RESUMO

The perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have achieved great success in power conversion efficiency due to their excellent optoelectrical properties of perovskite. However, the instability of PSCs severely impedes their commercialization. Recently, in situ cross-linking strategy has been proposed to mitigate stability issues of PSCs, enabling highly efficient and stable PSCs. Here, the critical factors that lead to the degradation of PSCs are first outlined. Then, a comprehensive review of in situ cross-linking strategy in perovskite to enhance the moisture, thermal, illumination, and bending stress resistance properties of PSCs is presented. Furthermore, the detailed mechanism underlying these advantageous effects is discussed pertaining to crystallization regulation, immobilization of ions, water resistance, and release of unfavorable stress. Finally, the current challenges and further development trends of in situ cross-linking strategy in PSCs and extension to other optoelectronic devices are prospected.

RESUMO

Realization of remote wearable health monitoring (RWHM) technology for the flexible photodiodes is highly desirable in remote-sensing healthcare systems used in space stations, oceans, and forecasting warning, which demands high external quantum efficiency (EQE) and detectivity in NIR region. Traditional inorganic photodetectors (PDs) are mechanically rigid and expensive while the widely reported solution-processed mixed tin-lead (MSP) perovskite photodetectors (PPDs) exhibit a trade-off between EQE and detectivity in the NIR region. Herein, a novel functional passivating antioxidant (FPA) strategy has been introduced for the first time to simultaneously improve crystallization, restrain Sn2+ oxidization, and reduce defects in MSP perovskite films by multiple interactions between thiophene-2-carbohydrazide (TAH) molecules and cations/anions in MSP perovskite. The resultant solution-processed rigid mixed Sn-Pb PPD simultaneously achieves high EQE (75.4% at 840 nm), detectivity (1.8 × 1012 Jones at 840 nm), ultrafast response time (trise /tfall = 94 ns/97 ns), and improved stability. This work also highlights the demonstration of the first flexible photodiode using MSP perovskite and FPA strategy with remarkably high EQE (75% at 840 nm), and operational stability. Most importantly, the RWHM is implemented for the first time in the PIN MSP perovskite photodiodes to remotely monitor the heart rate of humans at rest and after-run conditions.

RESUMO

Block copolymers (BCPs) have been widely used as templates to prepare nanostructures over the past few decades. Ordered nanostructures can be formed after microphase segregation of BCPs. In this context, the newly emerging BCP-templated perovskites, in which the perovskite crystal growth has been confined within a self-assembled BCP nanostructure due to the interaction between the polymer block and the cation of the perovskite, have shown profound optical performance and environmental stability. Considering the promising performance of BCP-templated perovskites, this Perspective comprehensively reviews recent works in which BCPs are used as templates with three-dimensional perovskites and perovskite quantum dots, and their performance and stability are thoroughly discussed. Lastly, their potential applications in optoelectronics and biology are discussed.

RESUMO

It is essential to release annealing induced strain during the crystallization process to realize efficient and stable perovskite solar cells (PSCs), which does not seem achievable using the conventional annealing process. Here we report a novel and facile thermal gradient assisted crystallization strategy by simply introducing a slant angle between the preheated hot plate and the substrate. A distinct crystallization sequence resulted along the in-plane direction pointing from the hot side to the cool side, which effectively reduced the crystallization rate, controlled the perovskite grain growth, and released the in-plane tensile strain. Moreover, this strategy enabled uniform strain distribution in the vertical direction and assisted in reducing the defects and aligning the energy bands. The corresponding device demonstrated champion power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of 23.70% and 21.04% on the rigid and flexible substrates, respectively. These highly stable rigid devices retained 97% of the initial PCE after 1097 h of storage and more than 80% of the initial PCE after 1000 h of continuous operation at the maximum power point. This novel strategy opens a simple and effective avenue to improve the quality of perovskite films and photovoltaic devices via strain modulation and defect passivation.

