[Open rhinoplasty: outcomes of 100 cases]. / Rinoplastia abierta: resultados de 100 casos.

Open rhinoplasty is a technique that allows a sharper evaluation of nasal deformities since a visual diagnosis may be done. We present a review of the cases in which an open rhinoplasty was performed in our department in the last five years. Preoperative and postoperative data are recorded in a standardized form in order to facilitate their analysis. The techniques used for each type of nasal deformity (dorsal and basal) are described and the results discussed.

[Hemangiopericytoma of the soft palate and mediastinum: a case report]. / Hemangiopericitoma de paladar blando y mediastino. A propósito de un caso.

We report a case of hemangiopericytoma with simultaneous affectation of soft palate and mediastinum in a 46-year-old male. We describe the outstanding histologic features of this uncommon tumor, as well as its treatment and evolution. This case had a 5-year survival in spite of pulmonary metastases. We also reviewed the literature and discussed this rare clinical presentation of hemangiopericytoma.

[Hemilaryngectomy of the supracricoid: experience of 58 cases. (Follow-up study for 5 years)]. / Hemilaringectomía supracricoidea: experiencia en 58 casos (seguimiento mayor de cinco años).

In the supracricoid hemilaryngectomy the wing of the thyroid and its internally related structures are resected. This is widely used in T2 glottic tumour. Some writers describe its use in limited ventricularis lesions. We have frequently used this technique in both types of lesions. In this paper 58 cases of patients operated on between 1974 and 1986 are reviewed, giving a follow-up period of more than five years. The results obtained, both oncological and functional, are good enough to make this technique basic in the treatment of laryngeal cancer.

[Partial horizonto-vertical laryngectomy: experience of 44 cases (follow up of more than five years]. / Laringectomía parcial horizontovertical: experiencia en 44 casos (seguimiento mayor de cinco años).

The horizontal-vertical partial laryngectomy combines supraglottic and hemilaryngeal excisions of one side of the larynx and is indicated, as first choice, in the supraglottic tumours with unilateral glotoaryntenoid involvement. We have followed this theory and practice since 1974, and have studied 44 patients operated on using this technique up to 1986, who have now (1992) been followed up for more than five years. Analysis of the results shows the number of patients alive and free of tumour, and the number of decannulations, to be sufficiently high for the recommendation of this technique in the treatment of such tumours.

[Our experience with caustic substance ingestion in children]. / Nuestra experiencia en la ingesta de cáusticos en los niños.

We discuss the protocol followed in our Service for the diagnose, treatment and follow-up of patients younger than seven years old, diagnosed as "caustic substance ingestion". We report on 157 cases seen from 1987 to 1991, from which 14 showed severe oesophageal burnings which required further oesophageal dilatation with general or local anesthesia. The usefulness of pH-metry in this patients is also analyzed. The relatively mild degree of abrasiveness produced by bleach is also described, despite being the most frequent caustic agent in our group of patients. The usefulness of the different techniques applied for the treatment and follow-up of this patients is also discussed.

[Neurofibromatosis with laryngeal involvement]. / Neurofibromatosis con afectación laríngea.

The clinical features of a new case of Von Recklinghausen's neurofibromatosis affecting the larynx, are described. The patient was a three year old boy presenting with hoarseness. The diagnostic and therapeutic features, and the clinical course are described. This is another patient with neurofibromatosis, including laryngeal involvement, to be added to the 26 such cases already described in the world literature. It is the eleventh laryngeal plexiform neurofibroma described. The relevant literature is reviewed.

[Anterior reconstructive glottecomy]. / Glotectomía anterior reconstructiva.

Shallow lesions of the glottis spreading to both sides of the middle line (T1b) have special characteristics under the viewpoint of its resection, because of the neighbourhood of the anterior commissure. Frontal and frontolateral techniques require a reconstructive step in order to avoid synechiae. The AA. report 35 cases with glottis reconstruction following several procedures: skin pedicled flap or epiglottoplasty. As the results almost the totality of the laryngectomees were "cured" after 5 years follow-up, and a high percentage of them free of tracheostomy tube.

[Cancer of the larynx in women. Presentation of 4 cases]. / Cáncer de laringe en la mujer. Presentación de cuatro casos.

Four new cases of laryngeal carcinoma in the women are presented. The two first ones as glottic polyps, the third one as subglottic-tracheal and the fourth one as a submucous lesion of the ventricle with lowly growing. We see the treatment and the evolution.

[Adenoid cystic subglottic carcinoma. A case report]. / Carcinoma adenoide quístico de subglotis. A propósito de un caso.

A case of adenoid cystic carcinoma found in the laryngeal region (suglottically), extending as far as the trachea, four years postoperatively, has not yet shown signs of local recurrence nor of metastasis. The unusual features of this case are its site and favourable progress postoperatively. A study was made of the literature of this type of tumour.
