RESUMO

PURPOSE: To compare the utility of the Chinese diagnostic criteria for Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada (VKH) disease (CDCV), the revised diagnostic criteria (RDC) and the classification criteria by SUN (SUN-C). METHODS: Two groups of patients (VKH group and non-VKH group) were assessed in this retrospective case-control study. Sensitivity, specificity and area under receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) were evaluated among these criteria. RESULTS: 258 patients were included after propensity score matching. The sensitivities were 92.2% in CDCV, 66.7% in RDC, and 54.3% in SUN-C. In different disease stages (early and late), similar sensitivity results were observed. The specificities were 96.1% in CDCV, 97.7% in RDC, and 99.2% in SUN-C. The AUCs were 0.942 in CDCV, 0.822 in RDC and 0.767 in SUN-C. CONCLUSION: A higher sensitivity value and larger AUC in CDCV were found. CDCV are highly useful in the diagnosis and classification of VKH disease in Chinese patients.

RESUMO

The exotic mangrove species Sonneratia apetala has been planted widely in China since 1985. As an exotic mangrove species, it is important to understand the influence of Sonneratia plantations on marine nematode assemblages. We studied the Zhanjiang and Xiatanwei mangrove wetlands on the South China Coast during the four seasons of 2010 and 2019. The results showed that S. apetala plantations increased the number of genera, Shannon-Wiener diversity, richness, evenness, maturity index (MI) and decreased the index of trophic diversity (ITD) values for nematodes compared to those in mudflats, but did not change significantly compared to those of native mangrove forests. In addition, Sonneratia plantations did not significantly change nematode assemblages compared to those of native mangroves, though they did change significantly compared to those in mudflats. Thus, interplanting S. apetala into native mangrove forests may be an effective substitute for using native mangroves in mangrove plantation.

RESUMO

In the present research, copolymers of methyl acrylate (MA) with anionic or cationic monomers were synthesized via emulsion polymerization, and used as sludge dewatering aids in wastewater treatment. The copolymerization of different stoichiometry of two monomers afforded a variety of water soluble copolymers with charge densities ranging from 40% to 80%, which align with the charge density of current flocculant products. These copolymers resemble current commercial products, but provide a greener solution by eliminating acrylamide monomer, which is a suspected carcinogen. High molecular weight copolymers were achieved by applying powder-like synthesis process with intrinsic viscosity of final products as high as 12.98 dl/g for anionic flocculant and 10.74 dl/g for cationic flocculant. The copolymers of methyl acrylate and [2-(Acryloyloxy)ethyl]trimethylammonium chloride (AETAC) with 55% charge density exhibited comparable performance in clay settling test, real water jar test, and sludge dewatering, when compared to AM-based commercial product in the real wastewater treatment application.

RESUMO

A novel strategy for controlling the higher order chirality of aggregates prepared from enantiopure polysilanes is experimentally probed and discussed. Structurally similar poly[n-alkyl(aryl)]silanes were synthesized in which one side chain comprised the chiral (S)-2-methylbutyl group and the other an achiral m- or p-alkyl-substituted phenyl ring. In solution the polymers adopt helical conformations with the same induced preferential screw sense chirality, as evidenced by circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy. Aggregates, however, formed by addition of a nonsolvent to a polymer solution, show oppositely signed CD spectra. Consistent results were obtained for another series of poly[p-n-alkyl(aryl)]silanes where alkyl is butyl, propyl, and ethyl. The sense of the aggregate higher order chirality is dependent on the chemical composition and environment and is coarse-tunable by adjusting the length of the achiral side chain and fine-tunable by adjusting the good/poor solvent ratio. The origin of these effects is discussed with reference to a simple model.