RESUMO

Organic-inorganic hybrid semiconducting (OIHS) materials, which can detect broader spectral regions, are highly desired in several applications including biomedical imaging, night vision, and optical communications. Although lead (Pb)-halide perovskites have reached a mature research stage, high toxicity of Pb hinders their large-scale viability. Tin (Sn)-based perovskites are the most common OIHS broadband light absorbers that replace toxic Pb; however, they are extremely unstable due to the notorious Sn2+ oxidation. Herein, a novel, non-toxic, and solution-processed millimeter-sized OIHS single crystal [Ga(C3H7NO)6](I3)3 has been grown at room temperature. Both the absorption measurement and density functional theory calculations have confirmed a narrow indirect band gap of 1.32 eV. The corresponding photodetector based on this single crystal demonstrated excellent performance including an ultraviolet-visible-near infrared (UV-vis-NIR) response between 325 and 1064 nm, fast response time (trise/tdecay = 3.8 ms/5.4 ms), and profound air storage stability (41 h), thus outperforming most common photodetectors based on Sn-based perovskites. This work not only provides a profound understanding of this novel organic-inorganic single-crystal material but also demonstrates its great potential to realize the high-performance UV-vis-NIR broadband photodetectors.

RESUMO

In this proposed study, erbium (Er3+)-doped ZnO nanocomposites were prepared through the effective, basic, and green combustion method. The significant effects of Er dopants on the structural, morphological features, dielectric, and optical behaviors of the pure ZnO matrix as well as Er2O3-ZnO nanostructured materials were investigated applying X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transformation infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, and UV-Vis spectrophotometer techniques. These results showed that the synthesized Er2O3-ZnO nanocomposites are well polycrystalline. The Er2O3-ZnO nanocomposites are almost uniformly distributed on the surface morphologies. Furthermore, UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, AC electrical conductivity, and dielectric properties' current-voltage characteristics were utilized to examine the influence of erbium doping on the optical properties, energy bandgaps of the proposed Er2O3-ZnO nanostructured powder. The tested nano-samples were applied for the visible light photodegradation of p-chlorophenol(4-CP) and p-nitrophenol (4-NP). The Er-doped ZnO ratio affects the photocatalytic activity of the ZnO matrix. This current research substantiated that more than 99.5% of 4-CP and 4-NP were photodegraded through 30 min of irradiation. Four times, the Er:ZnO nanocatalysts were used and still displayed an efficiency of more than 96.5% for 4-CP and 4-NP degradations in the specified period of 30 min. The as-prepared Er2O3-ZnO nanostructures are considered novel potential candidates in broad nano-applications from visible photocatalytic degradation of waste pollutants to the electronic varistor devices.

RESUMO

As practical interest in the flexible or wearable thermoelectric generators (TEGs) has increased, the demand for the high-performance TEGs based on ecofriendly, mechanically resilient, and economically viable TEGs as alternatives to the brittle inorganic materials is growing. Organic or hybrid thermoelectric (TE) materials have been employed in flexible TEGs; however, their fabrication is normally carried out using wet processing such as spin-coating or screen printing. These techniques require materials dissolved or dispersed in solvents; thus, they limit the substrate choice. Herein, we have rationally designed solvent-free, all carbon-based TEGs dry-drawn on a regular office paper using few-layered graphene (FLG). This technique showed very good TE parameters, yielding a power factor of 97 µW m-1 K-2 at low temperatures. The p-type only device exhibited an output power of up to ∼19.48 nW. As a proof of concept, all carbon-based p-n TEGs were created on paper with the addition of HB pencil traces. The HB pencil exhibited low Seebeck coefficients (-7 µV K-1), and the traces were highly resistive compared to FLG traces, which resulted in significantly lower output power compared to the p-type only TEG. The demonstration of all carbon-based TEGs drawn on paper highlights the potential for future low-cost, flexible, and almost instantaneously created TEGs for low-power applications.

