RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Bullous Pemphigoid (BP) is the most common autoimmune blistering disease. Most patients are elderly and associate multiple comorbidities. Topical and systemic corticosteroids are considered as the first-line treatment for BP and immunosuppressors are used as steroid-sparing treatments but both have side effects and contraindications which are even more common in this elderly population. New treatments targeting interleukins and receptors related to BP pathogenesis have been proposed to decrease this side effects while achieving equal or better effectiveness response rates.Omalizumab is a monoclonal antibody that targets IgE that has been proposed for the treatment of BP due to the evidence that IgE autoantibodies play an essential role in BP pathogenesis. OBJECTIVES AND METHODOLOGY: To assess the efficacy and security of Omalizumab for the treatment of BP, we carried out a multicenter, retrospective, observational study including patients diagnosed of BP who received omalizumab for at least 3 months from 15 tertiary hospitals in Spain. IgE levels prior to treatment was measured and we evaluate the possible correlation with clinical response. We excluded patients treated with Omalizumab for less than 3 months as we consider this duration is insufficient for a comprehensive assessment of its efficacy. To evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment we used the percentage of BSA improvement. RESULTS: We included 36 patients. The vast majority associate multiple comorbidities and all patients had used other systemic therapies apart from corticoids before Omalizumab.83% experienced some kind of treatment response and 42% of all patient treated achieved complete response. We did not find any correlation between higher levels and a better response (p=0,1791).All patients tolerated Omalizumab without reported side-effects. CONCLUSIONS: Omalizumab is a good therapeutic alternative for BP as it obtained clinical response in most patients and nearly half of the cases achieving complete response. It showed no side effects which is crucial in elderly patients suffering from BP.

RESUMO

This was an observational and retrospective multicentre study conducted on adolescents and adults diagnosed with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis (AD) and treated with upadacitinib. Disease severity was measured by Eczema Area and Severity Index (EASI), validated investigator global assessment for AD and pruritus Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) at baseline and Weeks 4, 16, 24 and 52 (when available). Twenty-one patients were included. All patients had previously received topical and systemic corticosteroids. Rapid response to upadacitinib was observed: Mean (SD) EASI score was 19.8 (6.5) at baseline, and 3.1 (4.2), 0.9 (1.4), 0.6 (0.6) and 0.6 (0.6) at the Weeks 4, 16, 24 and 52, respectively. Itch was controlled at Week 4 in all patients (mean [SD] NRS score 7.6 [1.9] baseline, 1.5 [1.3] W4). Severe infections or major adverse cardiovascular events were not reported. We highlight effectiveness and rapid response of upadacitinib in achieving itch control even in long-standing recalcitrant cases.

RESUMO

Agitation inside agricultural sprayer tanks can be studied while using an international standard procedure, based on obtaining internal samples of liquid. However, in practice, this test is not easy to perform. Herein, we propose the explicit study of the mixing procedure with biphasic computer simulations using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). An experimental test was performed on a 3000 L tank of a commercial air-assisted sprayer, with two different agitation system configurations, in order to compare the results of several theoretical physical models of biphasic flows for CFD, both Eulerian and Lagrangian. From the analysis of these theoretical models, we conclude that the Volume of Fluid model is not viable and the Discrete Phase Model produces erroneous results, while the Eulerian and Mixture models can both be useful. However, the results obtained suggest that complex streams generated by real-world agitation systems produce more errors in calculations. Both models can be conducted in the design phase, prior to the implementation of the machine. In addition, the computer simulations allow for researchers to analyse the mixing process in detail, making it possible to evaluate the efficiency of an agitation system according to the time that is required to reach mixture homogeneity.

