BACKGROUND: Social media addiction (SMA) is an increasing problem, especially among young adults. Little is known about university students' SMA and family functioning. This study aimed to explore the mediating effect of depressive symptoms and the moderating effect of peer support in the relationship between family functioning and SMA among young adults. METHODS: A sample of 1862 Chinese university students completed an online survey including the Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale (BSMAS), Family APGAR, the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), peer support, and demographic characteristics. Hierarchical regression and moderated mediation analysis were used to test the effects and pathways among them. RESULTS: Of the 1840 participants, 30.11% experienced SMA, 38.80% had family dysfunction and 15.98% had depressive symptoms. Hierarchical multiple regression showed better family functioning significantly predicted less SMA (ß = -0.26, p < 0.001) and lower depressive symptoms (ß = -0.58, p < 0.001), after adjusting for covariates. Mediation analysis verified that depressive symptoms mediated the effect of family functioning on SMA (indirect effect = -0.22, 95%CI[-0.28, -0.17]). Furthermore, the interaction of family functioning and peer support was negatively related to depressive symptoms (ß= -0.03, 95% CI[-0.05, -0.01]) and the interaction of depressive symptoms and peer support was positively related to SMA (ß = 0.01, 95%CI[0.004, 0.02]). Additional analysis further confirmed that peer support decreased depressive symptoms among young adults from dysfunctional families, and increased SMA behaviors in individuals with depressive symptoms. CONCLUSION: Better family functioning and lower depressive symptoms may contribute to less social media addiction among Chinese university students. Peer support could moderate the mediating role of depressive symptoms on social media addiction in individuals with family dysfunction.

Isocyanate esters are widely recognized for their superior curing capabilities. Leveraging this attribute, the current research formulated a modified cold-mixed asphalt blend using 4,4'-methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI). Tests and analyses of the MDI-modified asphalt with varying inclusion percentages of MDI revealed that a mixture containing 15% rock asphalt and 15% MDI-modified asphalt exhibited a more balanced, comprehensive performance. We also conducted an examination of the role and properties of MDI in asphalt modification using molecular dynamics simulations. The cold-curing properties of MDI-modified asphalt as compared to petroleum asphalt were evaluated based on its density, free volume analysis, cohesive energy density, and glass transition temperature. Implementing the LB-13 gradation-a cold-mixed asphalt gradation with a nominal particle size of 13.2 mm recommended by Chinese specifications-we prepared MDI-modified cold-mixed asphalt and carried out analyses of its mechanical characteristics, high-temperature performance, and water damage resistance. The results demonstrated that MDI-modified asphalt showcases excellent ductility, flexibility, and aging resistance, surpassing the performance of petroleum asphalt. The stability, high-temperature rutting, and water damage resistance of the MDI-modified cold-mixed asphalt exceeded the requirements for hot-mixed asphalt. This research provides theoretical and experimental support for isocyanate ester applications in asphalt engineering, presenting significant value for practical engineering applications.

The human genome encodes more than 350 kinds of Krüppel-associated box (KRAB) domain-containing zinc-finger proteins (KZFPs), KRAB-type ZNF transcription factor family (KZNF) plays a vital role in gene regulatory networks. The KZNF family members include a large number of highly homologous genes, gene subtypes and pseudogenes, and their expression has a high degree of tissue specificity and precision. Due to the high complexity of its regulatory network, the KZNF gene family has not been researched in sufficient, and the role of its members in the occurrence of cancer is mostly unexplored. In this study, ZNF880 was significantly associated with overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) in colorectal carcinoma (CRC) patients. Low ZNF880 expression resulted in shorter OS and DFS. Combined with Colon adenocarcinoma (COAD) and Rectum adenocarcinoma (READ) data collection in the TCGA database, we found that ZNF880 was significantly down-regulated in CRC. Further analysis of the sequence variation of ZNF880 in CRC showed that ZNF880 accumulated a large number of SNV in the C2H2 domain and KRAB domain, while promoter region of ZNF880 also showed high methylation in COAD and READ. Combined with the Cbioportal and TIMER databases, the expression of mutant ZNF880 was significantly lower in COAD compared to the wild type. Simultaneously, the lncRNA-miRNA-ZNF880 ceRNA regulatory network was constructed through co-expression and miRNAs target gene prediction, demonstrating the precision of the ZNF880 regulatory network. In addition, the decreased expression of ZNF880 caused the significant immune infiltration decreases of CD8 + cells in COAD. In contrast, the immune infiltration of CD4 + cells and macrophages in COAD is positively correlated with ZNF880. Finally, through protein-protein interaction (PPI) network analysis and transcription factor target gene prediction, we screened out the genes most likely to be related to the function of ZNF880. CENPK, IFNGR2, REC8 and ZBTB17 were identified as the most closely functioning genes with ZNF880, which may indicate that ZNF880 has important links with the formation of cell centromere, tumor immunity, cell cycle and other pathways closely related to the occurrence of CRC. These studies show that the down-regulation of ZNF880 gene is closely related to CRC, and the targeted change of the expression of its regulatory molecules (miRNA and lncRNA) may be a new perspective for CRC treatment.