RESUMO

Heavy metal ions (HMIs) have been mainly originated from natural and anthropogenic agents. It has become one of biggest societal issues due to their recognised accumulative and toxic effects in the environment as well as biological media. Key measures are required to reduce the risks posed by toxic metal pollutants existing in the environment. The increased research activities of HMIs detection, and use of technologies based on electrochemical detection that combine with engineered nanomaterials, is a key promising and innovative strategy that can potentially confine heavy metal poisoning. Deep understanding of the characteristics of the physicochemical properties of nanomaterials is highly required. It is also important to interpret the parameters at the nano-bio interface level that merely affect cross-interactions between nanomaterials and HMIs. Therefore, the authors outlined the state-of-the-art techniques that used engineeringly developed nanomaterials to detect HMIs in the environment. The possible novel applications of extensive and relatively low-cost HMIs monitoring and detection are discussed on the basis of these strengths. Finally, it is concluded by providing gist on acquaintance with facts in the present-day scenario along with highlighting areas to explore the strategies to overcome the current limitations for practical applications is useful in further generations of nano-world.

RESUMO

Graphene exhibits both high electrical conductivity and large elastic modulus, which makes it an ideal material candidate for many electronic devices. At present not much work has been conducted on using graphene to construct thermoelectric devices, particularly due to its high thermal conductivity and lack of bulk fabrication. Films of graphene-based materials, however, and their nanocomposites have been shown to be promising candidates for thermoelectric energy generation. Exploring methods to enhance the thermoelectric performance of graphene and produce bulk samples can significantly widen its application in thermoelectrics. Realization of bulk organic materials in the thermoelectric community is highly desired to develop cheap, Earth-abundant, light, and nontoxic thermoelectric generators. In this context, this work reports a new approach using pressed pellets bars of few-layered graphene (FLG) nanoflakes employed in thermoelectric generators (TEGs). First, FLG nanoflakes were produced by a novel dry physical grinding technique followed by graphene nanoflake liberation using plasma treatment. The resultant material is highly pure with very low defects, possessing 3 to 5-layer stacks as proved by Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction measurement, and scanning electron microscopy. The thermal and electronic properties confirm the anisotropy of the material and hence the varied performance characteristics parallel to and perpendicular to the pressing direction of the pellets. The full thermoelectric properties were characterized both parallel and perpendicular to the pressing direction, and the proof-of-concept thermoelectric generators were fabricated with variable amounts of legs.

RESUMO

A study has been presented on the effects of intrinsic mechanical parameters, such as surface stress, surface elastic modulus, surface porosity, permeability and grain size on the corrosion failure of nanocomposite coatings. A set of mechano-electrochemical equations was developed by combining the popular Butler-Volmer and Duhem expressions to analyze the direct influence of mechanical parameters on the electrochemical reactions in nanocomposite coatings. Nanocomposite coatings of Ni with Al2O3, SiC, ZrO2 and Graphene nanoparticles were studied as examples. The predictions showed that the corrosion rate of the nanocoatings increased with increasing grain size due to increase in surface stress, surface porosity and permeability of nanocoatings. A detailed experimental study was performed in which the nanocomposite coatings were subjected to an accelerated corrosion testing. The experimental results helped to develop and validate the equations by qualitative comparison between the experimental and predicted results showing good agreement between the two.

RESUMO

This work demonstrates the high performance graphene oxide (GO)/PEDOT:PSS doubled decked hole transport layer (HTL) in the PCDTBT:PC71BM based bulk heterojunction organic photovoltaic device. The devices were tested on merits of their power conversion efficiency (PCE), reproducibility, stability and further compared with the devices with individual GO or PEDOT:PSS HTLs. Solar cells employing GO/PEDOT:PSS HTL yielded a PCE of 4.28% as compared to either of individual GO or PEDOT:PSS HTLs where they demonstrated PCEs of 2.77 and 3.57%, respectively. In case of single GO HTL, an inhomogeneous coating of ITO caused the poor performance whereas PEDOT:PSS is known to be hygroscopic and acidic which upon direct contact with ITO reduced the device performance. The improvement in the photovoltaic performance is mainly ascribed to the increased charge carriers mobility, short circuit current, open circuit voltage, fill factor, and decreased series resistance. The well matched work function of GO and PEDOT:PSS is likely to facilitate the charge transportation and an overall reduction in the series resistance. Moreover, GO could effectively block the electrons due to its large band-gap of ~3.6 eV, leading to an increased shunt resistance. In addition, we also observed the improvement in the reproducibility and stability.
