RESUMO

To date, there is little information about the demography of vasectomy reversal (VR) patients or the factors currently influencing VR effectiveness in China, especially after the universal two-child policy was released in 2015. In this research, demographic data and perioperative medical records of VR patients were extracted from seven major hospitals in different provinces or municipalities of China. Meanwhile, a telephone survey of the patients was conducted to collect follow-up information. Eventually, 448 VR cases from the past 13 years were included. The results were analyzed by stratified comparison to investigate factors that can influence postoperative vas deferens patency and pregnancy rate. Appropriately statistical methods were used, and all of the protocols were approved by the Ethics Committees of the institutes in this research. The results showed that the annual operation volume of VR quadrupled after the two-child policy was implemented. Nonmicrosurgery and a long duration of vasectomy were significantly associated with a lower patency rate. A follow-up survey showed that the general postoperative pregnancy rate was 27.2%. For female partners over the age of 35 years, the postoperative pregnancy rate showed a more severe decline, but only 35.5% of them had been given a fertility examination before their husbands' VR surgery. Our work revealed that more patients in China have been demanding VR in recent years. High-quality microsurgery and a short duration of vasectomy are crucial for restoring patency by VR. Clinical andrologists should perform a preoperative fertility evaluation of the patients' female partners.

RESUMO

Through vegetation investigation and soil analysis, this paper studied the evolvement of soil quality during natural vegetation succession and after farmland reclamation in the Yancheng coastal wetland of Jiangsu Province. Along with the process of vegetation succession, the soil physical, chemical, and biological properties in the wetland improved, which was manifested in the improvement of soil physical properties and the increase of soil nutrient contents, microbial biomass, and enzyme activities. Different vegetation type induced the differences in soil properties. Comparing with those in salt marshes, the soil salt content in reclaimed farmlands decreased to 0.01 - 0.04%, the soil microbial biomass and enzyme activities increased, and the soil quality improved obviously. The soil quality index (SQI) in the wetland was in the order of mudflat (0.194) < Suaeda salsa flat (0.233) < Imperata cylindrica flat (0.278) < Spartina alterniflora flat (0.446) < maize field (0.532) < cotton field (0.674) < soybean field (0.826), suggesting that positive vegetation succession would be an effective approach in improving soil quality.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the relationship between five single nucleotide polymorphism loci in the MGMT, XPA, XPD and XPG genes and the prevalence of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. METHODS: A case-control study of 73 lymphoma cases and 500 healthy controls was conducted and the Mass-ARRAY method was applied for detection of MGMT L84F, MGMT K178R, XPA TSS+62, XPD K751Q and XPG TSS+372. RESULTS: MGMT L84F (T allele) was associated with an increased risk of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (OR=2.085, 95%CI=1.069-4.068, P=0.029), mainly in B-cell lymphoma, of which the risk increased by 2.403-fold (OR=2.403, 95%CI=1.103-5.235, P=0.024). No statistically significance was found for MGMT K178R, XPA TSS+62, XPD K751Q and XPG TSS+372. CONCLUSION: Single nucleotide polymorphism in the MGMT gene may closely related to the occurrence of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, especially of B-cell subtype.

RESUMO

Soil samples under different salt marsh vegetations in Yancheng coastal wetland were collected, and their organic carbon (C) and total nitrogen (N) were determined, aimed to analyze the influence of salt marsh vegetation on the spatial distribution of soil carbon and nitrogen. The results showed that the organic C and total N contents in top soils varied from 1.71 to 7.92 g x kg(-1) and from 0.17 to 0.36 g x kg(-1), respectively, and there were significant differences among different vegetation zones. The top soils organic C and total N contents in vegetation zones were higher than those in mudflat without vegetation. In the soil profiles in vegetation zones, organic C and total N contents had a trend of decreasing with depth, but changed little below the depth of 15 cm. Soil organic C was significantly positively correlated with soil total N and C/N, but soil total N had no significant correlation with soil C/N.

RESUMO

Three recombinant inbred populations, Ning894037/Alondra, Wangshuibai/Alondra and Sumai3/Alondra, were analyzed for QTLs associated with Fusarium head blight resistance by interval mapping and composite interval mapping in this study. The result showed that the major QTLs were detected on the short arm of chromosome 3B of all three resistant parents using the data of FHB resistance evaluated in greenhouse or field. They were located in the interval of 5.0 cM between BARC133 and Xgwm493 in Ning894037, 11.5 cM between BARC147 and Xgwm493 in Wangshuibai, and 13.0 cM between Xgwm533a and Xgwm493 in Sumai3, explaining 42.8%, 15.1% and 10.6% of the phenotypic variance for Type II resistance (spread within the spike), respectively. Some of the SSR markers linking to the major QTLs tightly can be used directly in marker-assisted breeding to improve FHB resistance in wheat.
