RESUMO

The complete mitochondrial genome of the Freshwater Whipray Himantura dalyensis is presented in this study. It is 17,693 bp in length and contains 37 genes in typical gene order and transcriptional orientation observed in vertebrates. There were a total of 86 bp short intergenic spacers and 22 bp overlaps in the genome. The overall base composition was 31.4% A, 25.5% C, 13.2% G and 29.9% T. Two start codons (GTG and ATG) and two stop codons (TAG and TAA/T) were found in 13 protein-coding genes. The length of 22 tRNA genes ranged from 68 (tRNA-Cys and tRNA-Ser2) to 75 bp (tRNA-Leu1). The origin of L-strand replication (OL) was found between the tRNA-Asn and tRNA-Cys genes. The base composition of the control region (1940 bp) was similar to the whole mitogenome.

RESUMO

The complete mitochondrial genome of Carcharhinus macloti was determined in this study. It is 16,701 bp in length and contains 37 genes with the typical gene order and transcriptional orientation in vertebrates. A total of 29 bp overlaps and 29 bp short intergenic spaces located in 22 gene junctions. The overall base composition is 31.6% A, 26.2% C, 13.0% G and 29.2% T. Two start codons (ATG and GTG) and three stop codons (AGG, TAG and TAA/T) were found in 13 protein-coding genes. The length of 22 tRNA genes ranged from 66 bp (tRNA-Ser2) to 75 bp (tRNA-Leu1). The tRNA-Ser2 (GCU) lacks the dihydrouridine arm by a simple loop and can not be folded into the typical cloverleaf structure. The control region is 1066 bp in length with high A+T content (68.2%).

RESUMO

The complete mitochondrial genome of Mustelus griseus was first determined in this study. It is 16,754 bp in length, consisting of 13 protein-coding genes, 2 rRNA genes, 22 tRNA genes and 1 control region with the typical gene order in vertebrates. Overall nucleotide base composition of the mitogenome is 30.7% A, 24.9% C, 14.0% G and 30.3% T. After aligning, it comes to us that the mitogenomic portions of M. griseus are very similar to those of Mustelus manazo, ranging from 86.92% (control region) to 100% (tRNA-His and tRNA-Leu2). The origin of L-strand replication (OL) is identified between tRNA-Asn and tRNA-Cys genes. The control region is located between the tRNA-Pro and tRNA-Phe genes, containing one termination-associated sequence (TAS) and three short conserved sequences (CSB 1-3).

RESUMO

In this article, we first presented the complete mitogenome of the spot-tail shark Carcharhinus sorrah, which is a medium-sized shark distributed in the tropical Indo-Pacific and is currently listed as "Near Threatened" on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List. The complete mitogenome of C. sorrah is 16,707 bp in length and contains typical 37 genes and one control region. The overall base composition is 31.4% A, 25.8% C, 13.2% G and 29.6% T. The control region is 1066 bp in length with the highest A + T content (66.8%) and lowest G content (13.2%).

RESUMO

The bull shark Carcharhinus leucas is a large elasmobranch species widespread in tropical and warm oceans, rivers and lakes. We first determine the complete mitogenome of C. leucas in this article. It is 16,704 bp in length, consists 37 genes and one control region with the typical gene order in vertebrates. The ND6 gene used the rare AGG as stop codon. The 22 tRNA genes ranged from 67 to 75 bp. The tRNA-Ser2 lacks the dihydrouridine arm and cannot form the typical cloverleaf structure. The control region is 1066 bp in length with high A+T and low G contents.

RESUMO

The complete mitochondrial genome of Epinephelus quoyanus is first presented in this article. It is a circular DNA double strand of 16,797 bp in length, consisting of 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes and a control region. The gene order and transcriptional orientation of E. quoyanus was same with most vertebrates. Several short overlaps and intergenic spacers were found at different gene junctions. Unusually, the CO1 gene started with GTG codon and the ATP6 gene started with CTG codon. The tRNA-Ser2 (GCU) lost the DHU stem. Within the control region, the termination-associated sequence was found near the tRNA-Pro and the conserved sequence blocks (1-3) were identified near the tRNA-Phe.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Epinephelus epistictus was first presented in this study. It was 16,920 bp in length, consisted of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, 2 rRNA genes and 1 putative control region (D-loop). Overall nucleotide base composition was 28.78% A, 28.5% C, 16.12% G and 26.6% T. The COI gene started with GTG codon and the ATP6 gene started with CTG codon. The tRNA-Ser2 lacked the dihydrouridine (DHU) arm and formed one loop. The origin of L-strand replication (OL) was identified between tRNA-Asn and tRNA-Cys genes. The control region was rich in A + T (69.93%) and poor in G (12.80%). Two tandem repeat motifs were found in the control region with one nucleotide different.

In this study, we present the complete mitochondrial DNA sequences of Epinephelus areolatus for the first time, which is 16,893 bp in length and contains 13 protein-coding genes, 2 rRNA genes, 22 tRNA genes, and a putative control region. The overall base composition of the H-strand is 27.0% T, 28.0% C, 28.6% A, and 16.3% G. The CO1 gene is initiated by GTG codon and ATP6 gene is initiated by TTG codon. The tRNA-Ser2 cannot be folded into the typical cloverleaf secondary structure because its dihydrouridine arm is replaced by a simple loop. A long-tandem repeat motif (76 bp), repeated six times, is found in the control region.

The complete mitochondrial genome of the striped grouper Epinephelus latifasciatus is first presented in this study. The total length of E. latifasciatus is 16,389 bp, consisting of 13 protein-coding genes, 2 rRNA genes, 22 tRNA genes, and an A+T-rich control region. The gene order and transcriptional orientation are identical to those of most vertebrates. The total base composition is 28.6% A, 29.1% C, 26.4% T, and 16.0% G, with a slight A+T bias of 55.0%. The dihydrouridine arm of tRNA-Ser2 is replaced with one loop, because of which it cannot be folded into typical cloverleaf secondary structure. The termination-associated sequences and conserved sequence blocks (CSB1-3) are found in the control region.
