings.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: The sheer volume of data generated by population imaging studies is unparalleled by current capabilities to extract objective and quantitative cardiac phenotypes; subjective and time-consuming manual image analysis remains the gold standard. Automated image analytics to compute quantitative imaging biomarkers of cardiac function are desperately needed. Data volumes and their variability pose a challenge to most state-of-the-art methods for endo- and epicardial contours, which lack robustness when applied to very large datasets. Our aim is to develop an analysis pipeline for the automatic quantification of cardiac function from cine magnetic resonance imaging data. METHOD: This work adopt 4,638 cardiac MRI cases coming from UK Biobank with ground truth available for left and RV contours. A hybrid and robust algorithm is proposed to improve the accuracy of automatic left and right ventricle segmentation by harnessing the localization accuracy of deep learning and the morphological accuracy of 3D-ASM (three-dimensional active shape models). The contributions of this paper are three-fold. First, a fully automatic method is proposed for left and right ventricle initialization and cardiac MRI segmentation by taking full advantage of spatiotemporal constraint. Second, a deeply supervised network is introduced to train and segment the heart. Third, the 3D-ASM image search procedure is improved by combining image intensity models with convolutional neural network (CNN) derived distance maps improving endo- and epicardial edge localization. RESULTS: The proposed architecture outperformed the state of the art for cardiac MRI segmentation from UK Biobank. The statistics of RV landmarks detection errors for Triscuspid valve and RV apex are 4.17 mm and 5.58 mm separately. The overlap metric, mean contour distance, Hausdorff distance and cardiac functional parameters are calculated for the LV (Left Ventricle) and RV (Right Ventricle) contour segmentation. Bland-Altman analysis for clinical parameters shows that the results from our automated image analysis pipelines are in good agreement with results from expert manual analysis. CONCLUSIONS: Our hybrid scheme combines deep learning and statistical shape modeling for automatic segmentation of the LV/RV from cardiac MRI datasets is effective and robust and can compute cardiac functional indexes from population imaging.

RESUMO

We propose a compact form of the triple-channel panoramic annular lens (PAL) with a stereo field and no central blind area based on polarization technology, which solves the problem that the traditional stereo panoramic system always has a large and complex mirror in front to reflect light. Based on the traditional dual-channel structure, we apply polarization technology to the first reflective surface to create a third channel for the stereovision. The field of view (FoV) of the front channel is 360° × (0° - 40°), the FoV of the side channel is 360° × (40° - 105°) and the stereo FoV is 360° × (20° - 50°). The Airy radii of the front channel, the side channel, and the stereo channel are 3.374 µm, 3.372 µm, and 3.360 µm, respectively. The modulation transfer function at 147 lp/mm is greater than 0.13 in the front and stereo channels and greater than 0.42 in the side channel. The F - θ distortion of all FoVs is less than 10%. This system shows a promising way to achieve stereovision without adding complex structures on the original basis.

