RESUMO

Introduction: The present research aimed to fractionate Xanthium strumarium L. (XSL) foliage phenolics into a set of solvents and evaluate their antioxidant potential and in-vivo anti-diabetic activity against Alloxan monohydrate-induced diabetic mice. Methodology: For this purpose, XSL foliage was fractionated into petroleum ether, ethyl acetate, ethanol, and water via orbital type shaking and tested for the presence of phenolics, and their antioxidant and antidiabetic potential. Results and discussion: The results revealed that the ethyl acetate fraction of XSL foliage contained the highest amount of total phenolics 95.25 mg GAE/g of extract, followed by ethanol (65.14 mg GAE/g), petroleum ether (25.12 mg GAE/g), water (12.20 mg GAE/g), and XSL powder (69.13 mg GAE/g). At the end of treatment time (day 18 of oral administration of 400 mg/kg body weight of mice), the ethyl acetate fraction significantly (p ≤ 0.05) lowered blood glucose level (353 ± 10.6 to 220 ± 25.5 mg/dL) which might due to the elevated level of phenolic compounds in this fraction. Conclusion: Overall, it can be speculated that ethyl acetate and ethanol may work efficiently for the enrichment of XSL phenolic without compromising their antidiabetic potential.

RESUMO

The enhanced applications of Schiff bases metal complexes of amino acid derivatives have captured the attention of researchers for the synthesis of leucine derivatives of Schiff bases metal complexes. Amino acids are considered to be essential part of food supplements as well as derivatives of Schiff bases in coordination chemistry due to their donor ability. The leucine derivatives Schiff bases ligand have been synthesized by condensation reaction between amine of leucine with aldehyde or ketone bearing molecules attached with them. These complexes were characterized by different spectroscopic tools in order to confirm their structural geometries. The structural geometries are considered to be very important in order to improve the antimicrobial potential of leucine derivative metal complexes. By taking into account the antimicrobial potential of titled compounds, a comprehensive review of leucine derivatives of Schiff bases metal complexes has been compiled.

RESUMO

Objective: To profile the secondary metabolites and to evaluate the antidiabetic potential of hydroethanolic leaf extracts of Conocarpus lancifolius. Methods: The various hydroethanolic extracts o f Conocarpus lancifolius leaf were prepared by ultrasonication assisted freeze-drying. Total phenolic contents, flavonoid contents, antioxidant activity, α-glucosidase and α-amylase inhibitions of leaf extracts were determined. The metabolite profiling was accomplished by UHPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS analysis. The antidiabetic assessment of the most potent extract was carried out by measuring the hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic effect in the high fat diet-fed diabetic albino mice. The blood glucose level, haemoglobin, total cholesterol, high-density lipoproteins (HDL) and low-density lipoproteins (LDL) were determined. Results: The 60% ethanolic extract exhibited the highest phenolic and flavonoid contents of (349.39 ± 2.13) mg GAE/g dry extract and (116.95 ± 2.34) mg RE/g dry extracts, respectively, and the highest DPPH scavenging activity with an IC50 value of (32.87 ± 1.11) μg/mL. The IC50 values for α-glucosidase and α-amylase inhibitions were (38.64 ± 0.93) μg/mL and (44.80 ± 1.57) μg/mL, respectively. UHPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS analysis confirmed the presence of gallic acid, ellagic acid, corilagin, kaempherol-3-O-rutinoside, caffeic acid derivative, isorhamnetin and galloyl derivatives in the 60% ethanolic extract. Plant extract at a dose of 450 mg/kg body weight reduced blood glucose level, total cholesterol, LDL and HDL, and increased haemoglobin in alloxan-induced diabetic mice, Conclusions: Conocarpus lancifolius leaves are proved as a good source of biologically functional metabolites and possess antidiabetic activity which may be further explored to treat diabetes.

RESUMO

Amino acid derivative Schiff base was synthesized by reaction of leucine with salicyldehyde in basic medium. The Schiff base was used as a ligand which was reacted with Co, Mn, Cu and Cd metals in order to form the stable complexes. The synthesized ligand and metals complexes were characterized by using different spectroscopic tools i.e. FT-IR, Mass spectrometry and NMR. The percentages of different elements present in ligand molecule and complexes was confirmed by Elemental analyzer. All compounds including ligand and complexes were also engaged with different bacterial (Escheria coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subbtilis) and fungal strains (Alternaria alternate, Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus niger) in order to check the inhibitory action of titled compounds. The results showed that the metal complexes have greater antimicrobial activities than ligand.

RESUMO

ABSTRACT: The present study scrutinizes lipases of different origins, immobilization methods, carriers, and reaction solvents to accelerate the octyl octanoate synthesis. The acylation reaction parameters including temperature, moisture level, shaking speed and enzyme dose were subsequently investigated and optimized following fully rotatable central composite design. The initial screening revealed that lipases of Rhizopus arrhizus, when applied as a biocatalyst (lipase bearing dead mycelia) furnished the highest acylation activity (147 µM L-1 min-1). Validation of reaction conditions disclosed that 250 I.U. of lipase based biocatalyst when incubated with 850 mM of acylating agent and 750 mM of the substrate at 35 °C, 3% moisture level and 150 RPM shaking speed produced 70% acylation yield with an acylation activity higher than 147 µM L-1 min-1. The observed results certify that lipase bearing dead mycelia of R. arrhizus might be an intelligent biocatalyst to manipulate the yield of acylation reactions encountered in the food industry.

RESUMO

This paper describes in detail proximate composition, nutritional profile, phytochemical constituents, antioxidant activities, antimicrobial potential, and antihemolytic activity (towards human erythrocytes) of various fractions of wild Ganoderma lucidum. Proximate analysis established that wild G. lucidum comprises about 87.02±5.45% of moisture, and the remaining part is a rich source of proteins (8.59±0.37%), crude fiber (54.21±1.2%), and carbohydrate (35.16%) with smaller fat content (3.33 %). Similarly, phytochemical screening revealed the presence of flavonoids (217.51±0.30 mg/g), ascorbic acid (116±7.32 mg/g), phenolics (360.72±34.07 mg/g), ß-carotenes (0.42±0.04 µg/g), and lycopene (0.05±0.00 µg/g). Extracts of wild G. lucidum in various solvents provided first line protection against Escherichia coli and Pasteurella multocida in the order of ethyl acetate> ethanol> methanol> n-hexane> water. Furthermore, aqueous and methanolic extracts of wild G. lucidum were found to be safe towards human erythrocytes. Overall, wild mushroom (G. lucidum) was found to be a good source of dietary supplements, antimicrobial and antioxidant agents in the pursuance of its commercial utilization in food and pharmaceutical industries.

RESUMO

In the mol-ecule of the zwitterionic title compound, C(10)H(9)NO(3)S, an intra-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen bond results in the formation of an almost planar six-membered ring (r.m.s daviation = 0.0150 Å), which is oriented at a dihedral angle of 1.63 (3)° with respect to the naphthalene ring system. In the crystal structure, inter-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into a two-dimensional network.