RESUMO

An acoustic Doppler velocimeter (ADV) was used to analyse the impact of an agricultural sprayer's agitation system settings on fluid velocities inside the tank. A 3000 L capacity sprayer equipped with a 4-nozzle hydraulic agitation system was used. ADV measurements were carried at 32 points inside the tank under the following settings: circuit pressures of 8, 10, or 12 bar; water level in the tank of 1000, 2000, or 3000 L; 2 or 4 active nozzles. An agitation test with a concentration of 0.4% copper oxychloride was employed to analyse the concentration of active matter as a function of tank fill level and number of active nozzles. All parameters significantly affected the fluid velocity, which increased with increasing pressure, but decreased with increasing water level in the tank and an increased number of active nozzles. Concentration tests showed greater active matter concentrations when higher velocities were recorded by the ADV. The ADV was shown to be a useful tool for the rapid assessment of fluid velocities; in the future, it could be used to validate the design of agitation systems, and to estimate their capacity to ensure an adequate level of active matter concentration in the fluid.

RESUMO

In this work, the fabrication of MoOx-free semitransparent perovskite solar cells (PSC) with Power Conversion Efficiencies (PCE) up to 15.7% is reported. Firstly, opaque PSCs up to 19.7% were fabricated. Then, the rear metal contact was replaced by a highly transparent and conductive indium tin oxide (ITO) film, directly sputtered onto the hole selective layer, without any protective layer between Spiro-OMeTAD and rear ITO. To the best of our knowledge, this corresponds to the most efficient buffer layer-free semitransparent PSC ever reported. Using time-resolved photoluminescence (TRPL) technique on both sides of the semitransparent PSC, Spiro-OMeTAD/perovskite and perovskite/TiO2 interfaces were compared, confirming the great quality of Spiro-OMeTAD/perovskite interface, even after damage-less ITO sputtering, where degradation phenomena result less important than for perovskite/TiO2 one. Finally, a 4-terminal tandem was built combining semitransparent PSC with a commercially-available Aluminium Back Surface Field (Al-BSF) silicon wafer. That silicon wafer presents PCE = 19.52% (18.53% after being reduced to cell size), and 5.75% once filtered, to generate an overall 4 T tandem efficiency of 21.18% in combination with our champion large semitransparent PSC of 15.43%. It means an absolute increase of 1.66% over the original silicon wafer efficiency and a 2.65% over the cut Si cell.

RESUMO

The principle limitation of perovskite solar cells is related to their instability and, hence, their limited lifetime. Herein, we employ an imidazolium iodide dopant, 1-methyl-3-(1H,1H,2H,2H-nonafluorohexyl)-imidazolium iodide, containing a perfluorous appendage, which leads to prolonged (unencapsulated, under Ar atmosphere) device activities exceeding 100 days without compromising the power conversion efficiency and other photovoltaic parameters. The extended lifetime of the device can be attributed, at least in part, to the hydrophobic nature of the imidazolium iodide salt. The functionalization of the perovskite material was found to have negligible influence on the perovskite crystal structure.

RESUMO

The performance of perovskite solar cells is strongly influenced by the composition and microstructure of the perovskite. A recent approach to improve the power conversion efficiencies utilized mixed-halide perovskites, but the halide ions and their roles were not directly studied. Unraveling their precise location in the perovskite layer is of paramount importance. Here, we investigated four different perovskites by using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and found that among the three studied mixed-halide perovskites, CH3 NH3 Pb(I0.74 Br0.26 )3 and CH3 NH3 PbBr3-x Clx show peaks that unambiguously demonstrate the presence of iodide and bromide in the former, and bromide and chloride in the latter. The CH3 NH3 PbI3-x Clx perovskite shows anomalous behavior, the iodide content far outweighs that of the chloride; a small proportion of chloride, in all likelihood, resides deep within the TiO2 /absorber layer. Our study reveals that there are many distinguishable structural differences between these perovskites, and that these directly impact the photovoltaic performances.

