BACKGROUND: Micropigmentation is a well-recognised option for nipple-areola complex reconstruction, as part of the breast reconstruction pathway for patients following mastectomy. As a part of delayed breast reconstruction, this treatment was put on hold during the COVID-19 pandemic. AIMS: To assess the views of patients regarding micropigmentation in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and whether their attitudes to seeking out this part of the reconstructive journey had been altered. METHODS: A questionnaire undertaken with 53 patients between August & September 2020 attending the Micropigmentation clinic. FINDINGS: 81.1% of patients reported COVID-19 had not impacted their decision, with a similar proportion happy to proceed with the treatment at the time of questioning. CONCLUSIONS: The results highlight the importance of nipple-areola complex to our patients' reconstructive journey.

This paper describes the use of a non-contact structured light scanning technique, computer aided design (CAD) and additive manufacturing (AM) to produce a burns pressure therapy splint, also known as mask or conformer. Masks such as this are used in the treatment of hypertrophic scars resulting from burns injuries. The case study described here is of a nine year old girl with significant hypertrophic scars to her face, especially her nasal bridge. Non-contact structured light scanning was used to capture accurate data of the patients face. This data was then post processed and used to produce a model of the patients face using the three dimensional printing processes from Z Corporation. The plaster model formed was then used to generate a former on which a polyethylene tetrephthalate glycol (PETG) mask was vacuum formed. The results illustrate the benefits and effectiveness in terms of accuracy of adopting an integrated surface scanning, CAD and AM approach for easier intervention and treatment.

After amputation digital prostheses are infrequently used. With modern methods of fabrication both cosmetic and functional use are now possible. We have assessed the use of single digit prostheses in a district general hospital setting.

We describe a 7-year-old child who developed right knee arthritis unresponsive to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug therapy. Additional rheumatologic disorders including pleuropericardial effusion with tamponade supervened before the recognition of Crohn's disease involving the colon. Suppression of all sites of inflammation resulted from corticosteroid therapy. Aspects of diagnosis and treatment of these extraintestinal components of inflammatory bowel disease are discussed.
