RESUMO

Primary gastrointestinal infection is an uncommon manifestation of histoplasmosis. It is almost always associated with disseminated disease and/or an immunocompromised host. The ileum and cecum are the most common sites involved. We report two cases of primary gastrointestinal histoplasmosis in HIV-seropositive men who presented with annular constricting right colon lesions.

RESUMO

We have described the clinicopathologic findings in two cases of anorectal melanoma, and extracted the salient features from the medical literature. The disease is rare. Melanoma arises from the anal squamous membrane and very often spreads upward through submucosal planes, producing secondary satelites in the rectum. Trauma from defecation, vast lymphatic and venous systems in the anorectal region, and high invasiveness of the tumor cells eviden;ly account for early distant metastases. Histologically, the neoplastic cells often mimic other cancers. Treatment is surgical, with dismal end results.

RESUMO

A case of xanthogranulomatous ureteritis is described and the numerous similarities with xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis in their clinicopathological presentation are discussed. Of the xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis symptoms our patient manifested a long history of urinary tract infection, weight loss, urinary obstruction, pyuria and gram-negative bacteriuria. The ureteral lesion was a yellowish nodule, granulomatous and was highlighted histologically by foamy histiocytes with periodic acid, Schiff positive cytoplasmic granules. The lesion mimicked an obstructing neoplasm and a specific granuloma.

RESUMO

A case of a malignant mucoepidermoid tumor (poorly differentiated) occurring simultaneously with a homolateral Warthin's tumor is presented. The simultaneous occurrence of two salivary gland tumors of different types is extremely rare. Only five cases have been reported in the literature. The occurrence of a malignant mucoepidermoid tumor and a Warthin's tumor in the same patient has not been previously reported.
