RESUMO

FT-Raman and FT-IR studies of the biomolecule 5-fluoroorotic acid in the solid state were carried out. The unit cell found in the crystal was simulated as a tetramer form by density functional calculations. They were performed to clarify wavenumber assignments of the experimental observed bands in the spectra. Correlations with the molecule of uracil were made, and specific scale equations were employed to scale the wavenumbers of 5-fluoroorotic acid. Good reproduction of the experimental wavenumbers is obtained and the % error is very small in the majority of the bands. This fact confirms our simplified solid state model. The molecular structure was fully optimized using DFT and MP2 methods. The relative stability of both the syn and anti conformations was investigated, and the anti-form was found to be slightly more stable, by 7.49 kJ/mol at the MP2 level. The structures of all possible tautomeric forms were determined. The keto-form appeared as the most stable one. The NBO atomic charges and several thermodynamic parameters were also calculated.

RESUMO

A Raman and IR study of the biomolecule 6-chlorouracil was carried out in the solid state. The unit cell found in the crystal was simulated as a tetramer form by density functional calculations. Specific scale factors and scaling equations deduced from uracil molecule were employed in the predicted wavenumbers of 6-chlorouracil. The scaled wavenumbers were used in the reassignment of the IR and Raman experimental bands. Good reproduction of the experimental wavenumbers is obtained and the % error is very small in the majority of cases. A comparison between the molecular structure and charge distribution of 6-chlorouracil and 5-chlorouracil molecules was presented. The effect of the hydration with the PCM model in the molecular structure and charges was discussed. The optimum tautomers of 6-chlorouracil were optimized and analyzed. Six of them were related to those of uracil molecule. The effect of the halogen substitution in the sixth position of the pyrimidine ring in the stability of the different tautomers was evaluated. HOMO and LUMO orbital energy analysis were carried out.

RESUMO

We report a primary uterine sarcoma with classic histologic, immunohistochemical, and ultrastructural features of a malignant extrarenal rhabdoid tumor (MERT). It arose in a 71-year-old woman who presented with postmenopausal bleeding, ascites, and a right pelvic mass. Malignant cells with rhabdoid morphology were identified by cytologic examination of the peritoneal fluid. Exploratory laparotomy revealed a 10-cm right adnexal mass and disseminated peritoneal tumor. Pathologic study showed diffuse expansion of the endometrial stroma by rhabdoid-like cells with transmural infiltration of the myometrium and extensive involvement of uterine serosa and right ovary by tumor. Neoplastic cells were immunoreactive for vimentin, cytokeratin, and epithelial membrane antigen, and cytoplasmic whorls of intermediate filaments were observed by electron microscopy. Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) studies with chromosome 22-specific probes showed no loss of the INI1 gene, and no coding sequence mutation was identified.

RESUMO

Haloperidol was administered intravenously at the dose rate of 0.87 mg/kg body weight five minutes prior to thiopental anaesthesia in 5 clinically healthy dogs, aged 10-12 months and weighing 11.5 +/- 0.96 kg. Animals required only 4.36 +/- 0.24 ml of the 5% thiopental sodium to achieve surgical anaesthesia which lasted for 37.5 +/- 4.3 minutes. There was adequate muscle relaxation and loss of pedal and palpebral reflexes during thiopental anaesthesia. Five minutes after administration of haloperidol, there was no appreciable change in the various cardiopulmonary dynamics with the exception of a hypocapnoea and a mild hypotension. During thiopentone anaesthesia, a mild hypotension and arterial hypoxemia was evident. This combination of anaesthesia was also employed in 14 clinical cases varying from fractures of long bones (4), mammary tumours (3), ear haematoma (4), venereal granuloma (2) and abdominal hernia (1). The combination proved extremely useful for orthopaedic surgery as the muscle relaxation was adequate and the reduction of the fractured ends was relatively easy.

RESUMO

The surgical treatment of diaphragmatic hernia attempted on 19 lactating buffaloes is described. Thirteen cases recovered uneventfully, 1 recovered after developing brisket oedema and 5 died, 3 during surgery and 2 postoperatively. The desired depth of anaesthesia was achieved by the administration of 6% chloral hydrate followed by 5% thiopentone sodium. A postxiphoid approach and the use of a continuous lock stitch suture were preferred to repair the vent in the diaphragm. Pre- and post-operative use of hydrocortisones and fluids and sufficient tissue oxygenation by controlled positive pressure respiration are believed to be keys to the success of the treatment adopted.