RESUMO

Background: The American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) report 293 is more accurate than report 220 in evaluating the absorbed radiation dose during head computed tomography (CT) examination. We aimed to investigate the associations between age, head circumference (HC), the conversion factor (f293), and specific-size dose estimation (SSDE293) during these procedures. The rapid radiation dose was also estimated based on the AAPM report 293. Methods: In this retrospective, cross-sectional study, unenhanced CT images of the head were retrospectively collected from 1,222 participants from Union Hospital and Hubei Cancer Hospital between December 2018 and September 2019. Scan parameters, including age, HC, water-equivalent diameter (DW), and volumetric computed tomography dose index (CTDIvol), were generated automatically using indigenously-developed image processing software. The corresponding f293 and SSDE293 were calculated according to the AAPM report 293. The analyses were performed using linear regression. Results: In the younger group, age and HC were significantly negatively correlated with SSDE293 (r=-0.33 and -0.44, respectively; both P values ≤0.001). No significant correlation was reported between age, HC, and SSDE293 in the older group. Moreover, age was significantly negatively associated with f293 in the younger and older groups (r=-0.80 and -0.13, respectively; both P values ≤0.001). A significantly negative association was seen between f293 and increased HC in both age groups (r=-0.92 and -0.82, respectively; both P values ≤0.001). Conclusions: The HC of patients was associated with head conversion. HC is a feasible indicator for rapidly estimating the radiation dose in head CT examinations based on the AAPM report 293.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Cryptococcal meningitis (CM) threatens people's health and is the main cause of opportunistic fungus-related death in acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) patients. Herein, we investigate the clinical characteristics and prognostic factors of AIDS patients with Cryptococcus neoformans in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, China. METHODS: Our study enrolled AIDS patients diagnosed with Cryptococcus neoformans infection who were hospitalised in our hospital. They were divided into Group A (32 patients with CM) and Group B (28 patients without CM) according to their diagnosis. The differences between the two groups of patients' clinical symptoms, imaging examinations and laboratory examinations were observed. Statistical methods were used to analyse the difference in prognosis between the two groups. RESULTS: Headache and fever were the most common clinical characteristics for patients with CM, while respiratory symptoms and fever were the most common clinical characteristics for patients without CM. The positive rate of cryptococcal capsular antigen, India ink staining and culture in the cerebrospinal fluid examination was higher in the CM patients than in the non-CM patients. The overall morbidity and mortality rate after systemic antifungal therapy was higher in the CM patients than in the non-CM patients. A higher incidence of headache, impaired consciousness, nuchal rigidity, first intracranial pressure > 200 mmH2O and mortality was observed in the CM patients than in the non-CM patients. Multifactorial logistic regression analysis showed that headache risk factors affecting the patient's prognosis at 12 weeks. CONCLUSION: Patients with AIDS diagnosed with Cryptococcus neoformans infection have insidious clinical symptoms in the early stage, and their manifestation is often non-specific, resulting in poor prognosis and high mortality among CM patients compared to patients without CM. Therefore, early identification and timely antifungal therapy before the disease progresses to meningitis are of great value in improving the survival rate of patients.

RESUMO

Background: Growing evidence suggests an association between thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) and severity of acute ischemic stroke (AIS). However, few studies have ruled out the potential influences of abnormal thyroid hormones when assessing this association. This study aimed to investigate the association between TSH levels and the severity of AIS patients with euthyroidism, and to explore the potential mechanism of TSH on this disease by analyzing the correlation of TSH with lipid profiles. Methods: This retrospective study consisted of 345 patients with normal T3 and T4 levels admitted for first-ever cerebral ischemic stroke. Baseline data of participant were collecte. Laboratory data, including serum levels of TSH and lipid profiles were measured in our hospital's clinical laboratory on admission. Stroke severity was recorded using the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS). Associations between TSH levels and disease severity were analyzed with logistic regression analysis. Correlations between TSH and lipid profiles were analyzed with Spearman's rank correlation analysis. Results: Among the 345 patients with AIS, the median age was 63 years (63±12 years), 106 patients (30.7%) were female, 237 (68.7%) patients were mild-severity and 108 (31.3%) patients were severity. Data analysis showed that higher serum TSH levels were associated with the mild severity of patients with AIS (P=0.042 in Kruskal-Wallis test, P=0.025 in logistic regression analysis, and P=0.044 in multiple logistic regression), but not in AIS patients with euthyroidism (P=0.078, P=0.337, respectively). Furthermore, TSH levels were correlated with triglycerides (TG) levels not only in total patients (r=0.135, P=0.012) but also in the patients with euthyroidism (r=0.133, P=0.018). Conclusions: TSH levels are associated with the severity of AIS patients, but not in patients with euthyroidism, predicting that stratified management of TSH may be beneficial in patients with AIS. Moreover, TSH levels are correlated with TG levels in patients with AIS.

