RESUMO

The degree and nature of surface air pollution with man-made chemicals were studied in Krivoy Rog in 1996 to 2005. The priorities of pollutants were established in the area with different forms of technogenic emissions and residential areas. Immunological parameters were studied in healthy neonates and 7-10-year-old children. There was a reduction in the major immunological parameters in both healthy neonatal infants and 7-10-year-old children and a rise in pediatric morbidity.

RESUMO

The authors studied the degree of ambient air and soil pollution with technogenically induced chemical substances in Krivoi Rog in 1996-2001. Priority pollutants were identified in the areas with different forms of technogenic discharge and on the development land. The widest range of pollutants and the highest morbidity rates were established at the site near a metallurgic plant and a by-product coke plant. The immunological parameters were studied in infants of the first year of life, who had been born full-term with intrauterine developmental retardation. Decreased basic immunological parameters were found in both this category of infants and healthy infants of the same age.

RESUMO

In order to evaluate the role of heavy metals in the reproductive status, a complex hygienic evaluation of total daily entry of lead, cadmium, zinc, and copper in the organism, biomonitoring of metals in indicator biosubstrates, and epidemiological follow-up of the reproductive function were carried out in 6962 healthy women living in industrial cities of the Dnepropetrovsk region. Total daily entry of lead is 0.27 mg, that of cadmium 0.029 mg, which meets the WHO requirements. However the entry of copper and particularly zinc is 1.5-3 times below the physiological norm. Biomonitoring showed high concentrations of lead and cadmium in the body. Regular entry of abiotic metals even in low concentrations in the presence of deficiency of essential metals is fraught with risk of reproductive diseases, which was proven mathematically for all stages of the reproductive function: gestation, labor, and neonatal period.

RESUMO

The contributors propose a set of newly performed hygienic studies in the widely developed technologies of electrotype, expound a complex of the hazardous occupational factors commonly encountered in modern galvanoplastics, contamination of the equipment, overalls and the skin with the metallic compounds contained in the galvanic electrolytes. Shops with non-isolated electrotype lines were characterized by the most unfavourable labour conditions.

RESUMO

Noise at 40-12,000 hz frequency and 100 dBA with maximums in medium and high frequency ranges, maintained for 3 months and 4 hours per day did not change the number of chromosome aberration cells in the spinal marrow, but decreased by 1,3 the number of the aberrant hepatocytes in male rats. This was apparently caused by the mitotic activity of the liver parenchyma and related elimination of the damaged cells. The noise maintained for 4 months caused an increase by 1,7 in aberrant hepatocytes. This cytogenetic effect is regarded as potentially dangerous.
