RESUMO
The range of concentration of the Sda blood group antigen has been determined in the human adult kidney and colon. No Sda antigen was found in 2% of kidneys. Immunofluorescent studies of the kidney showed that Sda is present in the distal convoluted tubules and collecting ducts and occurs in the same location as Tamm-Horsfall protein. No Sda antigen was detected in about 2% of colons. In an additional 6%, no antigen was detected in saline extracts but was present in an insoluble form. In the colon, Sda is sited on the brush borders of the epithelial cells and in the goblet cells. No Tamm-Horsfall protein was identified in the colon.

The red cell Bg antigens of patients with haematological diseases have been found to be more reactive than those of normal donors. Others HLA-related antigens that are of low incidence in normal donors are found in much higher incidence in these patients. A series of 40 CLL patients has been tested for both known and additional HLA-related antigens by hemagglutination and adsorption and the relationship between the antigens of the red cells and lymphocytes evaluated.

In 5 patients of phenotype ccDEe or ccDEE, the transfusion of 2--14 U of C-positive blood was folloued 5--9 days later by haemoglobinuria lasting 2--4 days. Anti-C was the only antibody present in all 5 cases but was always of low titre; with CC cells the maximum titre recorded with the indirect antiglobulin test was 8 and with the agglutination of enzyme-treated cells, 128. The discordance between the weakness of the antibody in vivo and the amount of haemoglobin released intravascularly is surprising but may be related to the type of IgG molecule of which anti-C is composed.

Following an attack of infectious mononucleosis, the red cells of HLA B7 patients may show a greatly increased reactivity with anti-Bga antibodies. This occurs from about the 3rd week of the disease, the reactivity then slowly decreasing over a period of months or years. Both specific and nonspecific reactions to other HLA antisera may also occur. Five patients were followed in detail and the reason for the increase in antigen strength was investigated without a conclusive result.
