RESUMO

The release kinetics of l-carvone loaded from electrospun poly(ϵ-caprolactone) (PCL) and Wheat cellulose (WC) blend were studied. WC was extracted from wheat straw, a cost effective agricultural waste by the acid hydrolysis method. A homogeneous solution of PCL-WC (13:3wt%) was optimized to produce beadless electrospun PCL-WC blend nanofibers. Further, WC and the prepared electrospun PCL-WC blend fibers were systematically characterized by ATR-FTIR, SEM, XRD, TGA, DTGA, and DSC measurements. The hydrophilic character of the blend fibers was analysed using swelling tests and contact angle measurements. The loading efficiency of l-carvone into the electrospun PCL-WC blend fibers was evaluated to be ∼70%. The in-vitro release of l-carvone from PCL-WC blend fibers followed Korsmeyer-Peppas kinetic model indicating the diffusion mechanism and the maximum release of l-carvone was found to be ∼84% over a period of 30h. These results would offer the prepared PCL-WC blend as an ideal fibrous mesh for fragrant antimicrobial textile applications.

RESUMO

Curcumin loaded poly(2-hydroxy ethyl methacrylate) p(HEMA) nanofiber were produced using electrospinning method and characterized. The nanofibrous scaffold supports good cell growth, attachment and retains its original morphology. Sustained and controlled release pattern of curcumin seen to be efficient against infectious disease caused by multidrug resistant organisms. Antibacterial activity of curcumin against Methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and extended spectrum ß lactamase (ESBL) proved to be a good alternate herbal compound for antibiotics. Hence the results indicate p(HEMA) nanofiber loaded with curcumin have potential to use as patch in wound healing of infectious disease caused by multidrug resistant organisms and excellent drug delivery vessel.

RESUMO

In the present work, films of pHPMA, pHPMAS hybrid, pHPMA-CPT and pHPMAS-CPT hybrid were prepared by solvent casting method and characterized by FT-IR, FT-Raman, XRD and DSC, respectively. The biocompatibility of the prepared pHPMA film and pHPMAS hybrid film were assessed using VERO cell lines and the percentage cell viability was found to be 97.4 and 98.3% for 7.8 µg/ml of the film extracts after 72 h of incubation. The cancer cell viability of the pHPMA-CPT film and pHPMAS-CPT film using MCF7 cell lines at pH 5.5 and 7.4 were found to be 4.9 and 8.6% and 7.7 and 12.3%, respectively. In vitro release of camptothecin from pHPMA-CPT and pHPMAS-CPT films in phosphate-buffered saline solution at pH 5.5 and 7.4 were monitored and analyzed using UV-vis spectrophotometer at λmax of 360 nm.