Electrochemical nitrogen reduction reaction (ENRR) offers a sustainable alternative to the environmentally hazardous Haber-Bosch process for producing ammonia. However, it suffers from an unsatisfactory performance due to its limited active sites and competitive hydrogen evolution reaction. Herein, we design a hydrophobic oleylamine-modified zeolitic imidazolate framework-coated nanoporous silver composite structure (NPS@O-ZIF). The composite achieves a high ammonia yield of (41.3 ± 0.9) µg·h-1·cm-2 and great Faradaic efficiency of (31.7 ± 1.2)%, overcoming the performances of NPS@ZIF and traditional silver nanoparticles@O-ZIF. Our strategy affords more active sites and accessible channels for reactant species due to the porous structure of NPS cores and restrains the evolution of hydrogen by introducing the hydrophobic molecule coated on the ZIF surfaces. Hence, the design of the hydrophobic core-shell composite catalyst provides a valuably practical strategy for ENRR as well as other water-sensitive reactions.

As physical exercise benefits both physical and psychological health of college students, it is important to promote the habit of physical exercise among them. This study adopted the Health Action Process Approach (HAPA) model to understand the exercise intention-action link and determine the moderating role of self-efficacy. We recruited 242 students from a university in China and asked them to complete a six-wave survey. The survey results indicated that exercise intention was positively related to both coping planning and action planning, which pave the way to performing the action of exercise. However, such mediation effects varied under conditions of self-efficacy. Participants with high self-efficacy exhibited stronger relationships between intention and planning, and between planning and action. The study results suggest that planning has a time-lagged mediation effect in the relationship between intention and action. Additionally, the findings shed light on the moderating role of self-efficacy, which can be useful in developing health-promotion strategies for college students.

Chemokines constitute a superfamily of small chemotactic cytokines with functions that are based on interactions with their corresponding receptors. It has been found that, among other functions, chemokines regulate the migratory and invasive abilities of cancer cells. Multiple studies have confirmed that chemokine receptor 9 (CCR9) and its exclusive ligand, chemokine 25 (CCL25), are overexpressed in a variety of malignant tumors and are closely associated with tumor proliferation, apoptosis, invasion, migration and drug resistance. This review evaluates recent advances in understanding the role of CCR9/CCL25 in cancer development. First, we outline the general background of chemokines in cancer and the structure and function of CCR9 and CCL25. Next, we describe the basic function of CCR9/CCL25 in the cancer process. Then, we introduce the role of CCR9/CCL25 and related signaling pathways in various cancers. Finally, future research directions are proposed. In general, this paper is intended to serve as a comprehensive repository of information on this topic and is expected to contribute to the design of other research projects and future efforts to develop treatment strategies for ameliorating the effects of CCR9/CCL25 in cancer.

RESUMO

As central components of the Hippo signaling pathway in mammals, the mammalian sterile 20-like kinase 1 (MST1) and MST2 protein kinases regulate cell proliferation, survival, and death and are involved in the homeostasis of many tissues. Recent studies have elucidated the roles of MST1 and MST2 in the nervous system and immune system, particularly in neurological disorders, which are influenced by aging. In this review, we provide a comprehensive overview of these research areas. First, the activation mechanisms and roles of MST1 and MST2 in neurons, non-neuronal cells, and immune cells are introduced. The roles of MST1 and MST2 in neurological disorders, including brain tumors, cerebrovascular diseases, neurodegenerative disorders, and neuromuscular disorders, are then presented. Finally, the existing obstacles for further research are discussed. Collectively, the information compiled herein provides a common framework for the function of MST1 and MST2 in the nervous system, should contribute to the design of further experiments, and sheds light on potential treatments for aging associated neurological disorders.

Herein, we have used a hollow fiber membrane as a support layer material to encapsulate paraffin in order to prepare a phase change energy storage material. The phase change energy storage materials with three different support layers were successfully prepared and various properties were systematically characterized. There are also few reports on the use of hollow fiber membranes as the support carrier for the preparation of phase change energy storage materials. The significance of this work is in exploring the use of hollow fiber membranes as a support layer to prepare phase change energy storage materials. In addition, the choice of support carriers for phase change energy storage materials was enriched. Both the hollow fiber membrane columnar hollow portion and the pore structure of the membrane wall could be used to encapsulate paraffin, which makes it more advantageous than the other support materials. The SEM characterization confirmed that paraffin was successfully encapsulated on the membrane wall and columnar hollow part of the membranes. The TGA results indicate that the introduction of the membrane as an encapsulation carrier delayed the decomposition of the composite phase change energy storage materials. The activation energy during the decomposition in the three different phase change energy storage materials was calculated by the decomposition kinetics. Among the three fiber membranes explored in this work, the polypropylene (PP) encapsulation membrane performed better than the other two encapsulation membranes in terms of encapsulation content of paraffin, porosity, latent heats, thermal stability, and activation energy.