RESUMO

An agricultural implement for underground application of rodenticide bait to control the Mediterranean pocket gopher (Microtus Duodecimcostatus) in fruit orchards has been designed and tested. The main objective of this research was to design and test the implement by using the finite element method (FEM) and considering a range of loads generated on most commonly used furrow openers in agricultural implements. As a second step, the prototype was tested in the field by analysing the effects of forward speed and application depth on the mechanical behaviour of the implement structure. The FEM was used in the design phase and a prototype was manufactured. The structural strains on the prototype chassis under working conditions were tested by using strain gauges to validate the design phase. Three forward speeds (4.5, 5.5, and 7.0 km/h), three application depths (0.12, 0.15, and 0.17 m), and two types of soil (clayey-silty-loam and clayey-silty-sandy) were considered. The prototype was validated successfully by analysing the information obtained from the strain gauges. The Von Mises stresses indicated a safety coefficient of 1.9 for the most critical load case. Although both forward speed and application depth had a significant effect on the stresses generated on the chassis, the latter parameter critically affected the structural behaviour of the implement. The effects of the application depth on the strains were linear such that strains increased with depth. In contrast, strains remained roughly constant regardless of variation in the forward speed.

RESUMO

A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model of the air flow generated by an air-assisted sprayer equipped with two axial fans was developed and validated by practical experiments in the laboratory. The CFD model was developed by considering the total air flow supplied by the sprayer fan to be the main parameter, rather than the outlet air velocity. The model was developed for three air flows corresponding to three fan blade settings and assuming that the sprayer is stationary. Actual measurements of the air velocity near the sprayer were taken using 3D sonic anemometers. The workspace sprayer was divided into three sections, and the air velocity was measured in each section on both sides of the machine at a horizontal distance of 1.5, 2.5, and 3.5 m from the machine, and at heights of 1, 2, 3, and 4 m above the ground The coefficient of determination (R2) between the simulated and measured values was 0.859, which demonstrates a good correlation between the simulated and measured data. Considering the overall data, the air velocity values produced by the CFD model were not significantly different from the measured values.

RESUMO

ZnO thin films having a nanocolumnar microstructure are grown by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition at 423 K on pre-treated fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) substrates. The films consist of c-axis-oriented wurtzite ZnO nanocolumns with well-defined microstructure and crystallinity. By sensitizing CH3NH3PbI3 on these photoanodes a power conversion of 4.8% is obtained for solid-state solar cells. Poly(triarylamine) is found to be less effective when used as the hole-transport material, compared to 2,2',7,7'-tetrakis(N,N-di-p-methoxyphenylamine)-9,9'-spirobifluorene (spiro-OMeTAD), while the higher annealing temperature of the perovskite leads to a better infiltration in the nanocolumnar structure and an enhancement of the cell efficiency.

RESUMO

The flow of air generated by a new design of air assisted sprayer equipped with two axial fans of reversed rotation was analyzed. For this goal, a 3D sonic anemometer has been used (accuracy: 1.5%; measurement range: 0 to 45 m/s). The study was divided into a static test and a dynamic test. During the static test, the air velocity in the working vicinity of the sprayer was measured considering the following machine configurations: (1) one activated fan regulated at three air flows (machine working as a traditional sprayer); (2) two activated fans regulated at three air flows for each fan. In the static test 72 measurement points were considered. The location of the measurement points was as follow: left and right sides of the sprayer; three sections of measurement (A, B and C); three measurement distances from the shaft of the machine (1.5 m, 2.5 m and 3.5 m); and four measurement heights (1 m, 2 m, 3 m and 4 m). The static test results have shown significant differences in the module and the vertical angle of the air velocity vector in function of the regulations of the sprayer. In the dynamic test, the air velocity was measured at 2.5 m from the axis of the sprayer considering four measurement heights (1 m, 2 m, 3 m and 4 m). In this test, the sprayer regulations were: one or two activated fans; one air flow for each fan; forward speed of 2.8 km/h. The use of one fan (back) or two fans (back and front) produced significant differences on the duration of the presence of wind in the measurement point and on the direction of the air velocity vector. The module of the air velocity vector was not affected by the number of activated fans.