RESUMO

Although the United States (US) have been monitoring the autism spectrum disorder (ASD) prevalence, whether the prevalence has continued to increase, decrease, fluctuate or reached a stable level remained unclear during the COVID-19 pandemic. We have requested the 2016-2021 National Survey of Children's Health (NSCH) data in the United States to estimate weighted ASD prevalence and assess linearity/nonlinearity in the time trend. We did not observe linear or nonlinear trends of the ASD prevalence during the 2016-2021 periods. The current ASD prevalence experienced a 0.3% drop from 2019 to 2020 but a 0.3% uptick in 2021, suggesting a stable trend during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our findings shed lights on the need for the modified strategy of monitor ASD prevalence during the COVID-19 era.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Adopting a healthy lifestyle during childhood could improve physical and mental health outcomes in adulthood and reduce relevant disease burdens. However, the lifestyles of children with mental, behavioral, and developmental disorders (MBDDs) remains under-described within the literature of public health field. This study aimed to examine adherence to 24-hour movement guidelines among children with MBDDs compared to population norms and whether these differences are affected by demographic characteristics. METHODS: Data were from the 2016-2020 National Survey of Children's Health-A national, population-based, cross-sectional study. We used the data of 119,406 children aged 6-17 years, which included 38,571 participants with at least 1 MBDD and 80,835 without. Adherence to the 24-hour movement guidelines was measured using parent-reported physical activity, screen time, and sleep duration. RESULTS: Among children with MBDDs, 20.3%, 37.0%, 60.7%, and 77.3% met the physical activity, screen time, sleep, and at least 1 of the 24-hour movement guidelines. These rates were lower than those in children without MBDDs (22.8%, 46.2%, 66.7%, and 83.4%, respectively; all p < 0.001). Children with MBDDs were less likely to meet these guidelines (odds ratio (OR) = 1.21, 95% confidence interval (95%CI): 1.13-1.30; OR = 1.37, 95%CI: 1.29-1.45; OR = 1.29, 95%CI: 1.21-1.37; OR = 1.45, 95%CI: 1.35-1.56) than children without MBDDs. Children with emotional disorders had the highest odds of not meeting these guidelines (OR = 1.43, 95%CI: 1.29-1.57; OR = 1.48, 95%CI: 1.37-1.60; OR = 1.49, 95%CI: 1.39-1.61; OR = 1.72, 95%CI: 1.57-1.88) in comparison to children with other MBDDs. Among children aged 12-17 years, the difference in proportion of meeting physical activity and screen time guidelines for children with vs. children without MBDD was larger than that among children aged 6-11 years. Furthermore, the above difference of meeting physical activity guidelines in ethnic minority children was smaller than that in white children. CONCLUSION: Children with MBDDs were less likely to meet individual or combined 24-hour movement guidelines than children without MBDDs. In educational and clinical settings, the primary focus should be on increasing physical activity and limiting screen time in children aged 12-17 years who have MBDDs; and specifically for white children who have MBDDs, increasing physical activity may help.

RESUMO

The effects of the long-term bilingual experience on structure and function of the cerebellum remain unclear. To explore whether there are differences in cerebellar gray matter structure between Cantonese-Mandarin bilinguals and Mandarin monolinguals and whether these different cerebellar structures have different resting-state functional connectivity (RSFC) with the cerebrum between the two groups, 30 Cantonese-Mandarin bilingual and 30 Mandarin monolingual college students were scanned by the T1-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and resting-state functional MRI. Voxel-based morphology (VBM) analysis and RSFC analysis were used to analyze the cerebellar gray matter volume (GMV) and cerebellar-cerebro functional connectivity, respectively. Correlation analysis was performed between GMV/RSFC and the rapid automatized naming (RAN) and cognitive control. Compared to Mandarin monolinguals, Cantonese-Mandarin bilinguals showed larger GMV in bilateral cerebellar inferior posterior lobe (including bilateral VIIIa, VIIIb,IX, and right X, Vermis VIIIb, and Vermis IX) and a significant increase in RSFC coupling of the right inferior cerebellar posterior lobe with orbital part of left inferior frontal gyrus (IFG). In addition, there was a positive correlation between average response time (RT) of Mandarin alphanumeric RAN and RSFC between the right inferior posterior lobe of cerebellum and left IFG of all participants. The long-term Cantonese-Mandarin bilingual experience can increase the GMV of the bilateral cerebellar inferior posterior lobe and the RSFC between the right inferior cerebellar posterior lobe with orbital part of left inferior frontal gyrus (IFG).
