[Contact eczema caused by pesticides in East Germany]. / Kontaktekzem durch Pestizide in der Deutschen Demokratischen Republik.

19 allergic, occupational contact eczemas and 1 irrative contact dermatitis caused by pesticides from 1985-86 in the GDR are described. The 20 casuistic reports are supplemented with data concerning age, sex, exposure time, patch-test results, occupation site and dermatological details. The following pesticides were determined: maneb, zineb, mancozeb, propineb, thiram, demephion, dimethoate, propachlor, metham-Na, benomyl, chloralhydrate with chloralmethylhalbacetal, carbaryl, dinocap captan, phenyl-Hg-acetate and trichlodinitrobenzene. Each individual case adhered to the recommended test concentration for skin tests. Contact eczemas brought about by the pesticides demephion and trichlordinitrobenzene have not yet to be described. Those working in gardening seem to be particularly prone.

[CSF diagnosis in syphilis]. / Liquordiagnostik bei Syphilis.

Treponemal antibodies in CSF are often to be found by FTA-ABS and TPHA, also in cases without syphilis cerebrospinalis. The checking of the CSF barrier allows--together with the TPHA-index--the diagnostic of the syphilis cerebrospinalis. Antibodies against treponema pallidum have been proved in 15 patients at different stages of syphilis until 30 years after treatment, but the titres were low. Only in one case we have found an active syphilis cerebrospinalis by the help of the TPHA- and IgG-index.

[Fatal outcome of visceral lupus erythematosus in pregnancy]. / Letaler Ausgang bei Lupus erythematodes visceralis und Gravidität.

After a short presentation of pathogenesis, clinical course of events, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of lupus erythematodes visceralis in pregnancy a case of maternal death is reported. The relative necessity of avoidance of pregnancy in such cases is demonstrated in the discussion. Irreversible contraception is recommendable.

[Effect of a dinitro-o-cresol-containing herbicide (Hedolit) on human reproduction]. / Uber den Einfluss eines Dinitro-o-kresol-haltigen Pflanzenschutzmittels (Hedolit) auf die menschliche Reproduktion.

After epicutaneous application of Hedolit to guinea pigs the above mentioned substance was found less concentrated in the semen and in the testis than in the serum. Hedolit concentrations, as they were found in the serum, lead already to motility limitations of human sperma and cause a small mutageneous effect in drosophila melanogaster. The chosen epicutaneous modus of application did not lead to such traceable concentrations of Hedolit in the semen and in the testis.

[Sperma- and HLA-antibody demonstration in sterility]. / Sperma- und HLA-Antikörpernachweis bei Sterilität.

Sperma antibodies were detected by means of passive haemagglutination, the immobilisation test and immunofluorescence in the serum of 16 females from among 150 infertile married couples. These serums (experimental group) and 16 serum samples containing no sperma antibodies (control group) were investigated for the presence of cytotoxic HLA-antibodies against lymphocytes from their married partners and from 20 selected donors by means of the micro-lymphocyte toxicity test. HLA-antibodies against the lymphocytes of the husbands involved were found in four women from the experimental group. Two of these four serums also reacted with 20% of the test lymphocytes. In the control group, lymphocyte-toxic antibodies against test subjects were also found in all three serums which cross-reacted with the lymphocytes of the husbands. No new diagnostic or therapeutic criteria for the treatment of sterility can be derived from the combined humoral sperma and cytotoxic HLA-antibodies in the serum.

[Catamnestic study about the fertility of the man (author's transl)]. / Katamnestische Studie zur Fertilität des Mannes.

Collective investigations of fertility in childless married couples were carried out in 9 andrological health centres of the GDR. Analysis of 1937 spermatograms in comparison to fertility after 1 to 2 years shows: (1) Fertility decreases significantly at sperm density nearly 10 million per ml. (2) Motility below 60 per cent caused reduced fertility. Normal motility is more important than normal density of spermatozoa. (3) Fructose level doesn't correlate to motility or fertility of man.

[Cold preservation of human sperm]. / Zur Kältekonservierung menschlichen spermas. Ein technisch neues Verfahren

The authors report the development and investigation of a new technique for freezing and storage of human spermatozoa. Utilizing isolated container of different kind the average rate of freezing was between 1,3 grd/min and 14 grd/min in the sphere from 5 degrees C to--10 degrees C and between 2,9 grd/min to 55 grd/min in the sphere from--10 degrees C to--60 degrees C. The technical expense was low. Semen specime were provided by 33 andrological patients. A total of 53 samples of human semen were frozen and stored for periods of time up to 25 days. The authors used the cryoprotective medium from Behrman and Sawada. The best results were obtained in the mode of freezing at 2,8 grd/min respectively 12 grd/min in ejaculates of original motility about 80%. The recovery of motility and fertilizability of spermatozoa was 50% of original motility, in cases of oligospermia only 34%. The results of this new technique of freezing and storage of human spermatozoa are similar to other new reports in literature.
